Lorekeeper -> =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/1/2025 13:09:13)

Hello, everyone! While we work on big things behind the scenes, and Ianthe works through our supply of lemon bars and steel chairs to wrestle the Lucky Strike revamp into submission, we'd like to bring you a preview of the Rubicon Legion Legate set!

The following is strictly conceptual, with exact numbers for implementation still pending, as that's subject to change based on development and preliminary feedback.

A preview for Ironhoof is still upcoming!

Concept:

This is meant to be a versatile Light set that can alternate between raw damage and status infliction, encouraging skill combos and Bleed synergy while showcasing a new armor lean. The set is meant to perform well offensively or defensively, as well as provide a powerful entry into this new niche, with a good balance of quality and complexity for a week's development.

Set Mechanic:

War Force: Stacks of this effect passively increase your main stat and reduce incoming damage while in the armor.

Weapon:

Rubicon Legate Pilum
  • Tentative function: Light ranged spear that pays HP to inflict Bleed. Can toggle to spend SP for a stronger effect.
  • Description: The spear that marks the front lines of War's legions. Legates can requisition this elite version, which spends HP to inflict Bleed, and can use SP to empower this effect!

    Rubicon Legate Gladius
  • Tentative function: Light melee sword that pays HP to inflict Bleed. Can toggle to spend SP for a stronger effect.
  • Description: The sword carried by all soldiers of War's legions. Legates can requisition this elite version, which spends HP to inflict Bleed, and can use SP to empower this effect!

    Rubicon Legate Pugio
  • Tentative function: Light magic dagger that pays HP to inflict Bleed when casting spells. Can toggle to spend SP and spell damage for a stronger effect.
  • Description: The dagger used by magic wielders in War's legions! Legates can use this elite version. It uses HP to add Bleed to your spells, and can pay SP + spell damage for greater effect!

All set weapons: Can toggle a second time to spend SP and War Force stacks for increased output.

    Shield:

    Rubicon Legate Shield
  • Tentative function: Light shield. -MRM: Heals HP & SP when struck by a Bleeding foe. MC: Compresses a skill that ends your turn to gain War Force stacks, paying SP to reduce incoming damage for that turn.
  • Description: This elite version of the shield carried by the Rubicon Legions can heal HP and SP when hit by a Bleeding foe. It can be used to skip your turn to brace while building War Force!

    Armor:

    Rubicon Legate Armor
  • Tentative function: Light armor, FD by default. Pays -MRM for bonus Bleed damage and MC for skill compression.

Rubicon March: Weapon skill, Light element to get elecomp to cost. Before attacking, Eats Bleed to gain War Force stacks. Adds the 'Trampled' combo tag to your foe if neither combo tag is present.
  • Description: Legates of the Rubicon Legions are not meant to be armchair commanders. March forward, ending any Bleeding on your foe to gain War Force stacks! Applies the Trampled combo tag.
  • Box next to the description: Combo skills remove a tag for an effect. If your foe is already Trampled, this skill will instead deal increased damage. If they're Overwhelmed, it'll make them vulnerable!

In the Name of War: MP Light spell or SP skill depending on held weapon type. Consumes War Force stacks for bonus damage. Adds the 'Overwhelmed' combo tag to your foe if neither combo tag is present.
  • Description: Call forth the echoes of your past charges, and those fallen in battle. This combined assault will apply the Overwhelmed combo tag, and spend War Force stacks for bonus damage!
  • Box next to the description: Combo skills remove a tag for an effect. If your foe is already Overwhelmed, this skill will do extra hits. If they're Trampled, it'll gain elemental seeking!

Legate's Training: Lean toggle between FD, FO, and Dire Lean: A currently unimplemented lean with 1.25x incoming direct damage and 1.25x outgoing status damage
  • Description: Legates of the Rubicon Legions are trained to compensate for the gaps in their experience and adapt to a variety of tactics. Use this to change your armor lean once per battle!

Combo mechanic: Active skills remove the current combo marker and add an effect accordingly.
  • Rubicon March deals increased damage against a Trampled foe, or inflicts EleVuln (All) against an Overwhelmed foe.
  • In the Name of War gains lesser element seeking against a Trampled foe, or extra hits against an Overwhelmed foe.

FSB: Combo finisher output is increased.
  • Armor Description: The armor worn by the commander of an entire legion in War's forces. Contains multiple combo skills, a variety of tactical leans, and the stat-increasing War Force effect!

    Spell:

    Call Legionnaire Echo
  • Tentative function: Guest version of the Echo pet.
  • Description: A more powerful version of the Legionnaire Echo, this wraith is harder to coordinate with and requires SP, but wields greater power as a guest!

    Pet:

    Rubicon Legate Scorpio
  • Tentative function: Accurate pet that pays damage to inflict Bleed, and can be toggled to spend War Force stacks for bonus output.
  • Description: In spite of having more advanced weaponry, the Rubicon Legions keep and enchant a stock of simpler anti-personnel artillery that a single soldier can use to cause deep, bleeding wounds!

    Rubicon Legionnaire Echo
  • Tentative function: Light/Darkness seeking pet that can toggle to eat Bleed to generate War Force stacks. Generating them directly could work instead, though players should be aware that this would lead to lower yields due to the power budget of the pet slot.
  • Description: Although the Rubicon Legions don't employ necromancers or undead spies, some of their fallen remain to hunt down Eclipsus infiltrators. Can consume Bleed to stack War Force!

    Item:

    Rubicon Legate Helmet
  • Tentative function: Provides END/CHA and makes the player's side inflict Bleed based on outgoing hitrate. Compresses an imbue that spends its full cost on making the next attack inflict Bleed.
  • Description: A Legate must be recognizable in battle, no matter the enemy attention it attracts. This helmet aids them in battle by granting Bleed to attacks & spells, directly and through an attack imbue!

  • CH4OT1C! -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/1/2025 13:48:58)

This preview is extremely encouraging. At the surface level, it doesn't appear that I'll personally get much use out of it due to my extremely specific build type. Nonetheless, I'm very excited about the set; the items themselves are not only well designed, but they also introduce a number of extremely interesting mechanics that could be applied to future items too.

JhyShy -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/1/2025 13:55:39)

I really like the set, even when you get rid of the tagging stacking it's at it's core a solid Light set for FD and FO light which lack options and they're also there for people who won't be too keen on the new lean so that's some good foresight I really like the shield functioning like the Warforged shield where you can use it to stack faster, and the stacks themselves having good effects to make the choice to sacrifice them harder. I really like the weapons not sacrificing their damage by default for the bleed, so those who want to deal damage or inflict more bleed have options, thank you for that.

Overall this set is looking to be fantastic and excellent fitting for the community set goals.

Edit: Figured to say that I feel the first skill should be Elelocked, cause in all leans it's a weapon based skill and realistically, only FD warriors will be using that while in FD and it'd be a great boon for FO builds as well. Not only that with the tagging combo I think it'd be good to have one tag set up be cheap to be able to use it continuously as a set up as well.

Zennistrad -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/1/2025 14:31:05)

This looks like a really great set - I think the only problem I have with it is that it's going to be hard for it to compete with Paladin in terms of light armors with DoT support, but considering most Necromancer builds are also heavily status-focused this could still find an excellent niche for those who opt instead for a Necromancer class title.

...Doesn't quite fit with any of my particular builds at the moment, but I'm sure it'll have its fans.

Grace Xisthrith -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/1/2025 14:54:12)

This is awesome, I'm going to give feedback / potential criticism, but I just want to say this looks so cool, feedback doesn't mean I don't think this is great. I'd be super stoked if this came out tomorrow without any changes.

1: Magic and Ranged weapon: Currently we have Lovestruck Handcannon. I think that this weapon should be more different than just having an HP cost, or paying more resources in an ideal world. Some things to consider are having a bleed of a different save value (maybe +10 or +20, maybe -20, maybe +0), or having the weapon have partial trigger on bleed to reduce its cost or something. Just something to differentiate it from the highly similar weapons. The same applies the the ranged weapon with the other lovestruck weapon, the melee is different.

2: Shield: I saw a lot of negative feedback for Sovereign Horror Shield because it only used 5% melee to power its effect. This shield is functionally identical except it has a player controlled trigger and splits its effects between two sources instead of three. 5/3 compared to 5/2x1.5 ~~ this new shield will heal twice as much HP and SP, but it's about twice as much as 4 HP and SP, literally, so I suspect there may be negative feedback on this effect if it doesn't pump more than 10% melee into it.

3: Pet: We don't have a light bleed pet (except a 5 year old rare) but we do have Scarab, which gives 20 bleed potence and is pretty handy for bleed builds. I suppose I'd just want to keep that option in mind while making another light bleed pet, or have the focus more on the eating effect instead.

4: Misc: When you use multiple sources of bleed, the bleed save that the monster makes is always the best save for the monster, giving it the highest chance of success to win. So, if you use a +20 save bleed item (monster advantage) and a -20 bleed save item (player advantage), even if both inflicted .5 power giving you a total power 1 bleed, the monster would only need to resist the +20 save to resist and destroy the bleed. For this reason, unless every item in the set is -20 save, and most importantly the misc's passive effect itself, the -20 save imbue would accomplish nothing except lowering the power of the bleed, so it would be a net nerf. I'd advocate for keeping in mind bleed stacking mechanics to prevent lost value using the misc.

Super cool stuff, very excited to see how the armor comes out, also a related question, but is there a plan to do instance based bleed like there has been with panic? Either way is fine, it would be nice to know if it'll ever happen. Now seems like a good time to ask given a big bleed set is coming out.

Zeldax -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/1/2025 22:39:37)

I agree with Grace Xistrith regarding the Magic and Ranged weapon. They directly compete with the Lovestruck weapons (barring Melee) so they might need something else/more to differentiate themselves.

The pet is alright, but maybe there's a chance to give it a Bleed potency mode similar to the pet's Festive counterpart? Also, inferring from the recent bleed pets we've been getting, the bleed on this pet will probably have a -10 or -20 save, which isn't exactly preferred by some players.

The Misc seems like a better implemented Gingerbrute misc, but its bleed also getting a -20 save is a bit unfortunate.

I'm interested in the Armor and Shield the most. I agree with JhyShy on his feedback regarding the armor's first skill (Rubicon March). Lower costs would mean being able to use the combo mechanics more often and would greatly benefit FO builds. Realistically speaking, the only FD build that would use a weapon based skill is FD Warrior (unless you're using an FD spear build, in which case, why). Hence, the skill being locked to Light wouldn't necessarily make it benefit only FO builds. If anything, other FD builds would prefer to use the second skill (In the Name of War), which is locked to Light. Dire Lean is definitely interesting as it might make it a contender against Neko.

Looking forward to seeing the numbers of these items. It is kinda funny how this set overlaps in mechanics with Gingerbrute (Bleed) and in element (Light) with the two recent Frostval sets, all of which we got in January of this year. Hopefully we take a break from Bleed after this set though, since we've been getting a lot of Bleed support for the past few years.

+1 to Grace's question about Bleed getting the Panic treatment with separate instances.

    1stClassGenesis -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (7/3/2025 0:13:39)

A tad out of scope, but while the devs work on Dire Lean, it is my hope that they tackle the minor adjustments to FO, FD and SC leans to account for the fact that mob's output is 140% Melee.

JhyShy -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/3/2025 5:35:55)

It would be cool if the misc also protected against light

I have to ask, will the spell and second pet idea be posted here?

Zeldax -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/3/2025 6:09:03)

I realized something a little too late since the Donation event is already over, but I'm gonna talk about it anyway. From the preview, it seems that you only get Warforce stacks while using the armor and shield. Meanwhile, the weapons and pet consume Warforce stacks to increase Bleed infliction.

Normally, you wouldn't be using the weapons and pet together with the armor and shield (since they're all Light element), so you probably won't be using the Warforce stacks at all in general situations where you defend well against enemy attacks and then attack with the enemy's weakest resistance. Probably even in boss battles unless you work around having bad defenses or damages (though it does slightly help that the weapons and pet inflict Bleed which is harm element, but not exactly ideal since most enemies have 100% Harm resistance).

Regardless, if you only use the weapon and pet, then you won't have any interaction at all with the set's unique mechanic and they would just end up being regular items that inflict Bleed (which as mentioned before, make the Ranged and Magic weapons compete directly with the Lovestruck weapons). This is in contrast to Ironhoof in which each item at least still lets you use the CM and Crit Lean mechanics, although to a lesser extent than you would with more items of the set.

I would also like to know if the details on the Guest and second pet will be posted here. It's possible that they could also give you Warforce stacks to alleviate what I talked about above, though if they focused solely on that then it would also limit interactions with items outside of the Rubicon Legion set.

Lorekeeper -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 11:25:25)

Extra pet and guest concepts are posted!

wozzen -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 11:58:59)

My only question about the second pet and guest: if you aren't in the armor, how does the pet's/guest's War Force generation work? Does it still apply if you aren't in the Legate armor, or does War Force only work in the armor? Asking because the description for War Force at the top of the concept post says "while in the armor".

Other than that question, I like the design idea for them. The first pet generates bleed and can spend stacks of WF for more potent bleed, where the 2nd pet and the guest can not only spend bleed for WF generation, but has a bit more versatile utility with the Light/Dark element seeking; an example would be fighting a Dark monster and using the set weapon and the 2nd pet to both deal good Light damage and generate WF (assuming it works outside of the set armor) while still getting the most out of a dark armor and shield or fighting a Light monster and using a dark weapon that bleeds so the pet ele-seeks to deal dark damage while spending that bleed to generate extra WF for the Legate armor.

Lorekeeper -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 12:08:38)

The only part of War Force that's meant to be exclusive to the armor is the damage reduction. If that's undesirable or the drawback would only yield a negligible gain, it can be walked back.

wozzen -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 12:19:46)

So the Main Stat increase will still function when not in the Legate armor? If so, then I honestly think it's fine as-is. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

Zeldax -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 12:52:05)

I'm happy with the changes so far. Personally I'd prefer if the Echo pet/guest remained as Bleed Eaters to generate War Force Stacks because otherwise you won't be getting much stacks unless you're also using the shield and/or armor.

I'd also like to know if the Bleed from the weapons is inflicted per hit. Hopefully the numbers of the set don't disappoint since I'm liking the overall mechanics.

LUPUL LUNATIC -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 14:28:08)

    quote:

Me as well, since as Flincher Pet or Ghosthound Pet, eating a status and converting it into something else does NOT require CHA. It would be a very nice addition to the set since the 1st Pet does require CHA to inflict Bleed so 2nd Pet being more for non-CHA players (obvious combo with the weapons) is very welcomed!

JhyShy -> RE: =AQ= PREVIEW: Rubicon Legion Legate Concept (8/12/2025 17:10:54)

I am really loving the new pet and guest, I personally prefer it generically generating stacks without the bleed

I am also really loving the new changes, especially the weapon skill being locked to light

I'd personally prefer having the damage reduction be in effect whether in or out the armor, but I can understand why it'd only be exclusive to the armor

    Overall I love the set
