Quick post because Undead Twilly Board came out:

Basic premise: the issue is that rainbow twilly surfboard has random swapping elements, so it deals greater damage, so when it takes a damage penalty to have an eleshield, it's losing more damage but not gaining any extra eleshield from it.
Normal Rainbow Twilly Board
Undead Twilly Board

In short, the rainbow version should receive a 132/109x power multiplier on its eleshield, while the magic dark one should stay the same (assuming it pays 25% melee and not 25% magic damage) It's not going from 105% melee to 75% melee (counting MC), it's going from 105x132/109 (~127% melee) to 75x132/109 (~90.1% melee)

Balance stuff:

Rainbow Twilly board right now: 25% melee in damage + 5% melee in MC = 30% melee total. 30%/1.4 for monster turn being 140% melee / .85 for monster missing 15% of the time = 25.21 (I think 0 Proc bonus is included here to get 26% or something, or rounding)

Rainbow Twilly board how it should be: (25% melee in damage + 5% melee in MC) x 132/109 for 8 element random damage = 36.3% melee total. 36.3%/1.4 for monster turn being 140% melee / .85 for monster missing 15% of the time = 30.52 (If including the 1.08 0 Proc bonus damage lost, then 32.97 instead)

Please feel free to let me know if there are any issues with these calculations. This missing 8 element bonus from items that take damage penalties is common, but I figure since a clone just came out may as well fix this one.

Weapon attacks take -25% damage. If you attack with it, you gain Element Shield (-26% damage, 1 turn, all elements).

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, it appears that the random element bonus (*132/109) is already being applied to the Elemental Shield from the Rainbow Twilly Surfboard. The weapon pays 25% damage + 5% MC. Therefore, 30/1.4*132/109 ~=~ 26%. This lines up with the Info Subs post.

While monster accuracy is typically included in the above calculation, I think you may have assumed that there is a hit check for the Elemental Shield effect. This does not seem to be the case. Based on some testing, the Elemental Shield activates so long as the player attacks, regardless of hits connected. As a result, the /0.85 that you reference in your post gets cancelled out by an auto-hit penalty (*0.85).

Of course, this means that the Elemental Shield from the Undead Rainbow Twilly Surfboard is actually stronger than it should be.

This explains why it didn't have an autohit penalty I could find from the numbers that I thought it should've had from using it in game. Good catch, thank you for the correction.
