Nexus... -> Grenades in PVP: Discussion (7/17/2012 20:51:08)

1) Discuss keeping grenades in the game after the war to be used in PVP -- Grenades were on the "Coming Soon" list during beta, far before the war mechanic had even been invented.

-Discuss the functions and impact grenades would have on PVP gameplay
-Discuss the types of grenades you would like to see
-Discuss the pricing of the grenades (Personally I think they should be available either a varium or credit based consumer)
-Discuss the availability and uses for grenades ("What now STR BM, your fireball just backfired b****")

2) War bombs are currently ONLY available for Varium, while in a discussion only a few days before the release it was made very clear to me they would be available for either CREDITS OR VARIUM. What happened?

-Discuss whether or not there should be competitively priced credit grenades that have the same function as the current varium ones
-Discuss why they said there would be both credit and Varium version, and why we have yet to see the credit counterparts
-Discuss what effect Varium-only grenades have on this war

Well, grenades used in PvP last year were scrapped, and the coding turned to robots. I think this was due to the imbalance or something like that.

Nexus... -> RE: Grenades & The War: Discussion (7/17/2012 20:54:44)

I believe skill perks were scrapped for Robots, could be wrong.

Nope. I remember titan telling us that the coding was turning into robots.

For the second part, I can't give you an answer, but don't believe everything you see on the developer server. That server contains stuff that is different than the 4 regular servers, and is used for testing. Because the testers need access to stuff, the devs just randomly slap a price on it so that the testers can get it easily, and not have to fight for hours before they get a grenade.

Nexus... -> RE: Grenades & The War: Discussion (7/17/2012 21:03:00)

I know that Titan said he recycled code, I remember that, but I think he said he recycled code from the skill perk mechanic, not the grenade mechanic. As for the second part, there was discussion in a thread that has since been deleted about whether or not bombs would be available for both credits and varium. A moderator was adamant that the grenades would be available for either credits or varium.

EDIT:

quote:

We experimented with grenades in the battle engine and found that they were either not useful or seriously broke the game's balance, however, we were able to use recycle some of that code and combine it with our skill perk concept to produce: (Robots)

Seems you were correct about grenades, and now I see what happened to skill perks. So, now that balance is no concern (as it as has all gone to sh** anyway), can we give grenades another shot? I could see them being a fun tactical advantage vs specific builds...

I believe this thread has great potential as it is not a suggestion but discussing the possibility of a great idea. I love the idea and these grenades if to be put in PvP theb they must be made for credits and varium alike.

PS: I like this thread so please don't turn it into a suggestion. Also change the title of this thread to grenades in PvP not and the war or it will be locked.

Drianx -> RE: Grenades & The War: Discussion (7/19/2012 6:41:43)

Implementing grenades in PvP would be great. Not for the damage they directly inflict therefore, but for the tactical effect. They should be both droppable and purchaseable.

I also think current grenades (Poison and Stun) should be removed from skill trees and added to equippable items list - and also Venom Strike should be removed. They eat up too many skill points and energy for their uselessness.

Nexus... -> RE: Grenades & The War: Discussion (7/19/2012 6:52:39)

Agree, Drianx. The effect of grenades are what really intrigue me, not the damage. Leaving skills for damage output, and grenades for a nice tactical advantage, would be a good way to balance a build. Pretty much lifting the entire grenade mechanic less the damage, and dropping it into PVP would make for new and strategic addition to gameplay. The possibilities are endless; if implemented correctly, it could solve the entire balance issue that at hand.

Would be great in 2vs2 to improve tactics; like a grenade which improves your partner's strength while costing you health. I agree that they should all cost credits, and come at a low price, but knowing Epicduel, they would certainly cost varium; probably like 100 varium each judging the prices of bombs...

Practel -> RE: Grenades & The War: Discussion (7/19/2012 9:34:01)

I'd like to point out in this thread that every grenade currently available for the war is a war drop. Therefor, you can battle regularly and end up getting the bombs for free.

Clavier -> RE: Grenades & The War: Discussion (7/19/2012 11:19:59)

Grenades in PVP... Not bad I guess, but make it credits only?

rej -> RE: Grenades in PVP: Discussion (7/19/2012 11:58:38)

Hopefully the grenades designed for the war will never be usable in real battles. (Otherwise... It's hammer time!)

The idea of a powerful ability that can only be purchased through varium nauseates me when I think of the effects that such an item would have in real pvp battles.
@Practel: You do realize that the war will not last forever, right?

Nexus... -> RE: Grenades in PVP: Discussion (7/19/2012 20:34:42)

@Practel

Drops are purely luck. I could get 2 bombs over the span of a couple battles, or none over the course of a year. However, purchasing bombs using Varium involves no luck whatsoever. This gives an advantage to those who have Varium, as they are able to mass quantity much faster than someone who doesn't. If the bombs were made available for Credits OR Varium (separate entities -- as you originally specified), this issue would be solved, because those with credits would have a reliable way to amass quantity as well.

@Rej
Honestly, I would hope that the grenades did little to no damage at all. Ideally they would even cost some energy to use (5-10 energy per grenade depending on its function). Where robots are more of a damage/defense oriented mechanic, grenades would solely provide a tactical advantage at the cost of some mana and a turn.
