Part I: Off the Rails
“Uldor, uh... What should we do?” the Chronomancer said eyeing something just outside of the illusionary world he was stuck in. All around him the village of Frostvale was burning. The tree which had been so finely decorated moments earlier was now smoldering and bare, and the ornaments hung with care from it’s branches lay in a heap of broken glass, tangled tinsel and a battered star stuck upside down to top it all off. Dark elemental energy permeated the air as sent spell after spell flying, all the while spouting noises just a syllable or two short of actual words filled with his fury.

The familiar form of Uldor began to materialize, a grim look on his bandaged face. “Perhaps,” the blind seer said, “We let this run it’s course?”

Just over the horizon north of Frostvale, a large moving mass started to become clear. At first all Kor could make out was a patch of white extending over the northern wastes past the moglin village, then little patches of color became visible, confirming his fears. An army, filled to the brim with Frostval cheer, was making it’s way south to the now ruined village.

The Chronomancer glared at the blind seer who had brought the army here. With a sigh Kor asked, “You really have it out for me right now, don’t you?” He shifted through the gear he had been smart enough to bring with him if Zorbak got out of control, mostly items meant for dealing with the undead and the now former-necromancer and not the hordes of frozen creatures and monstrous toys out for his and Zorbak’s blood. “Zorbak! Hey! Get over here!”

At first it did not seem like the moglin heard him, but his rampage slowly came to a halt, huffing in anger and eyes twitching even after his several minute long tantrum. As a final act of wrath, he bashed the unconscious Santa Kabroz’s head one last time be finally looking receptive to what Kor had to say. “You done? Or do you want to take your frustration out on those very merry Frostval monsters heading our way?” his finger pointed up towards the increasingly obvious horde descending on them.

Barely a second passed for him to register the new target of his reawakened hate. Zorbak’s tail twitched once, than a twice. And then came a roar from the little blue moglin filled with so much pure anger and raw fury that it seemed almost unnatural coming from a moglin, even one as ebil as Zorbak. He rushed forward, his staff spewing blobs of dark magic at the rushing army.

“Alright, so got Zorbak taking car...” a burning arrow whizzed by, managing to slip through the narrow opening between his head and his left pauldron and leaving only singeing his hair. Kor glared at Uldor again, “You knew they would follow didn’t you. Can you at least give me some help here? Zorbak is not going to be able to take on two armies very easily is probably going to try and kill me after anyways, so at least one or two people would be welcome.”

More arrows followed shortly after, all narrowly missing their mark. The arrows’ flames quickly dissipated in the thick snow of the tundra. The bright red knights were joined by a large number of HULA members, each and everyone of them gathered here seemed to be royally angry with the antics Zorbak had gotten into. “Well, guess it is time to have a little fun before my calvary gets here!” Kor charged into them with a smirk on his face as Uldor faded back out of this illusionary world.

Part II: Not Quite There
The lines between the two armies was blurred now, every which way he turned Kor saw members of both sides coming after him. Zorbak was lost amongst the sea of imagined monsters, likely slaying them even faster than him. The moglins in the village had even become involved, some injured in the rush from the infectious HULA troops had embraced the infection and those uninjured took up arms.

One Vampire lord managed to find itself at the end of Darklaw, gravely injuring it. It hissed, barring it’s sharp fangs at Kor, before leaping at him. The world began to slow as the hulking brute drew closer, although it never reached a complete stop. Time was a Chronomancer’s domain, a weapon with near infinite application. Kor positioned his blade just so that his foe would be skewered by the sharp blade, and let this imaginary plane return to it’s natural pace. The confusion that had warped the Vampire’s face as the Chronomancer moved with extraordinary speed to fear. It’s body crumbled to a fine red dust as it slid down the blade, mouth first.

More HULA troops quickly came to avenge their fallen brother-in-arms, throwing caution, and their lives, to the wind. Uldor had done a good job of making all these imagined monsters seem real, almost too real. He could feel every blow that connected, every bit of resistance as he cleaved through them, almost as good as if they were truly there. It made it every bit as intense as it needed to be if Zorbak was to believe it, and like it.

A stream of flames erupted to his left, igniting several lycanfied moglins and incinerating a vampire. “Man, Uldor didn’t tell me you got an angry horde of moglins on you! Just what did you do?” That caught his attention. It was not Zorbak that was closing in on him, rather it was an old friend. He wore a tattered set of robes that a necromancer almost always wore, the purple spider upon his chest was now almost black, the robes had since become a dark shade of gray.

The ex-necromancer pulled his hood up as he summoned up a great gust of wind that tore apart the frozen ground, ripping oddly large skulls out of the ground. It ran through many of the knights still attempting to apprehend Kor and Zorbak, flinging them away from the battlefield. “Uh, I’ll just assume they were after you too, that good?” more cries of panic began to erupt from the battlefield as two others joined the fight.

A swift kick sent an angry, axe wielding, moglin flying as the blind sage began to manifest again. The snow white mini-warrior sailed through his still incorporeal form, “I take it things are going well?”

Another burst of flames forced Kor to leap away from Uldor, a man clad in heavy armor of various shades blue and purple rushing through the flames. The man’s surprisingly long blade cleaved through a large group of strange beast that the moglins had taken to use as mounts against them and his thorny shield helping to make sure they would be dead and useless. Sparks of energy arced around the curved sword, injuring the strange creatures further.

“Get down!” A giant four leaf clover shot through the crowd as both Chronomancer and seer ducked. At first Kor thought that the leprechauns finally caught up, adding even more chaos to the simulated war. As they drew closer and he got up to his feet, he reeled back in horror. They were abominations somewhere between leprechauns and moglins without any of the charms either race had. Uldor was just trying to spite him now, that was a certainty.

A silver and gold blade pierced the nearest one. The weapon was quite familiar to him at this point, as well as it’s wielder. Rinia now looked the part of an adventurer, her old armor now barely resembled her old paladin armor. It had only been a short while since they last saw each other. Even then the memories were fuzzy, not quite there.

“Now if we could keep from being interrupted again...” the blind sage paused, waiting for an inevitable interruption. A moment passed with no such interruption, “Alright, where is Zorbak? While it seems unlike for him to be killed, I would rather you keep your eye on him.”

Other than him and Uldor, only three other disruptions drew in the large simulacra army. He hadn’t noticed it until that very moment. Kor’s left hand quickly attempted to cover half of his face as it revealed his lack of foresight. “Ugh...”

The frown on the blind seer’s face seemed all the deeper for his lack of eyes, “You lost him didn’t you? Go get him before he gets hurt then!”

Electricity flowed through the air as the blue armored knight broke through the enemy lines separating him and Kor and Uldor. After finishing off several nearby monsters he lifted up the visor covering his face, “You mean we have to save Zorbak? Well, guess I can retire knowing that I have done just about everything...” The other two were also converging on them as well.

For whatever reason, the face of the knight seemed oddly familiar but no name came to him. A few locks of red hair peaked out of the open visor, as well as his attire seemed to trigger a few sparks of recognition that still could not place where or even when he had met him. Kor’s attempt at identifying this man managed to catch his notice, and he chuckled before saying, “What’s wrong Kor? You look like you don’t know me at all! I could have sworn we fought together at Paxia.”

“No, I don’t...” it was an odd blank. He knew why he went there, that he was there, and what happened before and after, but not while he was near the island itself. He hadn’t thought of it until now, and that disturbed him greatly. It was the same feeling as his last venture with Rinia.
History was not something to be rewritten by any but the most powerful, whatever did this was not. Changes made parallels, unnoticable to those who did not travel across them, not gaps.

But that wasn’t what mattered at the moment, Zorbak needed to be found before he got too hurt in his attempt to destroy the illusory Frostval and it’s protectors.

Killing Spree Ending Poem

Moglins Moglins burning bright
How your skin lights up the night
As Zorbak makes your town a blight
We ignore your fiery plight.

Moglins Moglins so uptight
Ban together and unite
Cries of revenge to incite
Rise up little ones and fight.

Moglins Moglins when comes the light
Behold, what is this wondrous sight
Just an illusion, so sit tight
Uldor will make it all alright!

Gift Delivery Poem

Snowmen, BlizZards, Giants, and Reavers
We'll slice and dice 'em with our cleavers.

We'll put them out of their miseries
For nothing will stop our deliveries.

To mansions and holes, boxes and trailers
We'll even deliver to the jailers.

We've helped enough, we're done being Cabbies
Now its the time to put on our jammies:)

The A-Team returns: Illusory Carnage Part 1

Seth sat alone in his booth at Yulgar’s. It had been a year since his last mission with the spec ops team, after which all of them had parted ways. Some went incognito, others retired and the rest seemed to have disappeared. He initially promised never to repeat the endeavour, however recent events had made him reconsider his position about the future of the team.

Seth sipped a vial of green liquid, and dove once again into a stack of papers. They contained the records of new potential recruits to the team, and so far Seth had narrowed them down to about ten. On top of the pile rested Eva, a human-vampire hybrid who had taken Battleon’s army by storm. While still being new to the army, she’d had a cataclysmic rise to the top echelons of the warmongers and her fighting style had caught Seth’s eye. Next up was Cerrana, a self-proclaimed Sentinel. While Seth didn’t know much about her, her records indicated an unpredictable fighting style with composed and calculated sense of strategy.

“She just might be the field commander I need” Seth thought to himself.

Yulgar, the inn’s keeper came into the booth in his usual swagger. His hulking physique was enough to unnerve most, yet Seth didn’t notice him until Yulgar took a seat in front of him.

“How’s it going Seth? Any decent recruits?” Yulgar said.

“They’re all decent mate, but I honestly don’t know whom all to pick” Seth sighed.

“What do you mean?” Yulgar said.

“The last time I created the team, I had a variety of options. A couple of Necromancers, few Paladins, spies. Basically, a team with a wide range of skill sets”

Yulgar looked at Seth, “So you’re saying the new bunch aren’t good enough?”

“Nothing like that” Seth defended. “I’ve got a potential Chronomancer, a Sentinel and a good warmonger so far. I’m not really sure about the skill sets of the others at this point”.

Yulgar gazed at the remaining sheets “Hmm, so you’re talking about Nox, Aak and Segax eh? Nox as far as I’ve heard is someone incredibly unpredictable and highly violent and Aak you might say is the opposite”.

Seth nodded “Yeah, I’ve had a few people taking a look at them and that’s what I’ve heard too. If I’m gonna have someone with a strong sense of compassion like Aak, I need someone to balance out the spectrum and that’s where Nox comes in”.

“What about Segax… have you still.. I apologise if it’s not my place to ask” Yulgar said, his gaze fixed on Seth.

“I don’t know really, I’m not sure sure if I want to risk putting him in the line of fire” Seth replied.

“Feeling a bit of love for your brother is it?” Yulgar grinned.

“You know I’m not one for outbursts of brotherly compassion. We all know what happened to the last one!” Seth shot out.
“Alright, you’re the one with the decision ... what about Shinji?” Yulgar asked, holding the last sheet in the pile.

“At the moment, he’s a bit of a wild card. Not really sure whether he’ll agree to join” Seth muttered.

“Well I’d better get going. I think I might need to ask Sophie a favour after all” Seth sighed.

“Oh that’s something I’d like to see” Yulgar roared.

“Please don’t make this any worse! It’s bad enough I forgot her birthday” Seth grimaced.

Yulgar laughed “Don’t worry, I’ll get someone to dig a grave… in case it’s needed”.

“You’re a true friend Yulgar. Thanks for the Dew!” Seth smiled, as he made his way out of the inn.

A Very Vampiric Holiday

Chapter I: While Frostvale Burns

Scene: In the illusory replica of Frostvale, mid-afternoon. A figure draped in a heavy red fur cloak is staring off into the distance.

The town of Frostvale was a disaster area. Buildings burned, and the sounds of screaming could be heard. The snow was stained black and red, from soot and... other substances. The remnants of wooden cottages littered the ground. Off in the distance, one could see the flashes of magic as Zorbak's rampage continued. The cloaked figure was leaning up against a tree, seemingly unperturbed by his morbid surroundings. His face, though shrouded in darkness, appeared to be rather pale. He was probably quite handsome, once, but now his face was marred by three enormous scars, like giant claw marks. Most strikingly of all, however, were his eyes, which shined red. A vampire, clearly, which would explain his aversion to the sun. After a moment, another figure materialized next to him: none other than Sage Uldor.

"Gale, might I ask what you're doing?"

"I'm enjoying the show. You've really outdone yourself this time, Uldor."

"My illusions are not for your entertainment."

"Oh relax, it's not like Zorbak needs my help."

As if on cue, the distinctive sound of a hunting horn rang out, accompanied by a strange jingling noise. Within moments, the sounds of thousands of footsteps thundered on the horizon, and an enormous army marched into view. Their festive coloration made the army's allegiance quite clear: they were the defenders of Frostvale, and they were none too thrilled with Zorbak's mayhem. The vampire, Gale, sighed loudly in exasperation and turned to face Uldor, looking quite irritated.

"Is that really necessary? I'm pretty sure Zorbak has gotten the point already. My job here is done."

"Until Zorbak is finished blowing off steam, you're not done. So how about you stop being lazy?"

"Uldor, this about that blood incident, isn't it? I said I was sorry...."

"Tell that to the holes in my neck."

"Ugh, fine, I'll fight your army. But at least make it so that the illusory sun won't fry me."

"You've got a deal."

Uldor snapped his fingers, and the skies quickly clouded over. Hesitantly, Gale lowered his hood, and felt that he wasn't burning. His long black hair whipped about in the breeze. With a resigned expression, he held up his hand and a large battleaxe materialized. It was red and green, and seemed to be made of hardened candy cane. From inside his cloak, he produced a flask full of blood, took a hearty swig, and then charged off towards the approaching army. Uldor looked on, seeming rather pleased with himself.

Chapter II: Festive Carnage

Scene: Outside the illusory Frostvale, late afternoon. Gale has been slaughtering his way through the army.

Gale was locked in combat with a variety of illusion creatures, including eggnog-themed Frogzards and strange tendril-sprouting peppermints. He was rather bemused with Uldor's strange taste in monsters. Lying all around him were the bodies of other, similar creatures. A moglin leaped off the back of its green, furry mount and hurled itself at Gale, trying to bludgeon him with an enormous lollipop. In one swift move, Gale hefted his battleaxe overhead and slammed it down on the moglin, smashing it into the ground. Then, he hoisted the moglin up next to his face, and sunk his fangs into its neck. He drained a healthy mouthful of blood, and then tossed the moglin to the ground.

After a moment, however, Gale realized exactly what he was doing. He looked down at himself, and saw that he was covered in blood. He glanced about, suddenly seeming rather nervous, and saw the carnage that he had created. It was like he had simply lost control, and gone into a frenzy. He dropped his battleaxe and sat down in the snow, apparently overwhelmed by the sight. As if on cue, Uldor manifested next to him and spoke, sounding rather worried.

"Is something the matter, Gale?"

"Look at all these creatures I killed. What did they ever do wrong?"

"Gale. Get ahold of yourself. You haven't killed anything."

"You must really be blind."

"I am, but that's besides the point. None of this is real, remember? You're still in my illusion."

"I'm a vampire. I know real blood when I taste it."

"No, you don't. This is all in your head. Or, rather, mine. Now, get back on your feet and finish this army."

"If you say so. Not my ideal Frostval, though, that's for sure."

Uldor vanished without replying. Gale sighed in annoyance, and grabbed his battleaxe again. A moment later, there was a flash of light, and a young woman appeared nearby. Gale looked up at her, confused. The woman was short, and fairly athletic-looking. Her skin was almost as pale as Gale's, which was surprising, since she wasn't a vampire. Her hair was short and bright green. She was wearing heavy plate mail armor, covered in a fluffy white winter coat. She looked around, as if she had been expecting to find enemies. Seeing that they were all dead, she glanced down at Gale, and noticed the blood. She quickly spoke up, sounding concerned.

"Hey, are you okay?"

"Uh.... I'm fine. Not my blood, you see."

"Gotcha. Must be from these illusions, then?"

"Indeed. Wait, how did you know they're illusions?"

"We are in Uldor's illusion, right? Trying to sort out the problems with Zorbak?"

"How did you find out about all that?"

"Oh come on, you think you're the only one here? Uldor's brought a bunch of adventurers here."

"So you're an adventurer, then?"

"Yep. My name is Gillian. Gillian Caerellus. And you?"

"Gale Silverwing."

"Well, a very happy Frostval to you, Gale. Now, let's get back to warring!"

As soon as she finished speaking, a rather eager look crossed Gillian's face, and she pulled a sword from inside her coat. She saw the rest of the army not far from them, and charged off. Gale stared after her for a moment, noting that she seemed entirely too happy for someone in a warzone. No wonder Uldor had picked her to help Zorbak become ebil again. Gillian stopped and turned around, seeing Gale stationary behind her.

"Come on, slowpoke! This is the most fun Frostval ever, don't waste it by standing around!"

Gale rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath.

Gee, thanks, Uldor. Stick me with my complete opposite...."

Chapter III: Goals

Scene: Illusory Battlefield, evening. Gillian and Gale are battling side-by-side, talking as they do.

Gale had come to the conclusion that Gillian was not a combatant to be trifled with. She whirled about the battlefield with frightening speed, dispatching hundreds of Frostvale forces with her wide, sweeping slashes. Somehow, likely due to magic, her coat was still a pristine white, unstained by illusory blood. As she battled, she was constantly grinning like a giddy child, as if she was having the time of her life. However, her precise, deadly-efficient movements did not quite match up to her ditzy, energetic attitude. Gale wondered briefly if she might have been hiding something. She asked a question, sounding casually curious.

"So Gale, why did you decide to come here?"

This question broke Gale out of his musings, and he pondered it for a moment. What were his motivations, exactly?

"Well, to protect the world, of course."

"I meant besides that. You must have some reason."

"Weird as it is, helping Zorbak is a heroic act. I wanted to do it."

"So you want to be a hero? Is that it?"

These were surprisingly deep questions, coming from someone who considered warring to be an amusing pastime. Gale wondered whether she was trying to make some kind of point.

"See, the thing is, I have a brother. Storm, just a few years younger than me."

"What does that have to do with it?"

"Storm thought I died years ago. He didn't know that I was a vampire. When we reunited, I could tell that he was unsure. He still loved me, but he wasn't sure if I was the same. He used to look up to me as a brave hero. I just wanted to prove myself, that's all."

"That's quite a story. I'd love to meet your brother some day."

"Haha, I think he'd like you. By the way, since we're asking, what's your motivation?"

Gillian stopped moving for a moment and shuddered. Her face was turned away from Gale, so he couldn't see when she dropped her smile for a moment. She quickly regained her energetic attitude and answered the question.

"Because I like fighting! These illusions are guilt-free."

Gale, however, had noticed her brief shift in attitude. He figured that her reply was probably true, to some degree, but it wasn't the whole story. Now he knew Gillian was hiding something. Cautiously, he decided to press her on it.

"There's something you're not telling me. Why come to me?"

"Uldor mentioned a vampire. No offense, but your kind are usually known for being vicious."

"And why, exactly, do you need someone vicious?"

Gillian stopped fighting the army altogether now. She turned to face Gale, her sword hanging limply at her side. Her cheerful facade was gone entirely now, and she sighed loudly. The two of them stood there in silence for a moment, before Gillian spoke again.

"I need your help."

"With what?"

"I want Zorbak to die."

Gale was dumbfounded. He was stunned into silence for almost a whole minute.

".....WHAT!?"

"You heard me. I'm going to kill Zorbak."

"Why!? The whole reason we're here is to help him! Without him, Lore would be doomed!"

"That isn't true at all. We're prepared for the Leprechauns. Nightbane and Drakonnan are dead. Kabroz has lost his necromancy. Zorbak is no longer needed."

"Okay, no. I'm not going to help you with your crazy scheme. And here I thought you were crazy before!"

"I was afraid you were going to say that."

Before Gale even had time to react, Gillian dashed over to him and bashed the pommel of her sword into the side of his head. Gale crumpled to the ground, unconscious, as Gillian turned away to leave.
