Arena at the Edge of Time: The Kinnaran Accord
Hey there, heroes!

This week, a new board has appeared at the Arena at the Edge of Time: Tales of the Wastes!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/2026-02-06-Wastes1DN.png[/image]

From the chaotic and ever-shifting Elemental Wastes come stories and histories unknown to the Lore beyond! But the Wastes and Lore are ever interconnected in so many tiny ways, who knows what you might discover!

This time, from the far off past of the Wastes, take on Kinnar, the Unifier of the Wind Plain, and his mentor, the Old Man of the Wastes. If you can defeat them both, you'll earn a weapon with an interesting new on-hit special! Every third hit with it slotted, your attacks will gain +100 Crit, but otherwise, you'll have -100 Crit.

If you have what it takes, or are interested in their story, head over to the Inn at the Edge of Time to face them!

Also this week, a new Ferbuary seasonal weapon has arrived!

Kinnar's lance, Galestrike, is available for 300 Dragon Coins from the February seasonal specials shop! Also, other February seasonal items have returned. Check them all out in the Book of Lore!

And that's all for this week!

I really wish we'd have more old characters and fewer new ones, especially because we're unlikely to even see these dudes in the story.

Also, Old Man should preferably be in front of Kinnar, not the back. Because of his color scheme blending in with the background and because Kinnar is so huge (thus obscuring Old Man), it's a bit hard to actually see him.

Edit: Decently good fight, if a tad bit on the easier side. Reward seems super niche, and bringing back MP as a mechanic for bosses is fun.

I would digress that the duo is leaning near or on a Difficulty 3 rating. Using the nuclear option class that is Paladin on the solos, the results were:
  • Kinnar is a fairly typical fight. Combined with my dragon's default 200 PROT/MAG/FIT configuration, the Mana Barrier gimmick, while it did its job to slow down the fight, was almost within a single Radiance level's worth of assault (transitioning from Radiance 1 to most of Radiance 2) without having to deplete Inner Light for Smites to overcome and resume HP destruction. Otherwise, there was no danger of losing the solo.
  • Old Man is something to force me to use Salvation at some point when most solo confrontations do not even make me. Not to mention his one-turn on-hit ailment invincibility effects disrupts standard tempos for the complacent who do not utilize Game Logs or on-hover status screens (I do use both features actively even before the fight. Had the glaring suspicion that this boss will exploit my susceptibility to fog of war).
In a duo state... well, my one serious BDL run lost brutally because of extra moving parts (mechanics) that Old Man has (was open to attack to Old Man's strongest nuke. Got me, "Oh, so that's how Grand Assassin candidates feel when they get offed by Malak al-Mawt: Angel of the Evening Bell.") after I dared the challenge by following the Endgame Wiki's tips for possibly focusing on the aforementioned foe against my instincts. It was only after I took a plunge with BMSW (only used it on ARRGH) with an odd setup (100 INT, 100 WIS, 200 END, 45 CHA) that I managed to eke out a win whilst doing a Kinnar-first approach.

As per the reward itself, yeah, doesn't have use to people who stay in Doomed Mode for extended periods. Otherwise, I could use it to restrain my power to make Normal Mode a little bit interesting. Practicals speaking, the Crit control mechanic it introduces can help more "roleplayer" players on the rare instance that they encounter an enemy with anti-Crit mechanic (so far in story mode, only Twisted Amalgam comes to mind) without having to Paladin their way. Unless of course the class concerned is dependent on crits.

This is another good fight, I quite liked Old Man and appreciated the visual storytelling of him using DL moves (and then having an extra line of dialogue if you defeat him with DragonLord). Love me some telegraphed RNG splits.
I think the horse has way too much HP though; he's completely non-threatening and you'll never die to him after Old Man is defeated, but he still takes a million years to slog through. Low difficulty after the first guy dies is an issue with many duos, but it's especially a pointless slog here with the mana shield effectively either doubling his HP or making him undamagable for half his rotation. You could try to alleviate the time sink element by focusing the horse down before the old man, but seeing as the old man can kill you and the horse can't this just seems like playing the fight wrong (lower win%). I also wish the mana shield mechanic had some way to display how much damage is being dealt, for the sake of visual clarity, instead of just relying on the log, but it was said on release night that this isn't easily done and I understand that.
Overall I quite liked this fight, the visual and storytelling elements were both excellent and Old Man was very fun to fight.

This is both a new version of an old monster and something that's very obviously going to be a plot point in Book 4.

Tbh I did think about the OMoTM but assumed these were just two different dudes, the special quote against DragonLord wasn't obvious to me because I didn't attempt the challenge with any other class yet, but that's a really cool attention to detail then.

But yeah, cool fight but wish Old Man was easier to see, since, again, he's hidden behind Kinnar and blends into the background.
