Cinderella
Always a Princess

There are several solutions to the issue at hand, and each solution has its own problems. One solution is to eliminate name change entirely. I think that would result in more problems than it would solve. And it does not prevent people from making a new character for their impersonations. Another one is to make name change even pricier, to prevent people from abusing it, but that would only result in players claiming that we are greedy and just after their money. And it doesn't solve the problem of people making new characters. Another solution is to give everybody the privileges of staff names so that nobody can use a similar name ever. There are several huge problems with that- many characters have similar names but thought of them independently (like variations on Assassin, Ninja, etc.) and there's already a huge portion of the player base who complain that "some level 1 n00b has the name I want!" and we do name sweeps very infrequently. This would be a troll magnet. Another solution would be to give only famous players staff name privileges, which then begs the question: "who's famous enough for protection?" because, we do have to draw the line somewhere. That wouldn't have even helped MirageD because the impersonator was using a lower-case L to look like a capital "I". The policy is, that unless someone is harassing you (which includes direct impersonation), and/or scamming with your name, they are not technically in violation of the rules. It's not against the rules to have a similar name to another player.
