skr33ch -> Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 15:44:43)

I wish to pose this question to all players of ED, not only players though, but moderators.

How, persay, are we, the playerbase, to offer solutions and help the overall game if we, in fact, are unable to spread the truth; nay the problems, that occur in ED. Without the ability to make them known to the general population?

Yours Humbly,
Skr33ch

Fay Beeee -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 15:52:05)

^skr33ch.

First Hi :)
There is a way to do it. But it has to be in the correct section/thread and done with respect. If you are angry, it is better to wait until you, calm done, think what you want to say. THEN do it. :)
I wish you luck. :) Respectfully of course.

Wootz -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 15:55:16)

Heyah Skreechy! :D

Well, we are unable. Or we don't try enough. Thats my opinion.

Lycus -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 16:50:54)

Opinions have always been welcome, and we've made that very clear all along, the thing that we don't like is the way some things are posted. The thing is, people keep posting things in a way that purely criticises the game, focuses on the negatives and posts many things that are purely personal opinion as if they are 'facts', because so many people cross the line that is between fair criticism and rude, obnoxious posts that just show absolutely no courtesy or respect what-so-ever, because of this, we delete those posts. Due to that players complain over and over that it isn't fair, opinions aren't listened to, and we just delete any that show them. Which has turned into a vicious circle, which is kind of amusing, because players just don't learn.

Let's be honest, some players have claimed themselves that 'flaming and being very aggressive is the only way to be listened to', where has that got them? They've ended up banned from the forums because they continued to post these kind of posts that were incredibly rude, showed a massive lack of respect and they just didn't listen to anyone else. Players keep being told that being completely negative, and not caring one bit about the feelings of others, including the Staff and Devs, will result in posts being deleted. Yet players still insist in posting them, getting them deleted, then complaining about it. If that's not working for you, then try actually listening to what we're telling you and you may find this vicious circle comes to an end.

I prime example of things is JZaanu, if you look at JZaanu, you may have noticed that quite a lot of her posts in Design Note topics and some other topics have not exactly been all lovely, great game, everything is brilliant - there is a tiny bit of that, but she almost always posts some criticism, tells us how things may be improved, what she would like to see in the future - she expresses her opinion. As you may have also noticed, her posts haven't been deleted, and there's one reason why: Because she understands the true value of constructive criticism.

She doesn't say how much he hates the game, how he hates the Devs, how everything 'sux', which for some weird reasons some people feel is the correct way of doing things, she instead simply says something like 'Loved this aspect of the release, I liked how you did *this*; I personally would prefer to see *this* in there though, and I think putting *this* in would certainly help also.' or she'll say 'I personally disagree with the way you did *this*, *this* and *this*, I think it would have been better if it included *this* and *this instead, it would have made it much more exciting. I see a lot of effort has been put into this release, and I appreciate that, thanks very much guys! I just think you could improve on what you've done, as said above.' - This is how you do it, this is how you become one of those people that we come on the forum and not only read their posts, and not delete them, but see it as a pleasure to read their posts and take note on the suggestions within. We don't expect you to do things just like JZaanu, but she's one example of how you get your posts listened to and not deleted.

Another thing people need to take on board is that if you want your opinions listened to, and you want us to take on what you say, you need to listen to us and take on what we say. There's some ideas that have been presented, we've explained why it's not possible, and that person then says it again and again and again, and sometimes even tries to rally support for their ideas. This shows a complete lack of respect for us, and do you really think we're going to listen completely to people who act like that? If we say something is impossible to implement, or would take such a long time it's not even a consideration, then that's the fact, there's nothing you can do about that, and there isn't anything we can do about that, arguing that fact, which many players do is just going to annoy us and it's pointless, because it just shows how rude they are, and it gets their posts deleted. If we come on and we see someone telling everyone things like they are facts when they're nothing but opinions, we then explain these things and say why they did not happen/why they will not happen, and they start flaming us like we're some kind of bad guy spoiling every ones fun. That is also a way to get posts deleted and to build up a bad reputation.

Here is a good example of the above: Some people have been complaining a lot and even threatening to quit the game over a petty issue of greed. 'I'm Beta, I'm Gamma, why should Delta get an armour?' - the funny thing is, that's the kind of argument I would expect to here from a 9 year old 'It's not fair'. The main answer to that though, since I feel in a way, it is a fair question, is this: In Beta the Beta Weapons were released, they were that phases special items. In Gamma, Gamma Bike and Bot released, they were that phases special items. In Delta, Delta Weapons were released, they were supposed to be this phases special items, but then Reki drew up a dope armour, and NightWraith just had to draw it up and release it. If in Gamma or Beta a player had made an armour as awesome as that, then I'm more than sure those phases would also have got an armour. Sadly they didn't and NightWraith never thought of it until Reki's suggestion.

We love everyone's opinions, it really does help us in making this game as good as it can be, but, opinions, as stated many times, need to be put in an acceptable manner. We don't mind if you don't love this game and you don't constantly post good things about it. We just want you to realise that just posting you hate things, that you don't like all these things etc. doesn't work and it doesn't help. You need to explain why, and/or tell us how you would suggest fixing it. If we say it isn't possible, or post a possible issue with it, then you listen to us, you don't just tell us we're wrong, you have to take on what we say, like we take on what you say 'I do accept what you're saying, but can't you get round that issue by doing *this*', or something of that nature. Posting things purely from greed and asking for ways purely for yourself also doesn't work, we care about the whole community, not just one single persons demands.

I hope everyone understands this and takes it on board, because I love opinions, and I want to see more of them, just posted in the correct manner! Thank you!

ND Mallet -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 16:51:08)

Like Fay said, there are better ways to improve the game rather than break every rule on the forums. People generally don't listen to rants like they do constructive criticism. For example, calmly explaining to your parents that your curfew needs to be longer because you're getting older is going to get you farther than cursing them out for not letting you stay out longer.

If you're talking about problems with moderation then you will need to take that up with higher ups because threads like that can end up in flames and will be viewed as targeting a mod. The problem I generally see is that people don't take the initiative to do something one on one with Staff and would rather hide behind the opinions of multiple people on the forums. If you want something changed, speak up for yourself and don't wait for others to join you.

Nexus... -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 17:38:24)

Hey Skr33ch.

To everyone else,

Rants suck, yes, but I believe Skr33ch is referring to the constructive posts that are shutdown because of the negative connotations within them. The general discussion is just that, its general. We should be able to talk about anything related to the game here, and if that means constructively pointing out balance issues, pricing problems etc. we should be allowed to do so. As it is right now, the general discussion has nothing general about it. As opposed to telling us to bury our feedback in threads that nobody will ever see, I think the general discussion should be allowed to have ANYTHING related to the game, criticism or otherwise, as long as it is not blatantly degrading the game and its developers (in a nonconstructive manner). What kinds of things do you see in the general discussion these days? Mostly design notes, suggestions which quickly get shut down, threads claiming not to be suggestions which really are, balance issues which get shutdown. I think the general discussion should be changed to "Positive Customer Feedback & Design Notes", because banishing our posts that criticize the game is pretty much saying "we think this game is perfect, we will do what we want to do, we will implement what we want to imlement, and anyone who thinks otherwise can go post somewhere other then where everyone will see it."

Right?

Shyteria -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 18:57:24)

^True that...

Lycus -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 19:23:39)

@Nexus: Skr33ch is actually mostly referring to his topic that just got deleted, not because of the lack of constructiveness, because he did write it well, but instead it was another topic that was a 'I'm going to leave and list everything I hate about the game post' which aren't allowed.

Despite that, I understand your points, and I do know what you mean. The issue is though, this section of the forum has been through so much issues with flaming and issues like that, to squeeze that all out, the rules have had to tighten a lot. Back in January, which I understand was 3 months ago, things got very out of hand here, resulting in a big post from Lord Barrius reminding everyone of forum courtesy and that rules are expected to be obeyed. This resulted in rules being tightened even more, and things have settled down since, but there are still quite a number of people who haven't learnt to obey them. As soon as the majority of them have, then the rules can be relaxed a bit more once again. For this you can only blame those who pushed the boundaries to the limit and broke many rules back when the rules were much more free and relaxed, and proved to us that we couldn't leave it like that.

As my wall of text says, we'll only delete posts if they flame another member or a member of staff in any shape or form, or make a snide comment about staff or another member. Any posts that touch any of the rules for this section or the Universal Rules will be removed, with the chance of a warning if needed. Rules are strict, I know, but it's up to everyone to prove we can loosen the chains a little, without having to worry you'll all became the same mess it was before. We're starting get somewhere now, where I'm happy to log on and read through all the DN posts, balance posts and other posts, without worrying about having to constantly be punishing rule breakers, deleting posts etc. because I don't enjoy that, and no other member of staff does either, it's just something we have to do, and I hope you understand that.

Stabilis -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 19:51:54)

Keeping the forum clean is really about keeping the respect at a norm but also to uphold the reputation of this corporation. If you think about it... it makes sense that deleting posts that are constructively negative benefits Artix Entertainment because there would less "repellent" for potential members.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 20:14:26)

The best way to simplify posts and expressing in regard to being constructive, objective and critical, is eliminating the negative emotion.

If one keeps it simple, the individuals who read will have a clear understanding of why you are writing. Simplicity doesn't mean amount of text, but writing with core meaning so it is understood.

Writing aggressively; these posts are called emotional igniters.

If these igniter posts are written, many things could happen.

1) to magically show the light of their wrong doing, and now they beg for your forgiveness ( works great in films, movies, and scripts but in real life situations not very successful)
2) to hurt me, I hurt you in return. The slang term flame is quite suitable here, for fire (negative emotion) spreads very easily, and as a defensive rebuttal to this igniter, one returns with flame.
3) If igniter is noticed, it will be doused. Eliminated posts, walking out of the room or ignoring the ignited person. The best tool in dealing with emotional aggressive thoughts.

So when you write, put thought in quality substance beyond emotion. You will be heard, and it will be noted for continued evolving of this living game.

Writing and expressing is a powerful tool and art. If one knows how to use it properly and respectfully, it will take you very far.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 20:15:22)

@Lycus you managed to confuse me very much earlier but that is all good now that I can be 100% positive JZ is a woman.

This is a topic I feel the need to chime in my little motto for the difference between complaining and constructive criticism.
The only difference between a complaint and offering criticism is the word because, if you can explain why you do not agree with sometime in a non-inflammatory manor you have gone from complaining about a feature to offering criticism that the Dev's may be able to use.

Ashari -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 21:12:56)

@Nexus...: We try not to shut down threads simply because they were negative. The problem is that these are the type of threads that get so out of hand in terms of replies and posts. In that case, it has to shut down in order to prevent more people from getting themselves in trouble, but we try to avoid locking or deleting legitimate threads whenever necessary.

All the threads we ask you to use - Suggestions threads, the Balance Discussions thread, Bugs threads - are threads that are regularly checked by the staff. We know the forum format isn't always adequate so there are a lot of changes in the works in how you can get us good feedback. You may have noticed the EpicDuel Suggestions forum is being changed to allow individual threads for each suggestion. We are also planning a balance subsection that will allow individual threads for each balance issue.

The new formats will definitely give you some more freedom in expressing your suggestions or ideas, but it's important to stay calm, objective and clear in your posts. I've seen a lot of anger come out confusion. Sometimes a short & sweet post is all that's needed. :)

Shadronica -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 21:21:46)

Well to be frankly honest, as I always am, *eye roll* I haven't seen a decent topic in this forum for a long time now.

In fact the forum seems totally bereft of people even posting.

I could shoot a gun up and down the forum street and not even hit anyone. Its eerie. I was starting to wonder if there is another place where the players are having discussions away from the "goody two shoes" display we are having here.

I certainly don't like purely flaming or trolling posts either so don't get me wrong there.

So glad to see you edited your post Lycus. I tend to overlook those long chastisements. Oops I thought you edited it lol silly me.

Oh and btw it was basically only one person that caused that rucus back in January but the admin themselves were responsible for most of that when they introduced the war and rewarded everyone for faction hopping without due care and consideration for faction founders. I am yet to hear an apology for their oversight.

The Joker X -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/28/2012 22:09:26)

@Shadronica Yes, I agree with your post 100%. I haven't seen a decent topic in this forum for many months now. I'm wondering where all the real discussions are being held... lol. These forums have gotten so strict that it's just bland and boring. No creativity or criticism is allowed here anymore, causing many, along with myself to not want to post anymore. Ahh the good old days in the old ED forums. Oh well, I hope these forums can be revived someday.

Shadronica -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/29/2012 0:17:38)

@ Joker X. The old EDF was wiped from the face of existence. Was such a shame that it was viewed so harshly that they wanted to wipe it from ED's history. Most sad.

I am an Australian and it is a customary way of life here to view things with a sense of humor. However, I see that mostly the rest of the world seems to have lost theirs.

Humor is important for the soul ... without a laugh then life is not worth living.

Stabilis -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/29/2012 0:24:23)

I appreciate some authority figures in our lives to aid us in promoting security, but as soon their power corrupts or they go into an overdrive, I mainly think about forms of rebellion. Tolerance, acceptance, and understanding. 3 of my most cherished values.

Shadronica -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/29/2012 1:11:01)

That is nice Depressed Void. However, tolerating and accepting authority that has become totalitarian or corrupt is not such a brilliant idea.

We also have a saying here in Australia that goes ... keep the *bleeps* honest.

While Australians may be good humored they will also not be pushed around easily. Did you know that the Australian SAS is one of the worlds most elite forces? Very highly sought out for very difficult situations.

Zeoth -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/29/2012 2:00:57)

I agree with many of the posts here. But it seems to me this is just a discussion of forum policy(that's just me). What really bothers me is that the AKs or parts of the balance team post here, BUT they don't even post in the balance thread. It seems they only post there when they deem it needed or worth their time. The air of attitude around this forum is just bland bland bland. It's ridiculously strict here now. I'll admit it's MUCH better trolling and flaming wise since LB implemented his new policy but at the cost of other frequent and veteran forumites. And to Lycud who says that flaming is the only way were heard, it's cuz the mods and AKs who make it seem so. People flame cuz THAT is how we grab attention. When we post lightly it seems were ignored. Even a small positive post helps us reinforces the fact were heard.

Stabilis -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/29/2012 10:45:28)

@Shadronica,

Did I say that we should roll over for any authority? Sorry if my sentence structure had caused my message to say that, what I meant was that the authorities would have to use deeper levels of tolerance and the sort.

For example:

I was on youtube and saw a racy video about a squad of some Southern American lighter-skinned cops, subdue, hold down, and gang beat the crap out of some darker-skinned male who was powerless to do anything. I should not post the video here but if you would mind examining it I would certainly send you the link over PM.

Anyways, bottom line, regardless of what the suspected did, or his identity, the redneck cops went against their code "do not use physical aggression unless the suspected is violently resisting". Out of the hatred between past lifestyles, and the thrill of destruction, the authority figures commited a wrongdoing that was clear to the law enforcement judicial figures, and left the cops with a suspension.

Nowhere in the video did they stop, slow down, or even acknowledge the victim who was clearly a small man. Where is the tolerance, the acceptance, or the understanding there?

Epic Pwnser -> RE: Progress Slowed (4/29/2012 11:02:47)

I think progress has slowed, not much as changed majorly in-game since 2 months. But that's because they have to change many aspects of the game, mostly on the paying side of the spectrum. And this is a very high costing game $50 for a lick of 10k varium and other special bonuses with the new delta armor.
Juggernaut battles are still fun, and I would very much like to set aside part of summer to experience Epicduel as it was basically created at its inception.
The PvP fun competitive format
Players like me will pop in once every week to see what's up. I have of a life choice to not play as much, so I want to wish Epicduel well and continue with their work.
