Arthur -> (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 6:32:58)

Hello there, fellow L&L-ers, Arthur Dragonlord here, back for sometime after my exams.

So, just the other day, I felt like I wanted to write a story after my exams had ended seeing as I was getting rusty from not writing all this while. At the same time, I thought, why not do a collaboration? I have done a few in the past, but never for what I now have in mind. So I PMed a fellow Dragonlord to ask whether he was interested, and guess what? He was.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I, Arthur Dragonlord, the Shining Dragonlord of these forums am doing a collaboration with the Shadow Scholar of the L&L, Dwelling Dragonlord.

So, now, let me do the honors.

This thread will be to work on our story, the title of which has not been decided as of yet. While I have talked with Dwelling about the basic concept, I eagerly(and patiently) his inputs as well.

We shall we working in an organized manner working on one stuff at a time before we get down to execution phase, that is, typing/penning down this epic.

So, to start, Dwelling, what stage would you suggest we start with? (Characters, plot, setting, locations, etc.)

Uhh...and, seeing as you are an AK, I believe you have greater access to this post than I do. (You have the Shadow Sight, right? Right?)

If you feel there's something lacking in this post that I haven't mentioned or included, please feel free.

Let's go then!

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 6:53:10)

I think it'd be best if we started with the setting and our characters.

I have been thinking of a character that is a mercenary, a ranger/bountyhunter-type of sorts. Possessing basic hunter skills such as tracking, skinning animals and boiling meat. Ethics are of no concern to this character, only payment is.

For the setting, I think it'd be more interesting if we are in a world that is dealing with an economical crisis (oooh, how creative). In any case, poverty is a big issue. Tales of riches are all the sweeter because of it. The greed of the rich is self-explanatory and several wealthy families will be financing campaigns to become even more wealthier and powerful.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 9:24:51)

Hmm...

I was thinking of a cross between a Wanderer and a Scribe who writes books. He is in this just for the adventure and the knowledge. However, he has his own terrible secret.

As for the setting, yes, the inclusion of an economical crisis suits the continent's chaotic atmosphere just fine. However, I was thinking of a more specific chaos, like rebellion by a race of creatures throughout the continent. Uprising of sorts.

What do you think?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 9:27:15)

Who are these creatures rebelling against? Are they sapient?

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 11:17:13)

They are rebelling against all who exist there. Humans I mean. The cause is nothing too particular, these creatures have recently been found to possess something that will allow these bounty hunters and poachers to get rich.

How?

Those lecherous rich people that are slowly rising in this continent.

I had thought out that these creatures would be called Danavas (*sigh* yes, demons, so unoriginal) They talk, think and are charged with this mineral that is also the source of their tremendous strength and magical potential.

You can be onto one when we start writing.

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 11:55:42)

How about this?

The Davanas are or better said were slaves to the ruling class of the city, however the ruling class became lax and granted their slaves more and more freedom until one day they came to hold the great artefact (made out of jewels worth the world's entire treasury) which the ruling class used to control them. While the previous rulers (now dead) were content with ruling just their city in luxury, the Davanas have awakened an ancient dormant craving for war and dominion.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 12:04:13)

Danavas, Dwelling.

Hmm...

Yes, that way, we could integrate the Danavas even better into the story. Hmm...Perhaps, even into my character's "dark" secret.

But, how do you think we can integrate them into the Alverlance story?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 12:20:59)

With minerals, I assume you mean metal correct?

Well, that's easy. With the extreme wealth of Alverlance, the locals began to believe metal was beneath them. Instead, they used the "lesser" material on their slaves/subjects.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 12:34:19)

But you do know that Alverlance is a city in mist, both the physical, and the mist in minds. How will we address the problem then? Perhaps, these Danavas could be traced back to somewhere around Alverlance. But, that still doesn't solve our problem considering that the location of Alverlance was known only by the scribe who wrote a whole trilogy on it.

And thats where I could have my character come in since he's intended to be a wandering scribe.

So I believe we both have some beginning idea set for our Original Characters?

But enough about my ideas.

We need to address the problem at hand with some more specifications. Dwelling, do you have any proper nouns scaped out in your mind because I am curious to know what you have building up there.

I shall keep thinking of this dilemma that we have landed upon, this...Alverlance anonymity.

Oh, and do you think Alverlance is a suitable title?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 13:53:03)

I do not recall you ever mentioned to me that Averlance was physically engulfed in mist.

Does this metal empowering the Danavas rust?

As for the name. How did it come to you? What's the connection to this city?

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 14:40:05)

I'll reword that. Alverlance is undiscovered...as of now. The Great Alverlance Scramble of the current era is to find it out. People are in it for a variety of reasons. Some money, some riches, some knowledge, like my character and others, just for the fun of it.

As for the metal on the Danavas, it's precious and invaluable just for the reason that it does not rust or wear. But, with use, it will diminish. Think of it as Prismere. Speaking on which, any suggestions as to the metal's name?

And lastly, Alverlance, AS DESCRIBED BY THE SCRIBE was a city from where originated the first Danavas, wise and bold, the first among them, King Balvigor, or as he was called in the human tongue, King Alverlance built this beautiful city out of mere ruins. Sadly enough, a rift opened up in the Danava comnunity over the hunger for power and dominion. And so, rival sects called the Ancient Danavas and the newly formed Dread Danavas were formed. With war and age, Alverlance the City was deteriorating until one day, suddenly, the Ancients had disappeared and the Dread Danavas had spread out across the continent.
What had happened?
Don't the travellers want to know?
And so, for this hunger for knowledge, we scribes set out to search for it.

So there, has this short history managed to leave a mark on you. Does Alverlance deserve to be a title?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 14:56:26)

Promethenium? Bionicium?

I don't see why not then.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 15:03:12)

I was hoping for something a bit more medieval.

When I glanced upon Bionicium, the first thing that flashed on my mind..."Bioshock"...

I believe there's no need to stick with the elemental stereotypes when naming new minerals. Thats Borderlands stuff.

Promethenica, or Beonicium, just for more of that medieval feel?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 15:20:57)

Promethenica sounds better to me.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 15:28:33)

Promethenica it is then. A mineral that naturally grows inside the Danavas and then sprouts outside their hides. Infact, their whole bodies are laced with it. As stated before, it serves as a tremendously strong source of Magical Power and Energy.

Would you like a set bio template or would you make one on your own?

I can make a template up if you feel you don't have the time or are not feeling up to it.

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/3/2012 17:43:42)

Something like this?

Name:
Diet:
Habitat:
Life expectancy:
Appearance:

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/4/2012 4:48:27)

Well, I meant more for the characters. But hey, you just gave me a great idea.

Do you have a gauntlet of magical creatures that you would like to incorporate into the continent of ______________?

If so, that bio you have come up with can be slightly modified and used.

Let's see, here's what I have come up with on a bio template:

Basic Information Section-
Name:
Age:
Gender:

Appearance:(Includes hair color, eye color, complexion and the like)
Clothing:
Height:
Weight:

Advanced Information Section-

Profession:
Professional Aliases(Optional):
Profession Description(What it requires you to do?):
Professional Accolades:(If Any)

Belongings(If Any):
Weapons:(Please Describe)

Any Notable Personal Traits:(How do I know I am talking to the right person?)
Secrets(If Any):
History:

Miscellaneous Information Section-

Likes:
Dislikes:

Signature Quote/Quotes:(If Any)

Notes:

So there.You can tweak and add as you want. That's the most amount of detail that I could come up with.

I do hope it's not a bother.
Let's start work on our characters, shall we?

Oh, and shall I strike through the "Setting" Phase? Or is there something you wish to add?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/4/2012 14:50:05)

For the setting do we have this tropical climate or are we closer to the typical western forests? I may have to adjust my character based on that.

Basic Information Section-
Name:
Age:34
Gender:
Appearance:(Includes hair color, eye color, complexion and the like)
Clothing: Brown leather armour, a cloak made out of the skins of foxes when travelling through cold environments.
Height: 1,7 metres
Weight: 80 kilograms

Advanced Information Section-

Profession: Bounty hunter/Ranger
Professional Aliases(Optional): The chickenfetcher
Profession Description(What it requires you to do?): Collecting payments for killing/bringing in targets./Surviving in the wilderness.
Professional Accolades:(If Any) -

Belongings(If Any): Clothes, some animal skins and meat ranging from a wide variety.
Weapons:(Please Describe) A longbow to hunt game and daggers to skin prey.
Magical Items/Runes/Spell Books/Etc. (If Any): Except for a simple heat spell for thawing and or boiling water, none.

Personal Information Section-

Personality: Gruff, similair to an animal with the mentality of the survival of the fittest.
Any Past Incidents: Raised in a tough environment, hunting was a means of income and this extended itself to humans after finding wanted notes in an inn.
Any Notable Personal Traits:
Secrets(If Any): -
History: Born and raised in a village on the slope of a mountain in the north, the predators were plenty. There was livestock and there were hunters, you were one or the other. Smart people chose to become hunters, but you must constantly prove yourself to be hunter.

The chickenfetcher is a mockery, people who use this nickname often find themselves to be chickens though. The nickname stems from the fact that the other bountyhunters didn't take this ranger seriously at first. While most have been convinced, the name lingers on with sometimes lethal consequences.

Miscellaneous Information Section-

Likes: The job (the hunt that is) and payment.
Dislikes: Game that makes things difficult after being captured and parting with gold.

Signature Quote/Quotes:(If Any) "I took the fool's limbs and cuffed them with his own muscles, just a double precaution."

Notes: Due to disliking to part with gold, inn visits are rare and only used to get closer to game.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/5/2012 4:25:29)

It's more of one part of a massive continent, the rest of which will only be mentioned but not shown in the story. It has mountain ranges to the North and East, sea to the West and plains to the South side stretching endlessly into the rest of the continent. The center of the concerned map is inhabited by 2 dense forests separated by a plain grassland. Alverlance is rumored to be to the extreme east somewhere around the mountain ranges which has not been mapped yet by cartographers. So there, you have it. I have decided that our country will be called Orvestraal. How does it sound??

Also, I believe since we have already started on maps, why not start on the various location names and cities. I have thought out that the capital would be called Vorfather. Here's an account of it.

From Head Scribe Lydisa's Book, "An Account of Cities":

Page 20/9, 5th paragraph.

"And at last, I beheld the immensely vast city right before my very eyes. However, what I saw saddened me to the deepest depths of my heart. Never had I seen something so terrible, so dark and so drab in all of my journeys up till now. The City of Vorfather was an industry. There were towering stone chimneys, all belching black smoke that dominated all of the skies immediately above the capital city making it look as if a storm was at hand. Sunlight had no reach here, not even the faintest ray could make its presence known within the towering steel walls that made up the city's boundaries. Soldiers marched everywhere around me as I made my way to the Emperor's Fortress located right at the middle of this massive city that could be seen from miles away on account of the signature black smoke that blanketed its skies. Merchants were scarce, and civilians, even more so. Men clad in iron armors with the Tyrant's Fangs insignia on their breastplates moved past me, they held in their arms spears, halberds, blades and bows. This was the City of Vorfather, the capital of Orvestraal, known for its glory and hospitality. Lies...! All lies...!

Vorfather was not a city.

It was Black Hell."

So there.

Do you have a list of cities, villages and outposts that you would like to incorporate the varied landscape of Orvestraal. Oh, and by the way, as I said, Vorfather is located right at the center of the country, between the two massive forests.

I shall now start work on my bio.

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/5/2012 6:50:06)

I think the City of Vorfather would make more sense to be founded in the "Heartforest" named so after the fact it was located in the middle of the country. The industry of the City of Vorfather required wood though, and thus they cut down trees quickly till the forest and thereby "the nation's heart" was split in two.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/5/2012 7:01:57)

That's brilliant thinking.

And so the forest will be called Heartforest.

Hmm... so that's half the stuff taken care of. Now we just need location names and the rest we can make up as we go.
How do you suggest we start?

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/5/2012 7:22:31)

A general prologue with an introduction of the legend of Alverlance. This can either be done by using the people who have taken interest in it or perhaps your character (scribe) can read/ponder about it when we get introduced to the character.

Wolf Fang, a city to the north which is a meeting place for several of its "fangs" (villages up in the northern mountains). It is renowned for supplying the bulk of the empire's legions. These hardened men and women from the north are ruthless.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/5/2012 13:03:40)

Yes, I'll do that. And... I'll be using Docs, so... you'll need to PM me your E-Mail so that I may grant you access as well.

Also, I've drawn up a complete map of Orvestraal with numerous villages, few cities(Wolf Fang included), outposts and merchant posts clearly marked on it. It took me a full one hour to draw and outline it. However, I've kept some places empty and the whole Eastern Range as well. I would like you to fill that area with your cities, villages and outposts. So do come up with more.

I'll show you the map tomorrow.

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/6/2012 6:43:40)

There's also an option where only those who have the link can view the document.

I'm thinking of some towns that sell souvenirs and other services to people who are questing for the city of Alverlance.

The region is called Alverlance-west by some, others call it "The end of the road". Probably because the mountains start there and only the most skilled (or determined) parties go beyond that place.

Cliffoot is the town with the best filled inns and graveyards of the country, here those who lack the courage stop and those with courage but lacking skill return. The graveyards are the best investment to be had and the families who own them, own the town. As such, these families are one of the few who don't want Alverlance found as it'd mean the end of their reign and income.

Arthur -> RE: (Collaboration) ~A Twin Dragonlords Venture~ (10/6/2012 10:22:22)

Ah. A fairly unique concept. I see the connection behind the graveyards and rich people, oh I do.

I shall add this to the map. And then I'll scan and upload it. You'll see, its big and detailed. However, the names of the locations, hand-written as they are may seem slightly illegible.

But that's why I am here.

And also, I shall start work on the prologue of our story. Seeing as I haven't finished with my character concept yet, I shall just provide an outward appearance of him.
