So- Explosive bombs can be planted on the vault doors to damage. The surrounding walls, ceiling, and floor are not disrupted by the shockwave. That is a very dense, igneous rock. Surely, the drills used were large and as hard as diamond... possibly as large as buses. Drilling is not done underground without proper planning. Exile and Legion alike must have mapped out safe zones and known the limits of the rock. Mining must have been done to give the walls at least a thickness of 1m. That is not to say that the miners excavated as much space as possible, though. Forget digging next to the vault doors... any person's largest challenge would have to be the defense system... as already stated here by someone earlier. What prevents us the soldiers and miners from breaching the vaults is the threat of attack from being in close proximity to the vault doors; preventing any means of settlement or safe conduct whether it be taking a cutting tool up to the vault door or even simply passing by. The greatest priority is disabling the turrets before taking any further action. EMP technology is recommended; overload the machines' circuitry with a spike of electric/plasmatic energy and the network of wires stops itself.
