I don't know whether you guys might like the idea but...
When you go into competition, you can either choose like Competition 1 or Competition 2. I will use the Golden Yeti as an example.
Each competition has 50 Golden Yetis. You can either choose to be in Competition 1 or Competition 2. Once chosen, you cannot rechoose.
I made this idea because I thought about what Nightwraith said on the design notes about how discouraging it can be if a player had thousands of more points than you and you just started.
