A specialized mecha which is not OP is useless to any customizer.
Specialization can be achieved through customization, a specialized build would be far too OP to be released as an all defaults mecha. Thus, any specialized mecha would have to be weaker (as in, weaker specials) to combat that. That mecha would be useless to anyone who could customize to achieve the same result but better, thus, it would be UP. Or, it would be equal to the customized builds, and OP. OR, it would have one weapon better than any other, and if the rest of the mecha complemented that, OP, otherwise, UP.
...
Wait a minute, now I just confused myself.

I think I just said that there was no such thing as a balanced mecha.

Wait, but there isn't, besides nonrares, which are instantly excluded from balance, since either they are nonrare, and not as powerful as rares, or good permanent additions that the game needs.
But that says there should be no more rares.
But then everyone would complain about the lack of rares.

*hits self* the forums are unpleasable, I knew that.
If there is a mecha every month, then the people who are unpleased will be able to get what they want next month, or at least within a few months. No matter how much thought is given to a mecha, someone will say it is either UP or OP, other people will just not like it, and there will be a lot of people who are not happy with the mecha.
If there is a mecha every month: Wait till next month
If they are rare (as in, long time in between them): Too bad.
Thus, every month.

Every 2 months would be OK if there were no automorphs, mecha that are unspecialized/specialized in power but not as good as other mecha specialized in power, which not many people like.

The SCMMs do take a lot of time. We started the next mech already but it's not even done being put into Flash yet. Once it is, it needs animating, coloring, programming, and balancing. The SCMM do take an awful lot of time unfortunately though they are still fun.

I urgently insist that they are NOT fun anymore. All they do nowadays is leech away the majority of MQ efforts and time, thereby causing most - if not all - of the "stuff" from the last few pages.

They are fun, for most SCs.

In my opinion, and though it may differ from yours, MQ is no longer dying. MQ is dead. Its tombstone is a large, looming, new release of another AE MMO. The last time AE developed a new MMO, it pulled first Artix, then Warlic, his successor, away from MQ development, and the change was, to put it kindly, noticeable. With the advent of a new MMO, I have no doubt that Maegwyn and possssibly Korin will be drawn away from MQ as well. And what then? I give MQ six months after the release of "HeroPeak" or whatever the new game is going to be called. It will then have it's storyline quickly finished in a a short cutscene, the level cap will be raised to the maximum, and the rest of the MQ staff will be moved over to work on the new MMO. MQ will become the first static game AE has made. But hey, I only give this 3:2 odds, it might not happen.

I don't think they will be able to justify pulling Korin away from MQ.

Artix and Warlic had both worked on different games as well as MQ, korin has never even been mentioned in any other game, I don't think they will pull anyone else.

Well, you know, not everyone who works on a game has an NPC in it, stealthwings. As for the 'justification': they don't need any. AE has been slowly phasing MQ out, and we all know it, even if we don't want to believe it. MQ was Artix's brainchild: he abandoned it for AQW, and placed Warlic in hs stead. Then, he pulled Warlic away from MQ as well, and replaced him with Mae and Korin. Now, this is not meant to be a slight against Mae or Korin: they have done the best to bite the bullet and play the cards they were dealt, but we all know that neither of them had the vast practical knowledge and experience with AE games that Warlic or Artix have.

Most people who work on a game get mentioned in the DNs. The only time Korin and Maegwyn have been mentioned has been when the other games DNs were talking about MQ.

And I think that they should just send warlic back to MQ. As you said, he had a lot of experience with AE games in general.

You mean you think they should send team members AWAY from AQW? HAH. THAT's never going to happen, unless a gold mine opens up in the basement of the Secret lab and Artix decides that he'd be making more money by them mining the gold then by developing AQW.

I doubt they will pull Korin since he is the head of MQ right now, i dont think he will even accept to go to the new MMO game which i think is a big mistake that AE are doing, BUT they could take the staff that we dont know yet.

Anyway i dont even consider buying the new mecha slots when they get released, it seems rather useless since the game is getting boring and nothing really getting into the main story, while the story focus on the Shadowscythe the last 2 planets had nothing to do with them, which is pretty stupid looking at how they are taking over all the planets as stated.

Also like i said dropping the SCMM will give the staff MUCH more time to work on the story instead of a stupid OP mecha that removes the fun from the game, they were fun at the beginning but after few other mechas it got boring as they have the same specials and get some of the old SCMM looks, dropping it and working for something that is perm for the SCs would be way better and even more people would upgrade, a SC mecha that scales to lvl 100 (not as good as the promo mechas) would be good, and they would upgrade it whenever its UP, and/or working on a shop for SCs that sells equipment and get more stuffs every 3-4 months, that way you could actually customize (something must happen in the game) and have bonus for SCs, and in the same time we get a better storyline and releases.

quote:

I've read bits and pieces so far. What's this about a gap between levels 15 and 18? Is this mechs or items? Or both?

Lvl 15 : House Mechas and Geektron
Lvl 16 : SWAT Defender and Wrangler
Lvl 17 : Hospital Mechas
Lvl 18 : Ghost Hunting Mecha

These are the mecahs that arent rare from lvl 15-18, all are outdated and UP, not sure about equipments tho but i think its the same thing.

Geez if all you people hate mechquest so much then stop complaining just don't play anymore
I think MechQuest isn't dying it nor it is dead it's doing fine.
And why does everybody say stop the SCMMs?
I think lots of people that say MQ is dying just can't be patient.
I luv MQ but almost everybody else doesn't.

If everyone hates something about a game he should quit it ? IMO thats stupid, without the customers opinion the game will never be good, right now the staff need to know what the customers want, and if everyone quit the game then who else would play it ? just means its gonna be dead instead of dying.

Yep. 2 people make MQ. Everything you see in the game, was made by 2 people. /sarcasm

Lots of people are working on it. It doesn't have as many people as the other games, but it has more than 2.

*These two, to my knowledge, are primarily DF Team, but do work on MQ every now and again.

Someone said all of these people earlier, I think that there are even more.

I don't hate MQ. I love MQ. MQ used to be my favorite AE game, before the massive frag-up with qualifying for char's quests, where after two months worth of waiting for the quest guider, it informed me that I need to go do a quest somewhere in the Lagos chanin that I couldn't find. I completed the bloody Lagos chain entirely and finished the war, back when it came out. When the progress board told me I hadn't, I decided 'frag this' and quit on MQ. You can bet that if Warlic or Artix were in charge of MQ, the problem wouldn't have taken two months to fix, and that it would remember that I had already finished that quest.

Strange, I finished the entire lagos chain long ago, and it never told me I needed to complete it again.

And you quit MQ, then why are you posting?

For the gaps, it's everything. :P
I've been there 9 times, done it 9 times. Each time I usually pulled through with the help of rare mecha.
The only decent mecha in there is the Valkyrie, lvl 17, and there are no weapons to help get rid of the general suckiness of all the other mecha available--and even if there were, a couple don't have bodies or just suck too badly to be helped anyways.

@stealthwings
IMO, even if you don't play the game anymore, you ought to be able to offer an opinion. :P
I posted in AQW's "Forgotten Promises", for example.

MQ is fun.
However, if you take a look at things, you do have to say it's worse off than DF, AQW and AQ (don't really play any of them anymore, but from what I've seen or heard), who release great storylines, often with excellent cutscenes, and a hero who doesn't give you the feel of bystander.
We all love MQ. Or at least, we all feel that it could be much better than it is now. ;)

I think it's really a matter of team size. MQ currently has the smallest team working on it. Most of its team got dragged away to WF and AQW. J6 and Warlic are a couple of examples. I think J6 might help out a little, but I'm not sure. Small team=small releases=MQ. It used to be big team=big releases=MQ, but people got pulled from MQ after everyone went to AQW.

@stealth
Tried it.
It was good the first time I tried it.
Then when I used one of my many other characters and tried to use it again, I found myself being let down over and over, especially since the activation rates weren't so hot; if I didn't manage to get the BA special on, I would find myself in a bad position, and oftentimes I'd need the special twice or more in the same battle, which didn't help my win rates.
Another example of Power Creep.

@Hellsoarer
Lots of people. Go on PvP and go see all the Nubertrons. 5 of them are mine, characters I haven't trained yet, but the million or more others are all people who apparently didn't like MQ enough to continue.

Is it? Never went onto PvP in DF.

Either way, Power Creep is another issue, I think. :P
Many of my characters have found themselves in sticky situations where they are trapped in a bad situation with no money due to a mecha that used to be good, but now is just a waste of credits--and the drain they put on my funds usually ends up in them being stuck until I spy a rare mecha and farm like mad to break out of the problem.
