Exploding Penguin -> Are TLMs really more tactical than normal mercs? (4/25/2013 23:31:48)

What do you think? Personally, TLMs are by far less tactical than normal mercs, and I'd even go far enough to say that they're one of the least tactical classes. Their skill tree is extremely straightforward that has a bunch of skills which only have a single effect and not multiple. Atom smasher only removes EP, frenzy only recovers HP and does damage, blood shield only buffs resistance, stun only stuns, field commander only buffs strength, poison only poisons, whereas normal merc's maul does damage, penetrates defense, and can stun, their bunker has a crit chance and penetrates defense, they have a unique debuff, blood commander adds lifesteal, and adrenaline is a unique passive which isn't like the other passives at all. BM/BH also has reflex, which has a nice added EP recovery effect, TM has assimilation which returns energy while taking some away, CHs have static charge and a debuff (the lack of a debuff, in my eyes, takes away lots of strategic play with a class), and the list could go on for a while. What do you think? Is TLM really a tactical class, or is it just a straightforward tanking class with simple skills?

dont confuse tactics with versatility.

tanking damage, healing, etc, for tlm is a tactic. no matter how un-smart it may seem. (perhaps it seems that way because theres so many tlms compared to mercs)

while mercs require more versatility. (intimidate, maul, artillery, bunker, atom etc.) tlms really only need field medic, mineral, and reroute, and maybe atom depending on the build. this is because the synergy for tlm was screwed up in delta.
now it requires straight forward "tactics" to survive.

No doubt tlm is extremly boring, unlike merc that can use the biggest variety of builds and outfits for skills and tectics.

Fun, amirite? Uses basically 4 skills. Pretty good stuff for a tactical mercenary.

Actually I think it is a bit more tactical. It can counter various moves, constantly stop rage, posion to force heal. It takes a lot of tactics to use one, whether its a zombie build or not.

I think Merc is just more stressful to use, for it is about trying to deal high amounts of damage consistently while watching your energy.

@ king, you nailed it. Its the most common and famous tlm build so far. level 8-10 sugical which can do 40-50 damage plus rage IA special which will do 45-50 damage on rage will definitely kill any build (with the exception of caster mages perhaps). something really has to changed.

as a former caster it definitely kills sword tlms.

however focus tlm have trouble with malf. this is because its their resistance, robot damage, and SS damage thats at stake there.

any build that is set up to take energy, (Assim/EMP, Frostbite) will beat it.

I love tacticals even with the caster/assim nerf i have 90% win ratio vs them since i have 3 mana drainers new shards assim and gun core which drains energy.
Also the plasma bolt deals very high damage and poison bot which gives me edge(Use after heal) if you are 5 foucus they are allmoust impssible to beat but as casters they are easy!
