Lord Barrius -> Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 11:50:22)

Howdy. It seems some tempers were flaring last night while I was asleep. Let's set the record straight.

This is, as before, a transitional period and I think a lot of people are confused as to what I'm about and what I'm here for, which leads to a lot of policies being slapped down that I don't necessarily agree with. Last night, a policy was instated that forbid discussion of item buffing. The interesting thing is that I didn't find out about it until after I woken up and looked at the board myself. No one PMed me about it, no discussion was held about it. I found out by opening the forum and seeing a stream of locked threads and a new sticky, like everyone else. Needless to say, that policy is no longer in effect, the topic deleted, and my AKs have been told not to enforce it.

Now that does NOT, mind, have any bearing on the game staff's decision not to buff rare items. They still won't buff rare items. That is their decision to make, and I have no bearing on that. Just as the decision to pull this still-new policy is mine to make. I'm not going to forbid the discussion of item buffs, regardless of their rarity, though I obviously expect you all to post them in the proper location (Balance Suggestions, since item buffs are balance topics).

So let me reiterate: I'm here to "clean up" the board, not to forbid you from speaking your mind. And I'm not going to forbid you from speaking your mind. A lot of the discussion topics no longer permitted will be lifted once the board demonstrates that it can handle those discussions in a civil manner. You can still have your dissenting opinions, you can still express your desire to be heard and your complaints. I'm just expecting you to do it in a civil manner, calm and well-thought-out. And if you see policies of that sort introduced, please let me know, because that isn't my goal.

If you guys see policies being added that you don't agree with, you aren't forbidden from PMing me to discuss them. I may well agree with you. I'm only asking that you don't have that discussion in public. You've all seen how that turns out: people at each other's throats, flaming and trolling the place up. That's not what we're about here. Let's keep those discussions civil, and in private where they belong.

I'll let this run for a little bit, then we'll lock it up. I just want my stance on this topic known.

Wraith -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 11:54:58)

Err

Is buffing Gamma Bike speed not allowed to be discussed? No use in battle, but I would like a faster way of Transportation while proving that I was a paying customer in Gamma Phase.

Remorse -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 11:56:37)

Thats all well and good but how about discussions on how things should be Buffed/leveled? and also discussion on the amount things are buffed and leveled?

Calogero -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 11:58:16)

Quick Question about the Balance thread,
Is it possible to make it like in the MQ board.

1 Thread in which Threads can be made involving a certain Item/Class/etc
This would clean the Balance thread up while
making it easy to seperate 1 subject from another.

Dendavex -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:02:23)

Umm TBH why clean up the boards if their very constructive [&:]

ND Mallet -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:05:00)

I personally don't see much point in allowing people to suggest an item be buffed when the Devs stated it most likely won't be happening. And if a weapon does need buffing it would go better off in Balance Suggestions instead of having a separate thread for it. And a majority of threads asking for a buff to Founder Armor end in a flamewar anyways so you might want to at least keep discussions about that one item banned.

Calogero -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:06:47)

@ Dendavex

I don't really mean Clean up, I personaly thing it would be more Organized that way.
If you don't understand what I mean, please go to the MechQuest board - General Discussion - Balance
... Unless you aren't talking to me

Dendavex -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:07:33)

IM talking to Lord barrius not you andy

Chosen 0ne -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:14:32)

Lets buff gamma bike speed. 90% faster. :P lol.

Lord Barrius -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:14:54)

@Lord Sinastr/Remorse: Any sort of buff/nerf discussion goes to Balance Suggestions, regardless of what it is. A good rule of thumb is: if you can't manage to ask it without using buff or balance or nerf in the sentence (or trying way too hard NOT to use those words), it's safe to presume that it probably goes in that thread.

@andy123: Any changes to the Balance Suggestions policy will depend entirely on the needs of the game's balance team, once they have established themselves and what they want to do in the foreseeable future.

@The ND Mallet Guy: If you read my post entirely, I did state that any buff/nerf discussion belongs in Balance Suggestions, regardless of the game staff's policy on buffing or nerfing that type of item. I never said separate threads were okay. What I said was that you're not forbidden from discussing them, they just need to go to the right place.

@Dendavex: Because they're not very constructive right now. If they were, I wouldn't be here in the first place.

Calogero -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:18:29)

@ LB

I don't mean change the Balance Suggestions Policy
I mean like it being like the Mechquest Board, to make Balance suggestions more ' Organized '

1 thread in which The Balance thread rules are noted etc
In that 1 thread People can make threads involving certain items.
Threads of which the Subject allready exists could be deleted

It's more organized that way and easier to have a bigger view without
jumping from 1 subject to another.

ND Mallet -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:22:45)

@barrius Sorry I must've missed that part. I agree that the discussions should be allowed but a post just saying "Founder is UP it needs buffed" should be deleted on sight unless it includes constructive details on why it needs buffed. Note: "It's a symbol of Founders" or "Founders deserve it since they supported the game early" are not constructive reasons. Posting constructive reasons about balance problems has always been an issue that most forum members tend to ignore. It gets annoying for me to see "OMG, TLM is OPd!!!11!" without any reasoning behind it. I get no info on what builds are OPd and the Devs have no idea what is broken on them. I know TLMs are OPd but do I know which ones are? No. Do the Devs know what to fix on them? No.

button33 -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 12:27:29)

Lord Barrius: So lots of balance discussions. But may I ask you, why not just create another section, like the bugs section for balance discussions? This way, no balance discussions will be in the GD, and people can post ideas in the Balance section, which would also make the suggestions easier to read, as they are categorized by things such as weapons, skills, etc. This way we know what balance topics are what, and it would be more organized for the devs to read.

Lord Nub -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 13:18:23)

Very Very VERRRRYYY Nice! Best thing I've seen done by LB IMO!

There was absolutely no just cause for that to occur, and it's great to see your not just here to help back the players into a corner. Well done!

Basicball -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 15:40:17)

@first post:

I know you 'run' this forum(section), and i understand you are 'mad' about someone (WM) makng a new rule without you knowing about it
But then again, if they have a new policy about no buffing rares, there is no reason to discuss item buffs. and it must be very annoying to keep on seeing topics raise about it

so, i'll ask you reconsidder, or maybe restrict them to a singl topic like the balance topic, or maybe even the balance topic itself.

Lord Nub -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 15:48:54)

^
So this isn't the General Discussion area of EpicDuel? Darn I musta gotten lost....

No reason why peeps can't discuss things here. There's things that are discussed all the time that will never be in game but why should we not be allowed to discuss them? Also whose to say that in the years to come they don't amend this so called policy?

MirageD -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 16:10:15)

i for one am going to miss wiseman's posts....he gave great insight as to what is going on (and at least he plays the game)....and i agree with him....if the subject is closed...no need to discuss anymore....there are many more things that we, as a community need to address

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 17:45:44)

well thought out and civilised?

I'm sorry but what society is run by people whose ideas are well thought out and discussed in a civilised manner ?
I'm from England, a nation ridiculed for its civility and its government is like a screaming nursery [kindergarten lol]

I think that your asking way too much from people who just wanna discuss game issues on a gaming forum.
I understand that many people take it too far and need to be moderated [myself included] but to basically restrict any discussion on the
majority of relevant subjects and stuff us into a couple of convenient topics, followed by overmodding every post doesn't seem excessive?

Lord Barrius -> RE: Forum Policy 2 (Electric Boogaloo) (9/3/2011 18:15:51)

You must not have read the first post. That's okay, I'll summarize: The original policy was to delete those topics on sight, I have since changed it so that those topics are moved to Balance Suggestions instead of deleted on sight. I may be missing the part where I'm restricting discussion in that regard, so feel free to explain it to me in PM if you wish.

It's got little to do with the game staff's policy and more to do with the forum policy. As a general rule, I don't forbid discussion topics on the grounds that they are not likely to happen. That would be a very limited scope for a general game discussion board to have.

Locking now that people have had time to read this. I will be throwing up a thread to emphasize the game staff stance on this, but I repeat that those discussions will not be forbidden at this time.
