I was able to get my hands on the new armor, and you guys aren't kidding about that bleed potency. It has some very, very funny synergy with vampire (passive bleed siphon) and necromancer (unravel blood skill- not quite the same nuke as neko, however holy 3k damage and full MP bar, batman). Is there anything else you guys are loving using alongside / the turns before or after the set?

@Sapphire: Yeah, it's costing MP instead of SP contra the info subs, unless they've omitted that it's following M/M Mainstat for SP vs MP, in which case my beastmage self is of no help here. I initially thought this was completely busted, however high-END enemies still can roll out of the status, as opposed to the "permanent" status burns from e.g. Champion of Akriloth / Tera'Suul. Besides obvious boss fights, it's currently showing itself to be a very fun toolset to have around if one has the URs for it.

This needs to be on mp if we have mage weapon. It made using the armor awkward. Why couldn't it be weapon type dependent? This isn't a fix for mp users. You've put too much need on sp and skill deals mage damage.

And bleed empowerment halved? My goodness what an unwelcome change. Should have kept it as it was.

Judged too early. Bleed is nicer but I'd still prefer if skill 3 had a cost reflective of weapon type. SP if melee/range MP if magic. That will be perfect.

Lorekeeper -> RE: =AQ= Nulgath's First Gifts of 2025 (1/17/2025 11:38:59)

As the rest of the sentence on the bleed empowerment fix says, it's because the item can itself inflict bleed. Just as with status eaters that can themselves provide the status, or triggers that can cause the trigger condition, the standard is for power to be lower than if the item itself didn't provide the base status. When something is bugged to have double the power it's supposed to, we can't exactly just let it stand and make it so that nothing can compete unless it's even more broken.

However, the Archfiend's Betrayal skill has a further pending fix (A post was missed clarifying an error of mine in the mechanical summary, that's on me) and will be made to cost MP for magic while being a SP based weapon skill for the other damage types.

I got caught up in the smaller number bad mentality not realizing an additional boost to bleed was included too. Power currently is perfect.

Nice. That will be nicer.

@Lorekeeper: Thank you <3 <3 <3

Edit: The updates still make the armor very, very good for what it is. I've been enjoying stacking it with burn and/or prismatic burn.
Can we talk about the attack animation in the armor? Your character just goes absolutely bonkers on the mobs, I love it so much.

CH4OT1C! -> RE: =AQ= Nulgath's First Gifts of 2025 (1/17/2025 13:21:41)

A very good armour and weapon release. I'm sure that FO Warriors and Rangers will enjoy it. My only two minor criticisms would be:
  • The way that the armour helps hybrids is, in my opinion, rather counterproductive. Spells in FO are simply not very good, even if one of the armour's other skills helps to mitigate that problem.
  • This set arrived at quite the inopportune time. After effectively 6 weeks of benefitting FO Rangers, we get... another release that significantly benefits FO Rangers? Of course, they certainly need the help, but the implementation schedule has become noticeably uneven of late.

  • Aura Knight -> RE: =AQ= Nulgath's First Gifts of 2025 (1/17/2025 16:19:53)

    The versatility of the armor makes it worthy of praise.

    I have to agree. I don’t want to undermine how good the recent FO ranger equips have been, but I couldn’t help but notice this was the fourth year in a row we got a FO ranger set from the delivery war. Spear rangers are imo very well fleshed out with a ton of great item support. What I would like to see this year are new creative and unique spells to use with all of the mage staves and SC lean armors we’ve gotten over the last year or so.

    Fantastic release, we got an S tier armor and (imo) an even better item in the weapon. Just hope we start seeing some new mage stuff that can supplement the direction mages have been pushed

    The 2024 Frostval painting artwork is reminiscent of "Take the Money and Run" by Jens Haaning.

    Sapphire -> RE: =AQ= Nulgath's First Gifts of 2025 (1/18/2025 15:35:28)

    While I do agree that it feels like taking a look at the big picture (recent releases)and looking back at previous years isn't happening at the time of planning releases, as we have received a bunch of armors with spear ranger specifically in mind and there should be some more thought put into spacing this stuff out, I don't agree that this newest armor is ranger focused. It feels like everyone can use it to great effect. I also don't believe that just because it's FO instead of SC lean makes it bad for mages whatsoever. I've said it numerous times, if staff always followed the same basic, boring idea of lean must always follow some pre-concoeved path then the game would be worse. FD lean getting weapons based skills, FO lean getting spell based skills, mage armors not always being FD/SC, Bow users not always being FD lean, etc etc etc are perfectly acceptable and provide for more dynamic gameplay. Monster's aren't threatening anyone enough to make these mathematical and statistic min-modding perfectionist ideas worthwhile in my estimation, and I don't believe they ever will be. I wouldn't want to play if it were that way, tbh.

    I wouldn't change anything about it's design.

    In fact, this is the type of design that should go into BF sets and Giftbox sets IMO, and save the build-specific stuff for everything else.
