I think most of us artists have tried "copying" a particular artist whose art styles you are really fond of, and perhaps in the future would aspire to be just like him/her. Then there are some, who though would either prefer to use their own original style, their works are greatly influenced by a particular figure.

I myself would probably lean more on the latter. In my highschool days, there I accidentally stumbled into Fate/Stay Night and it was through that franchise that I've known the lead art designer of Type-Moon, Takeuchi Takashi. I was so drawn to his use of simple anatomy but is complemented with rather detailed clothing designs. Even as far as 2011, his designs are still one of the most iconic and lovable IMO as it was a decade ago. Though he frequently suffers from having his character designs looking exactly the same, I could care less.

My character, Jeanne herself, is inspired and based off one of Kinoko Nasu's most prominent characters (designed by Takeuchi): Saber

Well, to be honest, I like to think outside the box and try to use my own style of art (though I think I may be accidentally "copying" someone else's style of art since I'm practicing out of a book :P), and I've gotta say, it's not the easiest thing to do.

Once I feel like I'm ready, my character will be a CIA agent I came up with named Niel

I would prabably not fit in either of those groups as I neither have an artist nor figure I try to recreate. I generally try to be original in my style of art, however, I usually find that my style ends up consistantly changing (however slightly). Prabably due to the fact that I don't have a single artist or style I try to recreate, I end up taking influenced from all sources and makes my art style a scrambled up mess of different styles from different sources. There have been times where I would randomly get insperation from a book or a game or a picture, or a movie etc which either works with my style in creating the picture or ends up a mess.

Though I do not exactly 'copy' the style of other game designers (as it's often obvious that something is not my own idea and is often frowned upon in the game designing community) I believe that in order to be successful in gaming, you can't copy something that's been worn down to generic genres and play styles. I do use other's games as inspiration for thinking outside of the box. I'll usually take one well established game and morph it into something not quite recognizably similar, but still has some of the same basic elements. One programmer that I am particularly fond of is jmtb02. He always tries to do something wacky that's never been done before. His games are usually hit or miss, but I like how he takes risks and always does something different.

Well.... I can't say NO, but I won't say Yes, either. Nowadays with GIMP, it's just... me doing regular, daily things. Then once some inspiration hits me, I'll poke around and go make what I have in mind, the best I can. But long ago, in the distant past... of 2010. :P I sort of did... (during the time I was being taught, and a little while afterwards also.) But as I already stated... nowadays I just do things my own way, doing whatever I can, sometimes just random stuff, to make the final piece look nice. Sometimes I still do use other forms of art, or an artist or two as my inspiration but not often... just when there's a block. Sometimes I'll look at past stuff, be it mine or something requested, just lookin' and today, that's really the closest I get to using ones own style as inspiration.

When I first started "seriously" drawing, all I did was copy a typical anime-ish style. Eventually, as I began to like anime less and less my brother and father noted how my drawings were always "too Yugioh" in my dad's words. So I tried to change it to a bit more western style. not sure if I accomplished that but...whatever.
Anyways, later I began to gain greeeat interest in Samurai Jack, so I could consider it's creator a bit of an inspirer. My current art style doesn't really show it, but future ones (for a designated story of course) will probably bear a bit more of that style.

Same, but I can't help still giving off an anime-esque vibe on my faces, it's something I'm trying to improve on though...

Well it is the art style most copied nowadays and the easiest one mimic at that, to such a point that drawing in anime-esque somehow feels like doing a parody or something.

I take it that you want something akin to Blizzard's style?

I'd say most artists don't try to copy someone. They might try to make something similar to someone else, but its all for the sake of knowledge. If you know how one person does their art, then you can pick what you like about theirs, and incorporate it into your art. I can't say that I'm enough of an artist to really draw influence from anyone. I hope to be in a ska band one day and draw influence from Streetlight Manifesto, but that's the future. I guess for my GIMP work, my influence comes from my C&C on my discussion and myself. Talion has helped me a lot, too.

I think that's part of the problem, since I drew like that so much it's become a habit.

Blizzard? The only Blizzard I know of is the WoW maker people, not sure if that's who you meant or not.
I just want a more "realistic" style. Where the people actually look like people, not "anime" ish or "cartoony" just, people.

Yes, Blizzard.

They are known for their style of using realistic anatomy while incorporating it in the fantasy genre. Though they aren't the pioneers of this, they are pretty much known for it. But I like they way they made artistic concepts better in Diablo than in Warcraft. The DoTA wallpapers and loading screens are pretty impressive, however. This style is also the good step if you want to take up realism in that you get more motivated in drawing than simply tracing or sketching random scenery or people.

Ah yes, checked out some of that, that's closer to what I want yes. As far as a hand-drawn example, Laken had a pretty good normal human featured face for his drawings.

I feel that my art is heavily influenced by Disney and Doraemon. However, I think that my current style is a very grotesque version of anime or manga style. Not to mention the fact I tend to use bright colors in my work.

I'm mostly self taught because my art teacher only did painting at school until I got to high school, so I've mostly had anime eyes and facial structure whilst the body structure has been influenced by concept art I've looked at as well as staring at the AQW Template for such a long time when I was still making armors. Nowadays I mostly just incorporate anything I like into my style.

For inspiration, well surfing on sites like Kotaku that have frequent concept art articles of different styles is enough for me.

My situation was difficult. I had givin up on art and had artist block badly for many years. Reality killed my what do i wana say, ability to create somthing from imagination. So when i started playing AQW and found out about AE's artist on Twitter i starting getting into how awesome it was to see how they do things day by day. And, actually talk with other artist. So my major influences is deffinetly DagetheEvil, Miltonius, and Mennace. I also am a fan of ToddMcFarlene who did the Spawn comic book. Louis Royo and his paintings and, H.R. Giger with his disturbing creations. I love the " In your face" way these artists do there works. Also I like Xusha's works its a very different style that i cant do so i appriciate it more.
