Arch Fiend -> the fear...of a painting. (2/5/2013 13:14:58)

So this is a BIT of a different topic though it does relate to artwork in a way. From time to time, though it was much more an occurrence in my novice years, I would want to draw something. But what I wanted to draw was so complicated or I respected it so much I didn’t dare try for fear of not doing it right. I know there were times I wanted to color or paint something or even shade it but I was afraid that the design was so good my less developed skills of coloring and shading went up to the task. Now in hindsight, this is all counter productive and really a waste of sorts, because to actually get to the level it takes to each my own expectations means to face challenges that I cant be certain to succeed. However for one reason or another the mere fact i had less then a 50% chance of getting it right the first time made me completely abandon the project all together (I still have pre-planed drawings from years ago in different places in my domain xD.) I’m sure everyone’s had this experience, so this is a place to talk about it and discuss possible plans at attempting these feats or even stories of successfully facing this fear and overcoming it for better or worse.

I know the feeling. I made a good drawing (better than my usual standard) and wanted to colour it. But as it is much harder to erase colour I got so .. paranoid that I traced the drawing and coloured the tracing. I repeated it like 3 times before I felt confident enough to colour my drawing. While i was colouring it, it turned out well and I realised I shouldn't have been so paranoid. Unfortunately, my friend spilt some water on it. It goes into my top 5 artistic facepalms.

That is part of the reason I enjoy doing digital art more. It allows me to experiment since I can undo anything that goes wrong. That is why if there is a digital drawing and a painting that are similar in quality, I would think the painter put more effort in.
