To be honest, scam victims have it coming. They're greedy and refuse to think. Scammers are all massive idiots and I fail to see how one would go about falling for a scam.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: The Fight Against Scammers (4/22/2012 18:18:56)

@Soda Pop Let me explain my reasoning behind how scamming works.

I have a feeling that scams become less and less effective as the target's age increases because as you age your ability to reason increases. So whenever some random stranger offers you something, in this case free money, you learn to be skeptical and refuse the offer or trick the scammer and report them to The Lawman. But if you are a child, which a percent of our community is because Artix Entertainment games are aimed at children*, you are lacking that rational thinking and when some random stranger offers you free money in return for something as simple as your Account information you think it is too good to be true and next thing you know your scammed.

I do know this is not always the case because I know some people get so fed up with losing because they are F2P and always will be F2P that when this offer comes they just jump at it and they are also scammed too. So Scammers are simply people who exploit others like the pyramid scams operators do to people it has happened and it pretty much always will happen. As soon as one style of scam fails they create a new one but sadly the free varium scam will most likely always work because there will be that feeling that people get about not being able to get varium and thus they will always loss to play off of.

*Based off of the fact that AQW got an E 10+ rating from the ESRB

the usual scam eppempt involving me goes:

- Hey, want varium?
° Sure :D (starts registering a new acc)
- Ok, give me your pass and login.
° Can't you just buy me a gift card and tell me the code? :s
- No, i need your pass.
° Ah ... but i don't know if i can trust you :l
- You can, i'm not a scammer or something!
° hmmm ... well, ok i guess ...
° my pass is (new accs pass) and my login (new accs login).

2-3 minutes later

- that's not your acc! lier!
° yes it is, it's my alt. he needs varium, not this acc (main) i have enough here.
- give me your pass...
° you know i recorded everything, and i'm going to report you, right?

Closes window

° lol, he scared off

"Hey Son/Daughter/Bro/Sis, want some free Varium because I'm your Family so you know I won't scam you?"
"No. It says "No one will buy you varium for free. You're just going to get scammed and lose your account. "
"Hey Mom/Dad, can you buy me some Varium Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?
"Uhhhh....[&:]"

Mr. Black OP -> RE: The Fight Against Scammers (4/23/2012 0:13:53)

@faybeee
That could be a problem, but maybe having a text being sent to your phone (optional at sign up) or being able to contact the help team if any of that happens. It would require your user name, password, original email (possibly), or a security question and it has to be with 10 miles of your city for it to be sent to your new email. Sure it won't completely stop scammers but with all the work it would take on both sides it would decrease it at least.
Losing your computer AND forgetting your email seems a bit idiotic though. If you forget your email I would just change it asap. I have 7 emails for different things and I remember near everything I have signed up for on all of them and my password.

Frost Snake -> RE: The Fight Against Scammers (4/23/2012 0:29:22)

I put up a note in my faction and theres about 30 people in it

JohnMenzies -> RE: The Fight Against Scammers (4/23/2012 16:13:54)

@Frost Snake

Just a friendly note: Factions can only hold up to 17 other players, 18 players if you include yourself.

You're Welcome.(In advance) [:D]

l Chop Suey l -> RE: The Fight Against Scammers (4/23/2012 21:24:54)

I think the reason why scammers are doing this is because all that scammers say is that they want varium! We live in a world where money is not free and we just have to accept the fact that scammers are just like viruses blocking your your path as an ED player!( that would be my definition of a scammer). Imagine a scammer watching your every move and trying to befriend you for just being a varium player. I would personally tell them to mind their own business or just basically report them. We must stop this corruption and form an Anti-scammer
Community lol if thats possible and create a friendly environment to all players. Wouldn't U Guys Agree???

Also, don't fall for any of the sites that promise free Varium from Titan or Artix for account info.
