I actually think the opposite about Sparticus, feels like it's seriously been dumbed down for the masses. I loved the Rome series and it has many similarities, except Rome, for the most part, felt believable. their were no scenes that were put in just for the hell of it. whereas Sparticus likes to focus on peasants breasts bouncing up and down every time theirs an arena fight and all the dangling genitalia scene seem forced, like we are supposed to be laughing along with them. the effects are similar to 300, presumably some of the same people involved but they are usually stupidly over the top and look cartoony. I love the show, I've watched series 1, the Gannicus series and all the episodes from the 2nd series out so far. but like you said, I'm one of those who doesnt watch for the acting or storyline [which is bad] and the comedic timing of everyone in Everybody loves Raymond is spot on [except his brother, who is wooden as they come]
