2)Press fill colour and colour everywhere you can do.

3)Use eraser for little places.

The bucket tool is not always so useable.
In a background that have many colors and bushes, this could really take too long to do.

Try using the free cut tool in paint (the one next to the striped rectangle) to cut most of the background and then use the paint bucket and brushes.

I'm not very comfortable using the free cut tool myself, Lightning. At least my version of Paint stubbornly refuses to show me what part of the pic precisely I have selected, but only marks a rectangle around the edges of the selected portion. It's probably not a big deal but apparently it's enough to make me not want to use it. ^_^

And nice, clear tut, Kamageddon. I was actually going to put together a list of Paint tutorials for the time of the next DF screenshot contest, as there usually are a lot of beginners who want to enter, yet literally need to learn how to find MS Paint on their computer first, let alone anything else. . Do you mind if I put your tut on that list?

Usually I just use paint and I cut my character out pixel by pixel, takes time but worth it.

Good tut :P

@Ancient: When looking at the shot you want press 'Print Screen' on your keyboard. Normally it is the next button right of F12. Then open paint and click paste.
