Jasondoom -> Tech mage str coming back? (9/11/2011 22:43:51)

I've been doing a couple of battles and i've seen some techmages using str builds. So i decided to tryr it and it seemed to workout pretty well. What do you think, are techmage str builds coming back?

edwardvulture -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/11/2011 22:54:32)

were they all different version or was it a chain of build copying?

AQWPlayer -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/11/2011 23:03:31)

It makes sense for strength mages to come back cause bludgeon can now be used with a sword :3

*Nova* -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/11/2011 23:35:23)

^
Well, that gives TMs back more variety since half of their tree was inaccessible without a Staff.

Death Gigas -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 8:21:18)

I have noticed this as well, but I haven't fought a strength Tech Mage in months. I look forward to fighting them soon.

Arcanis -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 8:50:21)

Quite fun build to use, especially with max bludgeon. Only down side is hard time vs support mages and smart cybers. But its worth to see when you bludgeon through hybrid for 60+ damage :P

Digital X -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 8:53:19)

Before this update i would have never even thought of making a STR TM, but now i have other ideas [:)] Not sure quite how well it work, but trial and error eh?

Arcanis -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 8:56:03)

110+ str,100+hp,p armor,decent dex,blast away! :P

Digital X -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 8:58:43)

Would an E armour not be better? As you can have more dex that way, as resistance is covered more, that's the way i've seen on almost all STR builds.

Ubear -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 9:06:08)

I definitely have to try this out [:)]

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 9:06:18)

@Digital X

There are a few advantages to having a P armour -less stats points can be invested in the defensive stats due to the different stat scaling of dex and tech.

But more significantly, majority of ED players *ahemtacticalmercsahem* seem to use physical attacks more than energy ones.
Mere speculation though.

Digital X -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 9:08:01)

I'll try a str TM when i'm home, str + deadly aim = very, very nice sidearm damage.. [;)]

Nebula -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 10:56:46)

I was using strength tech mage with bludgeon even before the evolved classes. Shame I'm stuck as a blood mage for the time being.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 11:09:33)

Ive purchased a few items to switch my tech mage over to strength when Im bored of my Juggernaut build [for 2v2]

I currently have Gamma bot, think it would be worth getting assault bot instead so I can put the points from technician into assimilate?
I''ll be using my usual malfunction setup, except deadly aim would be maxed instead of level 8.

TurkishIncubus -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 11:36:30)

Str TM doesnt work , TM is not made for str builds

1)deadly aim have supp requirement

2)Reroute is not a defensive skill

3) they haven't got a good % skill

4)malf doesnt increase connect chance and increase your block chance (unlike smoke)

if you do a str TM you will have 0 defense thats why its gonna be bad :P

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 12:14:52)

@Turkish: I don't they they are suggesting a pure strength build like mercs could use [thanks to hybrid armour] but having high
strength is definitely usable. I switch my build to 4 focus regularly with any extra points on strength and it is a lot of fun.

Nebula -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 12:14:50)

@Turkish I beg to differ. Strength Mage can be amazing if you have the slightest idea about how to use it unlike your good self.

Lord Nub -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 12:53:29)

^ Arguing is useless. Turk is right in the end but players WANT to believe they have some awesome build when in reality they don't.

Take a good look at your ratio and think again. Inflating yourself and exaggerating is only hurting yourself. The rest of us couldn't careless as your just another 1 in our win column.

wario the great -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 12:58:48)

str tm can be 'ok' but will never match up to 5 focus tm or support tm since gigh str leads to low defences and mages have no health return so it is pretty hard to get a good str build. The only str mage that ive seen who has actually been sucessful is 'Zinrius' but he has quit.

Matgon -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 13:19:44)

I remember a while back before the merger there was a str TM that used the beta weapons his build wasn't bad at all and it was based around bludgeon and deadly aim, forgot his name but his ego was quite big.

Nebula -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 13:33:00)

@Lord Nub Bro, I love your hypocrisy and overconfidence. Just sayin'.
Judging what you don't know the facts. So generic, man. So epic.
Being one of those twits who think they know everything when they don't, also cool.
Trying to act like I said something I didn't, also very respectable.

"The rest of you" >implying you're all overpowered Tactical Mercs who can't play this incredibly simple game properly so you copy each other.

Also it's "care less," not careless. Clearly someone didn't pay enough attention in school to learn the difference. Assuming you're old enough to go to school yet.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 14:07:38)

The name calling and uncalled bravado will not serve anyone on this forum. Best to speak to one another on pms and resolve the differences or just settle this within game.

In regard to Strength Mages, like with most strength builds, it is high risk. With Mages, the class does not have shadow arts, hybrid, bloodlust, maul, and frenzy to rely on to protect and move forward. Mage skills are based on backward compatibility, and their skills strengthen when utilizing reroute for greater success. Reroute takes turns to use for desired requirement for skills, so in-turn, this slows down strength builds. Strength is more successful with speed over duration. The longer the match goes, this favors the other player. Mages were designed to be a patient class, the new adjustment of skills just adds a tad of variety, but it is still a patient class.

Strength builds can be enjoyable, but it will gain lukewarm to fair results against various builds and classes. For Strength, Mages only have two skills based on this, and that is Deadly Aim and Bludgeon. Blood Mage class was designed for strength use, and will be better for results in competing.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 14:41:19)

@Jzaanu: malfunction and assimilation too.

most fights you open with malfunction but it doesn't do much damage with moderate strength, its 2nd turn when you really start doing the damage. But with higher strength
your malfunction will hit hard, your gun even harder after that, assimilation will also hit hard with or without malf and bludgeon gives you a much needed physical attack.

if you have gamma bot then you can use physical aux, energy staff and energy gun and that means you have 3 physical attacks [bludgeon] but if your stuck with assault
bot then you got a hard choice to make. either 2 physical attacks and make do, or gun needs to be physical because if you use physical staff assimilate is devalued.

so yes their are builds with decent strength that can work, just too many players play support tac merc and think that is the baseline for a good build and anything less
is garbage. that is NOT the baseline, until support and/or tactical mercs are balanced out, you really should be judging your build by how it does against everyone else
a lot more. if you have a long fights with support mercs and its really just the support that helps them over the finish line then I am happy with the build in that respect.

don't stifle your own creativity just because the ED Team are still working their way through all the balance issues.

Ubear -> RE: Tech mage str coming back? (9/12/2011 15:28:17)

I tried a STR tech mage. Didn't like it, it was absolutely terrible, mainly because I didn't really know how to use it and I only have a physical primary

Everyone has opinions on what can and should work or be successful, it is what makes this game very unique; variables. But, your statement I quoted, this is how the game will become more balanced. By trying new builds or different styles of play, the balance team can see how a true package of skills can succeed or fail. If as a class, everyone uses the same model builds, it is difficult for any team to balance with no point of reference to challenge.

Fabulous quote, and this should be taken into heart. I feel the Balance team is committed in giving the game variety, and enjoyment.
