Constructively Friendly!

The phrasing in books may need to be translated for different English-speaking countries. One author said on the topic:
quote:

My agent rang me up and asked what "on the back foot" meant. I was shocked to the core. Apparently, this was originally an Australian cricket phrase and holds no meaning in the USA.

Having looked into it a bit further, it seems translations are fairly common occurences.

What 'local' phrases do you know of, and to which country/countries do they apply?

"Rez time" holds no meaning to anyone who has not lived on a Native American reservation. It's jokingly said, when people are late, that "they're running on Rez time," but out-of-towners don't get it. But I know those who have lived on reservations other than Navajo know it (books are awesome that way ^_^), so it's not like it's restricted to where I live.
