Yes. Finally, I can make a new post. I am little annoyed I forgot several quotations, but c'est la vie.

Before I start, I want to reply to one of the posts on the last page.
quote:

whoever said a pen was stronger than a sword never encountered automatic weapons

Or maybe he has.[;)]

Anyway, onto the quotations:

quote:

Conservatives say if you do not give the rich more money they will lose their incentive to invest; as for the poor, they tell us they have lost all incentive because we have given them too much money.
George Carlin

quote:

You are not entitled to your opinion; you are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.
Harlan Ellison

quote:

People who practise freedom of expression are terrorising our grammatical way of life.
Bauvard

quote:

Grammar is the logic of speech, even as logic is the grammar of reason.
Richard Trench

^This quotation is my all-time favourite; it speaks to me on multiple levels.

quote:

Genius is rarity, not mastery.
L'Orange

quote:

All we ever see of stars are their old photographs.
Jon Osterman

The above quotation is not a profound observation by any means; however, it is so wonderfully poetic I cannot bear to remove it.

Brownie -> RE: The Official Quotes Thread (4/18/2011 22:21:58)

Quotes pop up everywhere now, it seems.

"C'est La Vie."
- French Saying.

"You see what you see, whereas I paint what I see and I only see what's really there, see?"
-The Picture Imp from Terry Pratchett's Colour Of Magic and The Light Fantastic.

"I was Just looking. With fire...And lightning...And reanimated chipmunks! And Racoons. On fire..."
-Richard from Looking for Group.

Well, I figured I'd post another batch of anime related quotes that I've gathered on my own (i.e. not from a chart, but just while watching saying "That's a good quote" and writing it down). These are more on the lighter side than my previous quotes. I even had the courtesy of saying in what anime these quotes are said.

quote:

“I always believe myself to be acting within reasonable boundaries of sanity.”

~Itsuki Koizumi, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
quote:

“This world is full of things that defy all common sense”

~Kyousuke Kosuka, My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute
quote:

“For us, women exist on the opposite shore. There’s a river wider and deeper than the ocean between men and women.”

~Ryoji Kaji, Neon Genesis Evangelion
quote:

“Things between man and woman are difficult to understand, because they’re not logical.”

~Ritsuko Akagi, Neon Genesis Evangelion
quote:

“No rice, no life.”

~Yui Hirasawa, K-on
quote:

“Call me what you will, but I’m taking your cake.”

~L, Death Note

Stray Cat -> RE: The Official Quotes Thread (4/19/2011 3:10:35)

Anime quotes it is, Exy! I've got a few quotes, some of them a bit pessimistic, but I think they're pretty relevant to life.

quote:

"...Are meals fun? ...Do you enjoy eating with others? ...Does it make you happy to have food cooked for you?
~Rei Ayanami, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance
quote:

"Without a flame to burn it, the wood will never release its true scent."
~The Medicine Seller, Mononoke
quote:

"You really do need money, don't you? Money, am I right? Why not just work a little harder? Do it right, and you can have anything you want."
~Masakaki, [C]: Control: The Money and Soul of Possibility
quote:

"...And on their deathbeds, they will finally realise. The life they lived was the real thing. People don't live provisional lives, nor do they die provisional deaths."
~Tonegawa, Kaiji
quote:

Is showing goodwill towards others really that scary? Are you afraid of messing up and being unable to fix it? No matter how painful, there's no choice but to repay them by as much as possible.
~Aiho Yomikawa, A Certain Magical Index II
quote:

"...The world isn't as bad as you think"
~Celty Sturluson, Durarara!!

quote:

Language forces us to perceive the world as man presents it to us.
Julia Penelope

quote:

All human knowledge takes the form of interpretation.
Walter Benjamin

quote:

Memory can change the shape of a room, it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They are just an interpretation, they are not a record, and they are irrelevant if you have the facts.
Leonard Shelby

quote:

Reality is a story the mind tells itself. An artificial structure conjured into being by the calcium ion exchange of a million synaptic firings. A truth so strange it can only be lied into existence. And our minds can lie. Never doubt it.
Doug Rattmann

quote:

What if the worst is true? What if there is no God, and you only go around once, and that is it? Well, you know, do you not want to be part of the experience? What the hell, it is not all a drag. And I am thinking to myself, jeez, I should stop ruining my life searching for answers I am never going to get and just enjoy it while it lasts.
Woody Allen

quote:

We all experience many freakish and unexpected events; you have to be open to suffering a little. The philosopher Schopenhauer talked about how out of the randomness, there is an apparent intention in the fate of an individual that can be glimpsed later on. When you are an old guy, you can look back, and maybe this rambling life has some through-line. Others can see it better sometimes, but when you glimpse it yourself, you see it more clearly than anyone.

Well, since Puella Magi Madoka Magica just ended I may as well post all the quotes I collected from that series. I don't necessarily agree with all of them, but I found them interesting enough to share.

Spoiler tags are for quotes that come from the final episode. Out of context I don't think they spoil anything.

quote:

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always end happily if you do the right thing. Actually, the more everyone tries to do what they think is right, the less happiness there is.

~Junko Kaname

~Homura Akemi
quote:

~Homura Akemi
quote:

quote:

Don’t forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. – As long as you remember her, you are not alone.

quote:

I heard this one tacked on to the end of the silliest episode of Criminal Minds I've ever seen. I don't know anything about the person who said it, but it rung true with me.

liamliam1234liam -> RE: The Official Quotes Thread (5/8/2011 19:04:26)

This has been bothering for a while:
quote:

quote:

If god did exist, it would not be necessary to invent him.

Blade - that's actually incorrect. Voltaire said, "If God were not real, men would find it necessary to invent Him."

Nope. The proper quotation is, "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him."
Nicholas, for future reference, make sure your corrections are actually accurate, especially if they do not even reflect the intended meaning ("it would be necessary" and "men would find it necessary" convey two radically different concepts). If a simple Google search can prove you wrong, you might want to rethink the use of your pedantry.

Anyway, time for some actual quotations.

quote:

And because, in all the Galaxy, they had found nothing more precious than Mind, they encouraged its dawning everywhere. They became farmers in the fields of stars; they sowed, and sometimes they reaped.
Sir Arthur Charles Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey)

quote:

We are all machines; it is merely a matter of degree. Whether we are based on carbon or on silicon makes no fundamental difference.
Doctor Sivasubramanian Chandrasegarampillai

quote:

Everyone has their own point of view; mine just happens to look over the gorgeous landscape of me being right.
quote:

If this is going to be a Christian nation that does not help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we have to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just do not want to do it.
Stephen Colbert

quote:

There are no uninteresting things, only uninterested people.
quote:

People wonder why the novel is the most popular form of literature; people wonder why it is read more than books of science or books of metaphysics. The reason is very simple: it is merely that the novel is more true than they are.
