AQWorldsFarmer -> The New Style of Art. (3/3/2014 20:34:27)

After taking a look at the Eggzooka, I realized why we all want the old weapons.
The new items are way too cluttered and overdone in there designed. Take Omega Bunny Borg for example, its hard to tell the core concept of the design and looks unflattering to me.

Now take a look at the Eggzooka, Its simpler and just looks epic. Less is more and in this case it reigns true.

Do you prefer the old style of art or the new?

Ranloth -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/3/2014 20:41:52)

I like mix between both. Detailed but not too cluttered, which may look even worse on low quality. Few examples are: Celtic Cleaver, Dragon Cannon, Bunny Borg (original), and the Black Abyss Weapons - the last one being perfect, in terms of detail.

Furthermore, I think it's the matter of rarity too. Common design takes away the originality, because everyone has it, so there's nothing "unique" about it. Fine example is Founder Set - it may not look the best, for today's standards, but it has that rarity and unique design.

NDB -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/3/2014 20:52:11)

Omega Bunny Borg was drawn by Trizz. Different artist=different style. A person's opinion on art is also very subjective.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/3/2014 20:55:36)

I personally prefer intricate designs. I like having to admire the smallest parts of art. Maybe that's why I think Omega Bunny Borg is the best looking armor in the game :P

NDB -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/3/2014 20:57:02)

Another thing is that they are completely different types of equipment, so you can't really compare them.

AQWorldsFarmer -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/4/2014 17:25:05)

Well i will compare 2 armors that are related to Easter. Bunny Borg (My favorite armor in the entire game!) and Omega Bunny Borg. As Trans said Rarity does have something to do with it, but in my opinion even if the Omega Bunny Borg was a uber-rare item i wouldn't like it. No offence to the creator (I believe its Trizz). I believe his designs are great just not my cup of tea.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/4/2014 22:38:22)

Well, eggzookas just have a beast design in general. Omega promos are also not to intricate, but they have a pattern to them with the angular steel that really appeals to me... if only they would fix that humongous hilt on the mutating because it's honestly atrocious. The Omega sword is also one of my favorite designs.

Charfade's claws are pretty intricate, but I also love them, partially because of the humongous tech they used to offer for my focus BH back in gamma. I still loved the design nonetheless. I was not a fan of azrael's bane and azrael's curse, but celtic cleaver was pretty good (not my favorite), and frostbane looked really dang good.

Frost Slayer would have looked a lot cooler if it was a bit thinner, because IMO it's too thick for its height. Either that or make it longer, but then it would be kind of awkward given its current size to the player model.

s0u1ja b0y -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 0:56:18)

The new art isn't as good as the old in my opinion. The new auxes goony made aren't worth getting. Unless they're rare or have a core I won't get them. Hopefully more of the player art they add follows the old style not the new.

TRizZzCENTRINO -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 1:23:07)

I do admit i went overboard with the omega bunny borg, and yes i do agree the older arts are better mainly because they have special gimmicks and unique details which the current items lack, and they were also from the period which many enjoyed, this would trigger a subconscious attraction towards them as well.
simplicity is good for games like ED, you just won't be able to see all the cluttered details if your character is like 5cm onscreen it would just make it look more cluttered due to how vectors work.

8x -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 3:31:25)

I love the simplicity of an old sword like Frostbane. Sadly, all weapons nowadays have way too much pointless stuff on them.

Remorse -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 3:37:03)

^ I agree,

That is why some simple new weapons such as just simply a light-saber from the arcade is better in my opinion then anything massive and overcompensating.

Also I think the bunnyzookas are even better then the eggzookas, because the bunnyzookas are before the period when they started making everything far too big..
(the eggzooka is almost as tall as the player...)

Small and simple and stylish is what I like.

Scyze -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 5:34:08)

I personally liked the art from Beta - Gamma. NightWraith made some cool looking items and I wish he stayed with those designs. The new ones have too much highlights IMO and it's just too wired. If there's too much detail, that makes it bad, from my point of view.

Introduce -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 6:17:53)

I like the new armors that have been coming out, some, not all.
Frost reaper for example, doesn't seem right too me. I really like beastrider though.
Oh, and trizz, I think omega bunny borg is sweet, kinda reminds me of deltaknight.

Thylek Shran -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 6:20:22)

I like items that dont produce much lag but still look good. So alot Beta and Gamma stuff.

Examples:

8x -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/5/2014 12:12:16)

I should also say that devs did a really good job on updating the old Outlaw pistols.

New: http://epicduelwiki.com/images/epicduelwiki.com/2/28/Outlaw2.png
Old: http://epicduelwiki.com/images/epicduelwiki.com/archive/2/28/20140209132636!Outlaw2.png

It would be pretty cool if they did this to some of the other popular/cool old weapons.

As I said, your artwork is incredible. Just not for my taste. But as Exploding penguin said the edged metal design on swords is what i like. But by far my favorite item in the ENTIRE game has to be FrostBane. Because its Simple and not bulky like swords nowadays.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/7/2014 22:31:04)

More =/= better, is pretty much the punch line.

Too much clutter makes it harder to see what beauty could have originally lied in the base frame design. A lot of newer bikes have all these edges and curves and stuff that I'm not necessarily crazy about either.

AQWorldsFarmer -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/7/2014 22:36:08)

Agreed. I know its exposed to be based on the far future but come on, some of the designs are rediculously overthought.

Collagen -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/8/2014 4:56:13)

I don't know if it's just me, but using the best gear available - azrael gun and aux, I can't make a good looking outfit, it just doesn't match anything.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/8/2014 17:45:46)

Snip. Do not quote the person directly above you. Scakk
Kind of funny about how the whole point of Omega was so that you could customize your appearance to whatever you want while still be in the higher tiered rankings in terms of stats. The fact that promos maintain unique cores and that the default core shop has really not so great cores kind of deteriorates the whole purpose of Omega.

DunkThatOreo -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/9/2014 18:54:34)

^That's the dev's logic for you right there.

Wootz -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/13/2014 17:55:02)

The whole new style of art is just guest artists' work. Nightwraiths designs are just getting better and Charfade has been nailing them for quite some time. ^^

Predator9657 -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/13/2014 18:28:26)

I suppose "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

As for me, I don't really mind the art; I'm either picking the weapon with the best core for my build, or the cheapest alternative.

Though once in a while it does feel good to look at your character and think "wow, he looks quite cool" :P

It is rather something weird and i speak for myself in this. Each time you try creating something new, for others to use, there is this "thing" in which pushes you to do something : bigger, better, stronger. Often adding a bunch of details, is the most visible sign.

Call it progression? Regardless...

We usually try to offer the best we can in those cases and i suppose others aren't that much different.

8x -> RE: The New Style of Art. (3/14/2014 2:55:55)

@Veneeria
In my opinion, your suggestion weapons actually fall into the same category as Frostbane. For example, I just love Chaotic Cleaver and I was using it for a long time after it was released. It has got just enough details and an exposed blade. Lets compare it to (just off the top of my head) Barrens Buster P. If you actually wanted to cut someone with that thing, you would have to hit it repeatedly against a wall to break off the unnecessary horns and wrappings...
