The Incredible Hulk -> Deleting Names (1/3/2013 8:16:11)

You know when you want a name really bad.....
Like super bad.....
But its already been taken....

Couldn't we gamble on the name that we want
I know this would effect the game much because of the f2p players but couldn't we take the names from people that haven't played for the last year or 2.

I want to change my name into 'Incredible Hulk' but its taken from a alpha player which does not play anymore.

Couldn't you remove the names for those alpha players that do not play anymore or haven't played.

And about the gambling.
What about gambling for the name saying that you want this name for 2k varium but if the other person don't pay, then his name is taken after a week ?

P.S.

I know all of use will unsupport this but I want a nice name like 'Incredible Hulk' rather then 'Sir Hulk'.

Remorse -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 8:57:29)

I support,

But not gambling,

I think they should just delete charters 2 years old below lvl 20 who havnt purchased any varium.

They should also make this a frequent thing eg. delete another 2 year old batch say every 2-3 months.

The person who gets the name should be the person in first in best dressed.

Mother1 -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 9:13:10)

@ remorse

There was a thread like this made before in the past that had a similar suggestion made like that. However for you idea remorse not supported. Say if that person came back to the game after something in real life (which can happen) happened only to find out their character was gone. it isn't fair to that person in the least, and if they did come up with a new character they would have to possibly think of a new name for that character just because of this idea? Sorry but no I can't support it.

At OP

At your idea as well not supported. We don't know what reason those people who haven't played for 2+ years left. many of those players could have even paid for a name change with varium and if they were to come back and find out that their name was taken from them due to a feature like this it is money down the drain.

Remorse -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 9:38:25)

@ Mother

If the devs were concerned about that, then why have they already deleted a set of old characters before?
Cat remember the exact update but I remember it occurring.

Plus it is extremely unlikely that the person who comes back to the account cares if its gone.

If not then perhaps 1-2 months before deleting it, an email is sent to the email you signed up with explaining you character will be deleted, this message would also be pased on to the battle on account so that the player is more likely to become aware in case they do want it.

Mother1 -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 9:55:42)

Take a look at this thread

The OP of this thread had an idea that sounds like yours only his was focused on lower level players that were level one. Some people agreed later on, while other didn't. I don't agree with it because real life can happen that can keep us away from the game or even a computer. Say this does happen, and you can't get to a computer in time to get the email. How is it fair that this person should have to recreate a character and choose a different name just because they could get to a computer within X amount of time and someone came up with this idea because they wanted that name? Can you explain to me how that is fair?

Unless we know someone 100% quit and isn't coming back it wouldn't be right to delete them because they didn't come back for X amount of time.

Also do we know their reasons for deleting these characters? No we don't for all we know they could have been hackers abusing the system or requested that their characters were deleted we don't know. So even if they did delete some old characters for whatever reason inactivity and wanting some inactive players name alone isn't a good enough reason to delete a person's character data.

I know there have been cases were some people are inactive for a long time and for whatever reason decide to come back and I know if they did that only to find that their characters were deleted no matter what level they would be upset.

Remorse -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 10:08:53)

^ Yes its not fair people who are away and come back with a deleted character.

But at the same time it's not fair that people who have quit don't allow the name to be passed on.
It's also not fair that these players take up space on the ED servers hence contributing to lag server crashes etc.

In many things in life no matter what you do things are gonna be unfair to some people and better for others.

Depending on your ethical view, this fairness should probably be met somewhere in the middle.

Saying they shouldn't ever be deleted is being completely one sided.

Somewhere in the middle would be making a long 2 year requirement for being deleted an 1-2 moths of warning.

You have to remember you can't please everyone, but rejecting ideas based on the fact not everyone is pleased whould get no one anywhere in anything in life.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 10:39:38)

Supported

I remember Dev's deleting few accounts earlier, i guess its time to do one more sweep :D

Mysterion. -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 10:44:09)

Almost the same suggestion as me.

I only support if it does not effect people who have ever bought var.
Or if people went online the last 2 years.
And like my suggestion, a email verification so they can keep it by one single click.

Stabilis -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 11:03:45)

Know what would be awesome?

If Rabblefroth, Titan, or even Cinderella posted a list of names that are newly available, and a list in-game too.

zion -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 11:12:06)

The have done this once. However, the big oversight was not deleting chars from alpha which were never played. Some of the best names are taken by ZERO WIN characters merely because they were created in alpha - this needs to be fixed.
How about less than level 5 and no varium purchased?

Stabilis -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 11:15:59)

^

You can also just check if they have been inactive for 365+ days and that the name was not purchased with name changer. [8D]

Chosen 0ne -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 12:26:32)

Im just saying... If they choose to release a new name called, The Chosen One, you had better let me take it... Lol

Average -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 15:50:16)

@zion Level 5 or less without varium, and 1 or 2 years of activity, is great. Honestly, name or not, how much do you care about a game if you didn't get past level 5, which only takes about an hour?
I have 10 characters, and they're all level 6 or higher. Most of them were made in Delta, too.

Edit: Also what Depressed Void said is good too.

Crimson Eagle -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 16:14:43)

I know this is unfair to those players. I know I'm being selfish.
But I have to support this idea...

I was thinking of changing my name to "Cleany" "Falconite" "Kinetic" but guess what?
ALL taken by alpha players with starter weapons and 5 wins.

IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!

No wonder most of the names are taken! Try what I did; search up a bunch of cool names, I can guarantee you, 90% have hardly ever played!

The developers have done a sweep once before. I say we do it again!

P.S Ill let you take that name chosen ;D
P.S.S I call dibs on the three names I posted ^^
~Cleany

Lord Loss... -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 17:04:46)

Supported. I doubt that if you have a lvl 5 account and haven't logged on it for 2 years, you would even want to come back, or remember having it at all. A warning could be sent to the player 2 weeks prior to deleting the account.
OOOOR the account can be spared, and just the name removed, so if by any chance the previous owener does log on after 2 years of absenteeism, then they will have to pick a new name for the same char. Personally I would like nothing more than to remove the dots from my name.

Chosen 0ne -> RE: Gambling on a Name (1/3/2013 17:37:23)

You guys, I bet if you just tweeted Titan or Nightwraith to free up a name right before you were going to buy one, they would do it and let you know ASAP.

LatinLover/Martini -> RE: Deleting Names (1/3/2013 18:23:25)

yes they definately need to go through and delete names... I have great name Ideas :'(

Rayman -> RE: Deleting Names (1/3/2013 19:45:20)

Titan Already Deletes names time a time, Slowy. 400,000 a year or so.
These are the requierements to delete a character/name: (Tweeted by titan)

quote:

I deleted characters that were not accessed for over a year, and were low level, with no upgrades and no rare equipment.

So, If you wan't a name that was taken by an alpha player, sorry you cant get it because its taken by someone with rare equipment.

This is when he deleted characters back then:
quote:

by the way, I just freed up 400,000 Character names! If you were unable to get the name you wanted, you might want to check again!

The Incredible Hulk -> RE: Deleting Names (1/3/2013 20:09:02)

Look right, if you look at most of the alpha players, they don't even play.

Most of the Alpha players are level 1 with the rare equipment but don't play.

Why not just delete them because they haven't played for 3 YEARS!

Mother1 -> RE: Deleting Names (1/3/2013 20:17:30)

@ blaze

Those ultra rare alpha items give them immunity from getting deleted if with rayman says is true. The other players must have either leveled up enough to avoid deletion, have those rare item, or has been taken by someone else already who has leveled up a character high enough to avoid deletion.

The Incredible Hulk -> RE: Deleting Names (1/3/2013 20:35:02)

Look right, I just want a better name then 'Sir Hulk'

I would pay a lot to get that name, because I like it

Midnightsoul -> RE: Deleting Names (1/3/2013 23:32:32)

Supported...except how about like...

Old player logs in. Realizes it has no name...then a screenie pops up on ED.
*Please apply new name*
So basically, you get a free, but an unavoidable name change if you don't play for two years straight.

Stabilis -> RE: Deleting Names (1/4/2013 14:19:20)

I do not get why players with ultra-rare items avoid the sweep even if their activity in EpicDuel was minimal?

Mother1 -> RE: Deleting Names (1/4/2013 14:34:54)

@ depressed

If those players were to come back, and didn't have an account, they couldn't get back the rare items that they lost. Worse to wear if they paid for that item it would be money down the drain for that person.

Stabilis -> RE: Deleting Names (1/4/2013 14:46:44)

Maybe you may not understand this "deleting names" practice. Deleting names is not deleting accounts. Deleting names is stripping the display name from the player. Their username and password is unchanged. On their next login, if they do login, they will be prompted to enter a new display name that is shown to other players playing EpicDuel. My "name" is Oe, but it is not my username, I can change my display forever, but it is not affiliated with the security half of logging into EpicDuel besides identifying which character that resides under my username. Sort of how we can have 6 characters under a username. Is this answering?
