UPDATE: We know you guys want the Android version. You might not think that this is possible but WE want Battle Gems on Android more than you guys do, but before that happens we need to get the iOS build stable and essentially bug-free.

The benefit of being an iOS user is obvious... you get to play before everyone else. The benefit of being an Android user is that you will probably end up getting a nice, stable version of the game since the iOS users caught all the bugs for you.

Are you still working on the Android version of Battle Gems? Yes, we are. However, our team is very small so we can only focus on one version at a time (which is why we didn't build both versions side by side in the first place). Once iOS is stable we will refocus on the Android version as our next build.

When will the Android version arrive? The Android version will take us a few weeks to complete, AFTER we have the really BIG bugs squished on iOS, Apple approves the update and Apple pushes the update so that all iOS users can get the updated and much more stable version of Battle Gems.

Why iOS first? Because Apple has the greatest size restrictions. Battle Gems has the most finished content that AE has EVER put into a game at the time of release. It made the most sense to start in the place that allows the smallest amount of space, rather than start on Android and spend even more time trying to shave the game down for the iOS folks.

Will you still be able to get Founder on Android? Yes! The Founder Package will remain active for at least a couple of weeks after Battle Gems has been released on iOS, Android, FB, Web and Windows Phone.

Since the Founder Package will remain a few weeks once Battle Gems is released on FB and the Web, does this mean that we can purchase the Founder Package via our Artix Master Account? I want to be able to purchase the package for Artix Points because that is the only way I ever make purchases for AE games.

We’re sorry, but this option is not available. Upgrades and refills must be purchased through your respective mobile store, as with most other mobile games.

Ninjaty -> RE: =BG= Staff Information Thread (3/28/2014 3:33:31)

@above: That page only answers questions for the current platforms, not future ones. So it isn't necessarily a reliable baseline for assumptions regarding any future releases of the game.

Q: Are you going to add Artix Points as a payment option?
A: We're sorry to announce that Artix Points will NOT be a supported payment option, as the integration will be too messy. Artix Points will not be used to buy Founder for iOS or Droid.

From the first post of the Q&A thread, since there is no mention of the web version, there might be a possibility of portal integration with that, but as for mobile versions it seems that they have ruled it out. Also I am not sure what separation there is between FB and Web version but anything released as a FB game has to use FB's payment portal.

1.0.2 is LIVE! We highly suggest that you close and restart the app after getting the update.

We still have a few issues to work out but 1.0.2 seems to have increased stability on all devices. Lower end (Older) devices will still have occasional crash issues but they should be less frequent. Your Facebook friends should have re-appeared on the map.

We will continue to work on the few remaining bugs to get the iOS build as stable as possible before moving to the Android port.

I anticipate this android release :)

Ninjaty -> RE: =BG= Staff Information Thread (4/22/2014 5:37:13)

So now the web version will be exclusive to FaceBook? Yeah, guess I won't be able to become a BG Founder after all...
For the future though, they might want to do a little research on their users. Not all their users are on FaceBook, despite the fact that they claimed this. In fact, I don't personally know a single one that is.

I also don't see how it can still be considered an "Omni" game, if it doesn't actually run on every platform imaginable (if I want to run it on my Commodore 64, I will! [:D]). Surely they have to change things between each version, so why not just take the time, and actually make the stand-alone web version, despite the longer development time? From what we've been told, only certain aspects are messing up in the loader for the web version, so those should be isolated and worked around or reworked completely.

Still, I feel it would be worth it, just to have it hold true to it's name, and actually be accessible to all users. Not really "omni" (all) if only some can have it.

Sora To Hoshi -> RE: =BG= Staff Information Thread (4/22/2014 18:19:23)

To clarify what is mean by Omni, as stated in the very first DN Artix wrote on the project

quote:

Omni pretty much means "all." So an Omni-Game must be a game that runs on ALL devices. The real name for this game has not been chosen yet (if you have good ideas please post them as a comment here or on Twitter)! So for now, we are calling this Project: Omni. We are building this game for web, FaceBook, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android, Tablets and other devices.

Obviously a commodore 64 is joke but I believe their definition of it fits to what Battle Gems is. It will run on all available platforms. Also remember this is the VERY first game for this, Im sure as the team gets better at what goes into development, other devices will follow.

Facebook is listed there so Im not sure why your making such a big deal about it. And if you see how many replies the AQW FB page gets, Id be fair to assume that a lot of their users are, not everyone has a mobile device.

Ninjaty -> RE: =BG= Staff Information Thread (4/24/2014 4:10:14)

@above: Exactly, not everyone has a mobile device, nor do they necessarily want to. These people are being catered to with the Facebook version. Well, some of us have neither Facebook nor mobile devices, but where is our love? We were still promised the same thing as everyone else; that this game would be available to everyone. But as it turns out, it clearly isn't. Some people don't like Facebook, and some downright hate it. I am among these kind of individuals, but that doesn't mean I wasn't looking forward to the first AE omni game, especially with a stand-alone web version being mentioned along with the others.

An omni game should depend on the platform, not what software that platform is using (aside from the OS of course). Similarly, you shouldn't need to have some absurd browser installed, just to use the camera of your phone. A true web-version of an omni game, would not rely on a social networking service (or any other unrelated service for that matter/software), but rather just requiring the user to have access to where it is hosted.

This omni game has basically become a restaurant, advertising that everyone can eat there, yet not offering a single item for vegetarians.

Bringing the game back to a pure web version is possible, but it will also take time and dedication. So I say, let's bring the omni experience back to it's true form. It will take a while, but for a pure web version, it will be worth it. Like I said in my previous post, there will always be certain changes made between each version. While those changes aren't usually in the form of a complete rebuild of certain features, that doesn't mean they don't take time.

For this version, all they'd need to do, is stick to what they already know. I am well aware that once you've already built something, it can be very difficult to change it, because those changes will have consequences in several places within the structure. But I also know that, if you step far enough back, those things can very well be handled. I too have had to convert some huge projects from my work. Once I even had to remove all OO aspects from an application, but still retain the functionality. It's not a short process, but it ensures that everything lives up to the specifications one has made for the project. So if I can do that, surely AE can do this as well.

So yes, I believe that AE is more than capable of making the web version. All that matters is, are they dedicated enough to see it through, and stick to the original specification?
