PD -> Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 15:32:25)

It seems we're all confused about whether enhancements are really good for anything. Let me say this. Before we start, you'll need to be a good visualizer. So please put on your creativity hats so that we can begin.

First, let's start off with a normal battle. Let's imagine there are two people in a fight:

  • Both people are level 32.
  • Both have 80 Stat Modifiers from Weapons
  • Both have the same build, with the same equips

    Now you see here, both have no advantage over the other. Both have the SAME crit, deflect, block, first strike, stun, damage, and every other characteristic. HOWEVER, let's say one of those people were to add the maximum number of enhancements possible. Let's say.... 35 Enhancements to their weapons. Now one person has 115 Stat modifiers, while the other guy still has 80. In this case, because of enhancements, one of them is stronger than the other. Now let's give the OTHER guy 35 stat points as well, because he enhanced everything to the max. Now both of them have 115 Stat modifiers from weapons. Basically, because BOTH persons have enhanced their weapons, they have gained nothing, lost nothing, nor have any gained advantage over the other. The luck factor rates are still equal, as is everything else, proportionately. Basically, because both parties have thrown money, or credits (or in some cases, a combination of both) in order to enhance everything to the max, nothing has changed.

    Now, I'd need to say that because enhancements are available to everyone, this scenario is normally repeated every day, just for different people with different weapons with different builds with different classes. It's all one of the same really when you think about it. We're all victims of this. As I was about to say, because enhancements ARE available to everyone else, when more than 1 person enhances their items, you become a victim of this. Because this is a pvp game, power is in relation to everyone else, meaning you MUST consider everyone else rather than yourself. When you enhance items, it does make YOU individually stronger, but in the perspective of everyone else, you're still the same as before - Just INFLATED (OMG RE-OCCURING THEME ZOMG!!!!)

    Enhancements only make you stronger when one 1 person is able to do it in the case of a PvP game where you fight other people who contrive for power and influence. Because everyone else can, the only reason to enhance is not to get stronger, but to maintain your power, as everyone's caught in the myth that by enhancing your items, you become stronger. If this were a Single player game, enhancements really would make you stronger. But because you're fighting other people who get stronger as you do, you're not getting any advantage. At all.

    But if there really is an advantage to what enhancements do bring, it's the statistical advantage over people who cannot afford to enhance their items, therefore creating mass power gaps and adverse differences, which really... are the bane of communal unity. I'm certainly not trying to defame ED by saying the bad things about enhancements. Rather, I'm giving an insight to what people commonly believe is truth.

    I believe that if we actually learned the truth behind everything rather than try to come up with our own reasons and scapegoats, it'd be a lot easier to arrive at agreeable and negotiable conclusions that wouldn't serve to hurt us in the future.

    BTW Illuminator, if you're looking at this, the SOUP thanks you for providing it a pre-made scenario as shown in this post.

    Nice way of thinking about this.

    I always wondered why they would bother with enhances in the first place, since all it does is increase that crucial gap between the cap and 5 levels below it.

    IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:03:11)

    I believe enhancements are just fine the credit and varuim price just needs to drop a bit more thats all.

    PD -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:06:11)

    @IsaiahTheMage: I suppose you can explain how Inflation really does make things better. I'd personally like to see your defense on that subject matter...

    AQWPlayer -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:20:24)

    It would be nice to remove enhancements :P
    Varium players always get to enhance everything cause they always get tons of credits and just in case credits aren't enough, they got varium to enhance their items. But what about the others? Non variums have to work hard for weeks just to fully enhance 1 item, which then loses popularity because new, stronger weapons come out. How is this supposed to be fair?

    goldslayer1 -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:21:28)

    @aqwplayer
    anyone who enhances their items only with varium is a newb.

    Definitely lol...

    goldslayer1 -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:41:44)

    @aqwplayer
    a smart player would do 5-6 slots in credits, then the rest in varium.
    an item with 8 slots
    i enhance 6 with credits and 2 with varium
    in the end i spend 50k credits (i can get that back in a week)
    and 500 on the last 2 stats.
    if u bought it with all varium that8 slots are 1200 varium.
    i saved 700 varium doing this for all of my items.
    those 700 i can use it in the future for any items i get.

    another thing is making ur builds before u buy the items.
    this way u know if ur builds will be good or not, and ur able to see if the items are worth it.

    IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:42:07)

    @PD What infaltion? Nothing is wrong with enhancements they are super awesome. They make us all be able to get huge stat modifeirs and be much stronger.

    goldslayer1 -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:45:11)

    @isaia
    clearly u didn't read everything he said.

    well altho they may have the same power and be at the same lvl.
    the smart ones will actually use their stats right and not have any extra stats anywhere
    and thats what would make the big difference

    IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 16:56:32)

    ^I just skimmed threw.

    Mr. Black OP -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/13/2011 17:05:02)

    @above
    wut if it says "if u read this u will die"
    then wut lol
    OT: yup, at 1st when they were only on primaries they were ok, then they made them on guns and auxes right when they made stat diminishing (worst idea ever next to agility), so they basically made it that u needed enhancements to get the effectiveness that your build had b4

    ...Sonya... -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/14/2011 6:35:35)

    Just to let you notice in a nice little way.

    "Epic Duel Isnt made to make the game fair between varium/non variums,The team is obviously gonna give us payers an advantage over others.

    Opinion.

    ND Mallet -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/14/2011 8:01:57)

    While it is true that anyone can get enhancements since they made a credit version it doesn't mean that everyone has the resources to do so. Some will be short on credits or others will not have the varium to do it. Against a player with varium and credits to spare then enhancements are for keeping your power in level with them but there are those who can only get 20 or less slots enhanced so your 35 will be an advantage against them. Enhancements were more or less made to give more creativity to builds since before them you were stuck with whatever stats your weapons gave you.

    Silver Sky Magician -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/14/2011 8:15:21)

    Not necessarily, PD. Say there are two 5-focus tech mercs, both with the exact same builds, original stat modifiers and equipment. One puts his enhancements into tech, and the other into support. When they face off in battle, the theoretical sameness no longer exists.

    Your assumption only holds if both players a) follow the same train of thought or b) copied their build off another person. I would also like you to think outside your scenario, as it isn't that common. What is far more significant is the advantage (fully) enhanced players have against others because they have enhanced their items differently. And of course, those with less enhancements.

    On a side note, any further decrease in enhancement prices, though possibly unrealistic due to player backlash, would be very welcome.[:)]

    Remorse -> RE: Just a little something about enhancements to consider... (6/14/2011 11:50:08)

    Nice post PD and i agree, however you failed to mention the main reason why they did bring it in. The reason was to "aparently make wepons useful for longer" here is a quote I obtianed off cinderella
    quote:

    enhancements were one of the solutions we came up with for making weapons useful longer.
    (eg. i gussing they mean add them to rares occasionally but in a sence your still buying. and you cant say the wepons will be usful for longer when you still must maintain constant payment installments e.e)

    Having siad that I sill think enhacemnts should be reduced or removed because their are deffenitaly more suitable and ethical ways of making wepons useful for longer for the fellow players. EG. leveling wepons but thats a diffrent story.
