"You will pay, in pain and blood, for every day you have defied me," Siriso hissed, "for it was you, who was the spine for the rebellion." And with that, Siriso threw Demria into the lake where the tree on a crate on a rock stood. Badly wounded and poisoned by Siriso's necromantic sorcery, Demria struggled to swim to no avail. Swiftly, the cold waters filled her lungs and she sank into the dark depths. However, Demria slowly came to. Death's scythe had not cut her down, and she was still alive . . . sort of. She knew she had been resurrected by Siriso, but it took great power to resurrect a person and keep the soul within. However, she soon realized that she had not been brought back completely. The strange dreamlike state in which she awoke to persisted, and try as she might, she was unable to regain full control of her body. Demria tried to move her arms. They still worked, but they did not move all the way. She turned her head, but was also restricted. Don't struggle. The hollow whisper sent a chill down her spine. She knew that was not her voice. Another voice, then another, then another joined the first. Vengeance . . . Kill the Necromancer . . . You have joined us . . . Eventually, Demria surfaced from the lake. There, on the shore, was Siriso, hands glowing as he struggled to control her. Her. Demria looked down with mounting horror. She was no longer in one piece. Her body had become tangled in seaweed and horribly, fused with the other corpses of the lake. Even worse, a strange ectoplasm had secreted itself over her skin, mixed with . . . hagfish slime, she realized, as a snakelike fish burrowed out of her arm and dropped into the water. She realized then: she was dead. Dead, but not quite dead. Siriso laughed. "Look at you," he sneered. "Once, a healer, and now . . . a monster." Kill him, a voice said coldly. Yes, kill. Kill the Necromancer, he who cursed you and slew us, the other voices joined in a chorus. Although it was against her nature, Demria felt a dark rage well up inside her. Instantly, her will weakened and sheD surged forward. She realized what had happened, but it was too late, as a hundred wills together brought her forward. Siriso reacted too slowly. Her hand and several hands of other corpses reached forward, grabbing his head. Siriso screamed and tried to twist free, but her fingers twisted around his hair and her other hand grabbed his throat. Before she could resist, her other arm was moving, with the fingers still gripping his skull. There was a sickening sound of ripping flesh, as Siriso's head tore off along with the spine. Siriso's soul tried to escape, but dozens of arms reached for him and dragged him down the lake. She surfaced again, having defeated her killer. "Now . . . what?" she said, surprised that her voice still worked. Now, leave the lake, a voice said. Yes, move to attack, sneered another voice. No, try to heal us! Separate us! O----- As she felt the rising conflict within, Demria plunged underneath again. She was now a monstrosity, still able to speak and, as she discovered later, to use her healing magic, but although she was the main body of the behemoth, she was only one of many wills. She was unable to control her actions, and now lived in the lake with the tree on a crate on a rock, trying with all her knowledge to separate herself from the others, to, at the very least, attain a peaceful death. Perhaps, someone may put her out of her terrible existence, but for now, the lake is feared for the Terror Beneath, once known and now forgotten as Demria the healer.
