I love the Necrotic Sword of Doom special, and it was always such a fun and exciting surprise to see it activate across the various battles of a quest. But with the on-attack specials being changed years ago, I never get to see it at all anymore, unless I deliberately drag battles out for 10 entire turns! Even specials with much shorter cooldowns will rarely manage to be activated at all, outside of really beefy bosses, where as before I could at least get to see them by throwing in a default attack every now and then. It has pretty much entirely killed my interest in playing the game at all.

Is there any way to disable this horrendous feature?

Random on-attack specials as a feature is now rare.

Yeah maybe clicking Life Carve 6 times is your fault.

Well... it helped validate my sense of despair in not being able to figure it out for myself.
I had just hoped I was missing something in the interface, as it's very confusing from since I last played. Very sad this was not the case.

Thanks for clarifying though. Your help was most appreciated, despite the bad news.

And the incorrect assumption is yours. Outside of farming, where speeding through a quest is preferential, I woud hardly ever use Life Carve, and often I would even use different classes altogether. Most fights just don't last long enough for me to ever see the beloved special, outside of monsters with very high HP. I actually liked just getting to see the special against both normal enemies AND bosses alike, but now I almost never see it, and when I do, only against the latter.

Lmfao *the* Ninjaty is STILL around?

Anyways max out your LUK, because it reduces the cooldown of trinkets and on-demand specials by 1 for every 50 LUK, capped at -4 CD at 200 LUK.
