Since I doubt they'll make an official post here or DN or tweet about this... It's official. HeroSmash is no longer accessible and it has been officially stated by Nytheria on the AE Discord Server that there are no plans to fix it. For those that do not know, although HeroSmash was not added to the Artix Launcher like the other games, it was still playable on browsers that supported flash until recently. A couple weeks ago, I attempted to log in to HeroSmash through the mobile browser, Puffin. The swf still loaded and I was able to log in and get through character selection, but I could not get past "connecting to server". I notified the moderators on the Discord server to pass it onto the developers (thanks Rickyb) as I thought all it needed was a quick update to fix it. Nytheria replied saying that is not possible. I'll link and quote the conversation. DISCORD LINK: Nytheria's Statement Regarding HeroSmash Xap: I'm asking for the browser flash game to become functional again, which it was until a few weeks ago. As Alina said "But HS will stay online as long as Flash lets us keep it there." - Flash still does allow it if you have a browser that runs flash. The game does still open, I am able to get through character selection but get stuck on "connecting to server" thereafter. @To5 recently stated that they got an error saying "Your game client is an older version. Server requires AQW game version 0 or higher. Please close the AQW game and try again." So it seems a simple client update should make HS accessible on the browser again. Please forward this to someone who would be able to do this. Or are you saying they in the last few weeks intentionally made it inaccessible because of other issues without any announcement? I do not know if this is common amongst players of the other flash games but the majority of ED players sometimes access the game through the mobile browser, Puffin, when they do not have a desktop or laptop in front of them to use the launcher. Some even primarily play through it. Thanks in advance. Nytheria: Hello! Unfortunately, there are no plans to fix HeroSmash if it is no longer working on a browser due to Flash no longer being supported. Xap: Hello Nytheria, appreciate the response. However, as far as I can tell - it is not due to flash no longer being supported that HeroSmash is inaccessible right now, but due to it requiring a client update, which seemingly is connected to AQW's client. All the other flash games are accessible on browsers that have flash. Nytheria: It is due to that and the game has multiple issues that can't be fixed. We mention in this help page that HS has a more complicated engine and it would take a ton of time to fix it - https://support.artix.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004846632. So it was only available on browsers until either Flash no longer worked with it and/or it was irreversibility broken. So the only Flash games that are currently available to play and/or have weekly releases are available on the launcher. Xap: Ahhh gotchu, that's really unfortunate. Appreciate the explanation. Nytheria: No problem! Yeah, it was a fun game for sure with some awesome unique art and game play. The devs had tried to fix it multiple times over the years and there were just too many things broken where the entire game needed a revamp that they were unable to do. And when Adobe announced Flash ending/not being supported, that was pretty much the nail in the coffin. But with the launcher, our other Flash games can continue to be playable and AQ, DF, AQW and ED still have weekly releases. Luin: Don't suppose the source code could be posted, since the game is dead and some people would like to play again. Nytheria: As far as I know, that isn't something the devs plan on doing, as the source code is copy/trade marked by us, but never say never! ________________ To our beloved game, Rest In Peace.
