Oranges366 -> Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 5:41:51)

If you have played Epicduel a few years ago, you would know there once was a requirement for captchas
Since in 1v1, there is so many strength builds right now and is so easy to bot we should bring back captchas that you have to complete before entering battles.
This was a pain in the ass back then since it was something like this 2d0Vsgh so why not make it something simpler like 10+10 or 2x2

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 6:00:21)

The captchas we had were not 'true' captchas with anti-bot properties and didn't really work. Not sure why exactly 'true' captchas aren't implemented, but the idea has been brought up to the devs to lukewarm reception.

Digital X -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 6:01:29)

Can't remember the reason it was removed, but it was a good idea, found a thread from 2012 just now where Lycus stated the removal of them would not change..

Link to post. At the bottom there. Unless I read it wrong, I assumed that captcha would not be leaving but it did. Not sure when it happened but it was a good while ago.

Agreed the old questions in the captcha were sometimes a but much.

The berserker killer -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 11:47:45)

It prob didn't "work" but the fact still remains that only a small % of the ED population know how to get past captchas. Captchas were ideal.

Xendran -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 12:00:36)

Bots and exploiters could straight up bypass the catpcha.
It actually just slowed down legitimate players in comparison to the cheaters.

The berserker killer -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 12:06:55)

Given the fact that the majority of botters (for a fact) use auto mouse clickers and are too lazy to download anything else, I do find it safe to say that only a few players could straight up bypass the captcha

Xendran -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 12:12:55)

The bot creators are the ones who implement it into their bot. It then automatically applies for the botters.
It's also *incredibly* easy to do.

I have absolutely no idea where you get the idea that the majority of bots are just autoclickers. They also contain packet editors, primarily to initiate fights and know when fights start and end as well as some other things you can do with them.
There is a reason that literally no successful video game these days uses captchas in-game for restricting fights (Only captchas i've seen recently are the confirmation ones when you salvage an item of heroic or higher). Also, you can make botting basically non existent if you make a game with some depth, disallowing strike spam bots to even stand any semblance of a chance against an actual player.

Hearthstone has bots, but nobody really cares because 90% of the time the deck they are using is just absolutely horrendous and played terribly, so any real player with any semblance of skill will stomp the bot easily.

Lord Machaar -> RE: Bringing Back Captchas (1/27/2016 14:04:58)

The solution of botting is not directly dealing with them, you will never beat them as each day there is something new, each day they find new ways.
The problem could be easily fixed by making YOUR game unexploited by such bots:
- For PVP, the problem is not as severe as NPC botting thanks to 2 things, report system, and bots being unable to preform well in PVP battles unless we are talking about a high rank bot, using a strenght build, then low rank players will struggle sadly, I don't wanna give names but it's a sad story low rank players are getting farmed by a bot while devs aren't doing anything about despite the many reports.
- For NPC, it is impossible to detect a bot, since there isn't a big difference between actually farming NPCs and botting them, you are in the end doing the same 5 moves, playing against the same NPC, etc, etc... at least in PVP, bots can be detected by doing stupid moves such as using energy draining skills while you have 0 energy. The solution for this time of botting is making NPC wins do not grant EXP, at all, or well partially, for instance till rank 20. It is absurd that you see rank 80+ NPC botters with 20k+ NPC wins farming low ranks, PVP advantage must be gained solely from PVP battles or quasi-totally, not vice versa.
