His robot does not work with Absorption, player does not get energy back when he uses it

It's an NPC skill with the robot animation, not an actual robot attack. Likewise, all the skills he uses that look like skill cores aren't really the actual cores.

yea i thought that would be the reason why but i think it would make sense for it to work with Absorb
