Westwycke -> RE: Duel Que Filter (8/24/2012 14:28:12)

I do not support this. The problem is that you are only looking at it from one side, yours. If you decide you can't win against players 2 or more levels above you, you turn on the filter and go into the queue. The problem is that when a lot of players begin using this, you find you can't get battles started. You are not allowing the server to match you with anybody more than 1 level above you because you are filtering them out -- AND you can't get fights with anyone more than 1 level below you because those people are filtering you out. If you narrow the matching window too much, battles don't start regularly. Of course, this isn't a problem if the filtering feature isn't used by a significant portion of the players. But if it is not going to be used by the general populace, then we really don't need it. The math behind my argument: Max 1000 player per server. 35 possible levels. This comes to about 30 players per level. Some levels have more, and some have even less. If you restrict to only 1 level up or down, you have a max of around 90 eligible players to match with. Of those 90 players, how many are going into the queue? We have three queues, plus NPC farming, and misc.(checking their faction, challenging, exploring, or just plain AFK). Guessing at 1/3 1v1, 1/3 2v2, and 1/3 jugg/misc. we are now down to only about 30 eligible players. How many of those are currently in battle and not in the que? probably most of them, since battles take longer to do than wait for. So of the 30 eligible, maybe 24 of them are already in battle. This is getting to be a very small pool. Now lets think of what happens when the server only has 800 players, or maybe 600 or even less. Given the various choices available to the players, and the wide range of levels from top to bottom, the 5 level window is necessary to ensure that battles start regularly without long waits.
