Shadronica -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 15:56:51)

Though I am not a chatty person when I battle I have made some very good friends and met many wonderful people in ED.

Since I spent a good deal of time on my alt Shadist doing 2v2 and the battles take more time than 1v1, I regard my 2v2 friends as being very patient and special people that have managed to perservere with a system that is quirky and faulty.

My factions have been great too.

MirageD -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 16:01:44)

hi shad :D...great to hear from you :D

PivotalDisorder -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 16:05:13)

1: Killing tac mercs.
2: Humiliating tac mercs
3: critting tac mercs.

mmmhm I seem to have a common theme here, let me start over

1:killing 1 class more than the other 5 [lol just kidding]

1: finally realising that their are some really great people ingame, [unless they are tac merc] I just need to give them a chance.
2: the unpredictability. when the odds are stacked against you, sometimes miracles happen ;) [unless its vs 2 tac mercs]
3: being kill by non-variums [except tac mercs] is nice to see, non-vars can actually compete sometimes.
4: that everytime a butterfly flaps its wings, a tac merc dies, praise the butterfly, our only weapon against them.

Fay Beeee -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 16:07:01)

I have loved meeting the international community.

Most are very lovely people.
All are interesting.
World unity is here, off topic (pity the governments cannot learn a thing or two.) :)
I was a total noob when I first came. Then thanks to loads of people, i managed to up my game a little.

I am still a bit of a noob though as I like to wing it a bit and have fun.
But hey! Its a game, that is what it is for right?

Nice post.

MirageD -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 16:10:02)

fay is another person i'm grateful to have met ^^ and a great contributor to the community :)

Fay Beeee -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 16:14:37)

Thanks Miraged
Mutual admiration. :)

Practel -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 17:19:29)

ED rocks my socks. I love the game, the devs, the community, and basicly everything.
Im a strong supporter and ED is alive and will always be to me. ;)

PD -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 17:31:20)

psibertus: Just people people are tactical mercs does not mean they are inherently bad. That's like saying black people are mean because they're black.

And to everyone else, I'm still not seeing how we're ever going to get better when our foolish pride and over-exuberant desires are still around, and are constantly denied on a systematic and daily level.

I'm not saying people are inherently good, nor bad. There's obviously influences and causes that made us get in this pothole of trouble. If we look at the source of the problem, we look at the answers as well.

redxtra -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 17:39:04)

having burgers insted of fries with tac mercs XD lol (kinda old discussion topic)
cyber hunters(to me) are one of the most funnest class to use win or lose
draconic devastator (made my build 200% betta [:D])

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:10:21)

I am noticing a trend here of using ethnicity or race in people's posts as usage of analogies in different threads. Best to discontinue. One can be more accurate and considerate with their choices of examples to support their beliefs.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:11:03)

@PD: I never heard about black people being mean, is that really a racial stereotype ?

about tac mercs, I wasn't being entirely serious, its not like I did a giant nerd rage in my post. i tried to be funny.

but I do have something for you to think about when you play. keep an eye out for female level 33s and tell me, do you see more
female tac mercs than females of all the other classes combined ?

PD -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:17:32)

It's not a stereotype. I said like, which means it would be similar to say that IF it were true.

And JZannu, hate towards one class/player group(s) would be the most pure and direct form of circular-thought racism if translated in real life. The analogies would stop if people stopped hating a specific class(es) and/or group(s) of player(s)

And I don't really care about which female players play which classes. It's not like it matters anyways.

I too desire not to ruin the facade of positivity, but let's be real with the problems.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:25:06)

I disagree with your reply PD. A person's class in this game is more like their profession, affiliation or even hobby. I can easily think of a plethora of analogies to support your belief in regard to class discrimination, and you know you can do better too.

Wraith -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:28:36)

Honestly PD, you need to be more polite.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:29:40)

I have had a guy on my buddy list for over a year and hes an awesome guy so no matter what happens in ED i can always mess around with him

PD -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:32:30)

... And I'll be ignoring that opinion to my character, Sinastr.

Yes, I can come up with other analogies JZaanu, but to define better is arbitrary (mostly because our opinions of good are varied). Class Discrimination is the same thing as real life discrimination, just the cybernetic version pf the real life contemporary.

I also forgot to mention that by blaming the developers for the problems we suffer, it gives us a sense of arrogance because we commonly believe that, "if it's not my problem, then it's not my problem to fix it because it's not my responsibility". Because of this arrogance as a backdrop from the belief that nothing is our fault, it becomes acceptable (socially) to do nothing, and to complain about our woes. This becomes complacency, and then denial.

You don't fix anything by doing nothing. You fix things by fixing things. Not everyone holds this belief here, but I've been to Oz World 6 too many times to not see this view as commonly held in the in-game community. I'd jump into hot lava to attest to that.

Wraith -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:45:25)

^In my opinion your analogy about black people was pretty racist.

Whirlwindstorm2 -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 18:56:44)

Agreed with Sinastr.

@ PD If u believe hating towards a class is just as bad as in real life, why make another statement just as or if worse.

But continuing with the subject, things i like are :

1) I have met many wonderful ppl in ED, that are always willing to talk to me about anything. Also, i look up to them as they help me with builds, and encourage me to compete in a friendly way.

2) As for being in a faction, it helped me learn that teamwork is extremely important in the sense that if everyone tries their best, many things can be accomplished. Also being in a faction motivates me to do the very best i can.

revenn -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 19:06:22)

Hmm. I would like to talk about a good things, but all I see is decline. This game and community has potential. However, the staff refuses to put much needed fix's and additions in place.

On the other hand the community refuses to stay on them about unlocking this potential. I've noticed people band together on a topic here and there and make some great points. They begin to push in the right direction. Then another varium release throws them off. This time it's a pirate theme! Balance, Non-varium issues, the broken faction system, etc. The list goes on for miles. None of these things are important though because I might get a peg leg!

@Everyone crying about racism.

What PD said was in no way racist. The fact that this ''omg racism'' crap is still going on in the world is sad. In all honesty the world hasn't been racist towards black people for a very long time. So don't be so touchy about the subject. If he would have made a comparison about a white man, no one would have typed two letters. Oh and just a fyi, the jews and native americans had it much worse but I hear no complaints.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 19:07:53)

PD definitely wasn't being racist. I am a racist and that was just a bad analogy.

I already said my first post here was an attempt at humour, I over exaggerated my feeling towards player who play tac mercs. I have a 32 tac merc [var] and a 30 tac merc [non-var]
cause I felt like I couldn't really comment on how OP they are till I actually played them. I accept that it isn't the class that defines a person, but rather the persons actions but in every
game I've ever played online its always the same type of people who make the same choices and have the same attitude and in real life their isn't a chance in hell I would be friends
with them. they are obnoxious, power hungry and always, and I mean ALWAYS believe that using the latest OP/Bugged class actually makes them something special and a better player
if they beat you. its entirely possible they ARE a better player but how can you really tell when they always choose the OP setup.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: ED Community, Let's Talk About Good Things (9/13/2011 20:20:00)

Ravenn, who is everyone?

My post was in reference to using non-fitting analogy to support their post to the extreme. Your post is why PD's post was not the best, because it brings other elements not needed to be mentioned in regard to a "new" Class.

A more fitting analogy would be taking the easier road over working for one's victories.

And another analogy is saying this class is not strong anymore, just class change, and you will be better. "Why be weak, when you can choose to be strong"

Both are correct and quite polar. These analogies would fit better in PD's beliefs, and are very true. Classes are viewed differently from different perspectives. This can be positive and negative.

Being back on topic and respect the author's intents... What is unique about this community which is good is, we have the opportunity to be critical of many situations and have the opportunity to discuss them, and we have the opportunity to be appreciative /praise for very special accomplishments for our fellow peer/player.
