Starless Night: Eternal Sentinel
Hey there, heroes!

This week, the Starless Night story continues! As the stars blink out and a chill wind covers Lore, all you can do is trust the strange voice echoing in your head...

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/2025-12-19-EternalSentinelDN.png[/image]

But where is it leading you? ...And to whom?

Although originally planned to be a two-week event, this second part ended up being a bit more than we could handle in one week! As a result, the finale of the Starless Night AQW crossover will be next week!

The next quest in this month's Frostval quest line is here: Eternal Sentinel! Check it out in the Book of Lore!

Also this week, we're celebrating the birthdays of Dove, Dracelix, and Darkon!

Special Dragon Coin cosmetic items are available in the Book of Lore to celebrate! New items will be arriving soon, as well!

And that's all for this week!

New 3DBD Items and More!
Hey there, heroes!

Small Monday update here, with new 3DBD items, and more!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/promo-3dbd2025dn.png[/image]

The Lightforged, Unnecessarily Ornate, and Astravian Claibrun cosmetic weapons are now available from the 3DBD shop for 400 DCs each!

They'll only stick around until next week's release before they leave for a year, so get them while you can!

There have also been a number of small updates for story cohesions.
  • Removed Invite Dragon button from Twilly in Book 1 Falconreach.
  • Fixed an issue where the ! in "Sepulchure's Flying Fortress" was skipped over.
  • Removed incorrect reference to "Ash Alteon" in the diary in "Castle Nostromo".
  • Alteon no longer refers to the Queen as "Lynaria" in "Heroes". The queen is unnamed.
And that's all for today! The AQW crossover finale is coming later this week!

Oh, huh! Happy birthdays!

anyone got tips for facing the (boss?) at the end of enternal sentinel? like, avoidance doesn't work cuz of his high boost, and single hit stuns aren't very reliable
(minor nitpick but i kinda wish losing didn't deposit you back at, before the cutscene)

[havent tried bringing 5 potions into the fight yet though]

ShadowHunter utilizing Gun combo should add an additional layer of survivability apart from 5 potions, even for NDA (only tested a triple Gun combo. Haven't assessed the effects of a 2 Gun, 1 Sword approach). And bring a Fire weapon alongside a Fire-elementalized Dragon for sanity's sake, ideally a 600 pt Dragon with 100 points assigned to MIS, with the remaining 500 discretionary distributions to FIT, MAG, and PROT.

Not sure what class you're using, but after beating it (and being mildly spoiled), my biggest advice is focus on the Glacial Troll. He hits WAY harder than anything else on the field. And while it's unreliable, Stunning him feels almost necessary to win.

If you don't get the stun, then just don't waste your potions and use the heal spot before going back in. If you really DPS him down you can minimize just how many turns you have to survive his massive damage output, because that's the real threat in this encounter.

After that, it's just a matter of mopping up the two blades. You can't really do much to them for the first two turns, but they don't do THAT much, so you should be fine. This is ultimately a fight between you and the big guy, so just prioritize your best skill rotation and hope for the best.

I also main Shadow Hunter, so I do
spoiler:

Enhanced Beastbane, Sword Combo x2, Enhanced Revenantbane, Enhanced Shadowbane, Sword Combo (final), Enhanced Mortalbane, Prey Seeker, Focused Hunt, Enhanced Evilsbane, Finisher, and then another Evilsbane.
That gives you enough time to get Sword Combo going before he starts swinging, and then I'm able to fit in the damage and accuracy debuffs so I can survive a bit longer. If you're running a Mischief Dragon, then you can rely on their stun to hopefully do Mortalbane first so you can get the most out of Shadowbane.

I feel like most classes probably have something similar they can do. get your stun out, start getting set up, do whatever damage reduction you can do, and then do as much damage as you can.

That's my understanding of things so far, so good luck!

EDIT: Just replayed it to be sure. It was close, but I managed to do it potionless. I went for sooner burst damage because I was afraid of fitting in Mortalbane when he was almost down anyway, but it's definitely doable. I came REAL close to dying even with the stun, but if I can manage it without using potions, then it's definitely possible. Just take the fight super seriously and know who your main priority is here.

^I would suggest that you improve your profiling skills before you make any assist attempts. If you had checked their previous inquiring habits, you will find a pattern of NDA assists questions. The Sword combo is only feasible for DAs in this case because its explosive nature is heavily complemented by Bane skills, which DA holders have access to whereas NDAs do not. Therefore, it is much safer to recommend having to use the Gun combo in the realistic scenario that the reduced burst potential is at least offset with the Deathproof provided by Shining Barrier.

Fair enough. I've just been DA for so long, I forgot you even need it for skill unlocks.

A lot of these newer fights feel so tightly designed that playing without a Dragon Amulet must really suck after a bit. You really don't have a ton of room for unoptimal gameplay.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: Friday, December 19th Design Notes: Starless Night: Eternal Sentinel (12/26/2025 1:36:59)

More like combat released with near the end of Book 3 chronology (approximately the Proclamation arc at the earliest) in mind has the power standards such that Reimagined classes now feel like when they were updated during former dev Ash's time. That is, it can take a bit of time outside of power-oriented classes to crush mob fights.

For these particular Frostval quests, you can consider it a gift to detox from the nigh-immortal Paladin and (re-)expand your skillsets for offensive classes. While I did recommend SH because it does not rely on Artifact, its midrange damage (for me to blitz the mobs, I have to use its extra attack skill to eke out any explosivity possible while charging Sword) means it does have to be complemented somewhat by Inn-grade gear to stabilize both in power and survivability. That triple Gun combo test run I did? I was using BiS All resist featuring a max level Great Dragon's Claw with the only handicap that my char's stat build is 130 STR/INT, 100 WIS, 85 END (and forgot to untrain my Arachnalchemy using an extended HoT configuration, but it was barely consequential). I was still cornered that I used 1 of 2 HP pots I had at that time.

However, I redid the quest, this time with BMSW (SW with the Mastery passive unlocked and the Aventail equipped) using the same stat configuration, and the results were far more stable. Regardless if it was BiS All resist or my own offensive loadout that only contains 26 All resist, the boss was practically slaughtered one-sidedly without chugging a potion (those who do follow the 45 WIS construct might have to down 1 MP pot, but it is negligible). The reason why I did not start off with this particular class despite its superior damage potential is because of its Artifact. But if you have it, the run is much smoother despite the same handicap of SH that it is reduced to a brute without a DA.

I could try to do a Techno run NDA-esque (I did clear that quest with Techno DA), but not really up to it. Something about it being quite aversive to healing pads that also patch up MP bars, so you might waste chugging spare HP pots after getting one too many potshots from the mobs.

(honestly, I wanted to try my next best guess of technomancer, with that suggestion you gave as the fallback)

But yeah turns out technomancer is really good

200+ bonus is good for the sword guys

and the multi hit stun is good for the goblin

also even if you go into the fight even on fuller amounts of mana, the 4 free turns, since the first hit from the, troll doesn't have the bonus, and you can space out your stuns so that it runs out of buff for its next hit, is a decent amount of time to setup + burn through your mana and nuke it

followup observation: i've never noticed Twig in this pfp has a gun, until like, now, Nice.
