Tshok'el - Laughter of God
Tsukael -
'Oruel - Enlightenment of God
Taabahel - the Longing of God

Prologue

The announcement rang out through the spiritual realm. It was that time again. Gabriel's voice rang loud and clear.

"Gather, sons of Yahweh! It is time to adventure into a new realm. Today is the day you learn a new role in the Kingdom of Yahweh!"

The angels gathered from all corners of the world, all nooks of the universe. The sound of their whispered anticipation to each other was thunderous and Gabriel smiled. He loved it when they were given the ability to change. Yahweh was truly an awesome God to allow the angels such freedoms. It fostered incredible knowledge about each other's jobs and balanced out the parceling of duties. While the angelic host gathered, his own Seraphims and the Cherubim went out into the world to take the place of the angelic host in watching over Yahweh's creation. As Gabriel watched the last of the Cherubim exit the heavenly realm, he shivered just slightly. That division of the host were the most frightening and he gave them a wide berth. It's not like the Seraphim were wimps... but there was just something about the Cherubim that made one pause.

Michael, the chief of the princes moved beside Gabriel. "Praise be to Yahweh! I can't wait to see how this turns out!" He elbowed his Seraphim counterpart and grinned. "Got any new crazy proclamations for us today?"

Gabriel groaned and rolled his eyes. "Funny, Michael, really. Archangels have such a great sense of humour."

"Aw, come on Gabriel! Why have a sense of humour if I am not allowed to exercise it?"

"If you actually had a sense of humour that would be different." Gabriel watched as the last angel took his place before the throne of Yahweh. Chest swelled with pride, he turned to the Presence of Yahweh and bowed. "My good and gracious God, purveyor of justice and lover of the soul, the host is here, awaiting your announcement."

Every angel bowed in that instance, dropping to one knee in reverence for the Creator of All Things. Michael drew his sword and held it out towards the Lord, his head bowed and eyes closed. As the silence hung in the air, Gabriel took the opportunity to just bask in God's light and presence. It was a rare instance, and only during this time of change, was heaven quiet. It was wonderful.

The voice of Yahweh rocked the heavens as each angel received their new tasks. Once the Father finished speaking to each angel individually, His light shone throughout the spiritual realm, deeming His work good and complete. The angels stood for a moment, basking in His glory before they broke out into song.

"Blessed is the Lord,
the One who gives and deems wonders anew.

Blessed is He who sees and hears,
and never gives us more than we can bear.

Blessed is the God of Eternity,
the God of Wonders and the God of Life."

Chapter 1 - Lesson One: Enter in.

Tshok'el glanced about him, cringing at the use of such bland and terrible colours. The God of Creation created colour and showed humanity its splendour and they chose not to use it in the one place it was most useful. This institution, a place of healing and restoration, should have more colour, not none at all. Where were the murals, the whimsical portrayals of the stories of old? Had humanity lost their creativity? Tshok'el realised he needed to get out more. It was probably a good thing that this was his last soul to guard.

He chuckled, more because he remembered how this day felt, the first time he had witnessed a human birth. And now, Tsukael was in that very same place. The angel was pacing, furiously, trying to understand what it was he was witnessing. Granted, the first time anyone witnessed this event was a bit jarring. After all, this was not how they came into being. There were no birth pains cried by the Father, nor the tears and crying of an exhausted mother as the father desperately failed to comfort her. He laughed louder, thinking of all the things he had heard come from a mother and father in those moments as the child was being born.

"How can you laugh at a time like this?!" Tsukael inquired, his face pale.

Tshok'el shook his head. "Because you are a riot, pacing around like some nervous boy about to ask his first girl out on a date."

Tsukael stopped and stared at Tshok'el. "What... do you mean by that!?"

Slapping himself on the forehead, Tshok'el groaned. "Nevermind. You will understand in fifteen years." Was this how 'Oruel felt when I became a guardian? If so, I must find him and apologise!

"She is in pain, and you just stand there, watching? Can you do nothing for her?" Tsukael was beside himself, his eyes imploring the more experienced guardian angel to act.

Tshok'el sighed. "You know this is the way it is to be. Even with all the advancements of medicine and research, mankind has still yet to completely eradicate the birthing pains women were cursed with at the beginning. We cannot intervene. This is by divine decree."

The new guardian groaned and began pacing again. "Yes, yes, Eve, Adam, the Tree, Lucifer... I know the history. Does it get better with time?"

"No."

A solemn quiet hung in the air as both angels thought on that idea. Amidst their quiet contemplation, the activity in the room jumped exponentially, with doctor and nurses swarming around the soon to be mother. Tsukael watched and felt a twinge in his heart. Something was beginning to go wrong with his charge. This babe, finally knit together after nine months of Godly attention, was beginning to be distressed. The angel watched the mother and father's facial expressions change from worried to terrified. They knew what he did. Something was wrong with the baby. The doctors moved fast, messing with knobs and gears on the bed and began to wheel the mother out of the room, panicked voices rising.

Tshok'el followed, nodding. He looked at the guardian-in-training and smiled. "She is a strong woman. Trust me, this is a minor setback. I would be very surprised if she worries beyond the initial shock of the doctor's report."

"How are you so calm?"

"Few women die in childbirth anymore, especially in this country. I am more worried about her husband, to be honest. Up until now, Taabahel has gone to prepare other things, as the father's role in this event is not a job for us. But, our brother will be returning, for this father, once he has begun to really worry, will not be able to let go. Taabahel will need to be here for that, for that is when the Lucifer's servants find this man most vulnerable."

As if the angel had been listening, Taabahel appeared next to Tshok'el and Tsukael as they walked behind the host of humans. "Ah, so, the child must be delivered through surgical means? This will make my job fun."

"For several hours, I have felt an unease in my heart regarding the child. It grew as time went on. Will this be how it always is when there is trouble?" Tsukael asked.

Both experienced angels nodded. "Get used to it, Tsukael. You will have much of this in the child's life. The sooner you understand each foreboding feeling in your heart, the better you will get at guarding each soul you are charged with." Taabahel answered in a grim voice. "Just... pay attention, all the time, even when it seems like the feeling is soft and easily gone. It is never truly gone."

Tsukael hovered around the doctor and the staff who were working on the mother to prepare her for the Ceasarean section. Tshok'el was right, the mother was calm, eerily so. The father, though, looked worse for wear. Taabahel moved close to him, his aura of protection growing. The newly minted guardian growled. He could feel the approach of those who take advantage of times of weakness.

"Tsukael, stay close. Once the child emerges, first he should see the mother, then the father, then, he must see you. If there is an emergency, you follow the child." Tshok'el gave orders as he watched the surrounding areas. "Do not bother with us. Your connection to the child is imperative. Understand?"
