& Yeah, I noticed right after when the AI was moving too fast. I was like :(

Do you find the ice storm trainee in the nightmare dungeon anywhere or must you beat the boss storm knight to get the squire?

Yes you do have to beat the boss, but he's getting nerfed this weekend so just wait until it's do-able.
