I must admit, the aspect of competition in this game is absolutely broken, and then crapped on. It is quite evident that over these past 1-2 years(Omega in particular) the amount of long term players has plummeted and the drive for players to keep on playing has diminished. Many may have their own personal beliefs why this is, but the aspect sticking out in my mind is competition. As a player that has once been a "fairly"(in total I've had about 12 all-nighters competing for LB positions) competitive player, I can say that ever since the removal of Win/Loss Ratios and Flags on the leader boards there is/was no real purpose to keep on playing. There was simply more drive, as it's fun to compete with your friends to maintain a better Win/Loss Ratio and prove that you're better than opposing alliances. After these past few years ED has decided to remove these core aspect, which caused me to stop playing for legitimately around 1.5 Years or so. ED should greatly focus on rewarding the competitive strategy aspect, instead of the ability to grind out fast wins, but with a poor ratio.

Basically: PvP should be about how you're able to use strategy(Skill), not simply how you grind out kills(No Skill).

I think part of that is jugg makes you want to cry, the lower levels steam roll in wins, and not having world dominations like they use to in gamma. Also when they removed the flags and changed from battle tokens to credits a lot of people gave up, seeing as all their hard earned credits and battle tokens went into flags and then they disappear.
