Welcome one and all! The Role Playing Academy has been undergoing some changes as of late. A mix of a facelift of some older aspects and a change of direction, so I would like to take a moment to explain what has happened and introduce a new mission statement for the RPA itself. The Role Playing Academy is meant to be a place of collective learning, where anyone and everyone can come to improve and refine those skills specific to our craft. One of the big changes already took place months ago, removing the "RPA Process" as a mandatory hurdle for folks to participate on the main RP board, but the changes go much deeper than that. The process hadn't just lost its need, but it also has proven to be outdated and frankly, after losing its required status it has proven unappealing and underutilized. In an effort to address these issues, the new Dreamtime Proving Grounds has been introduced to replace the old process. It has been designed to be more flexible, allow greater creativity for its participants, and hopefully find more general appeal to complete as an optional thing. The other major change that has been under the hood for awhile now is the reintroduction of Guides to the RPA. I always found Guides to be a useful reference, and as part of a place of learning, it makes sense that they should be housed here. The first pair of guides, the Beginner's Guide To RP and the Character Background Guide are currently live. Both of these Guides are made in a traditional format and pull heavily from both the styles and content of the guides that used to grace this board years ago. Further guides will be released as time permits, and some of these Guides may be formatted more towards a constructive discussion rather than the traditional format. I find the certain topics like Combat has so many different styles of portrayal that a single unified guide is probably much less useful or much more restrictive to learn from than a discussion that everyone can comment on. These discussion style guides will be fairly easy to notice for their alternative style, but all Guides invite any questions if you need any elaboration or clarification. Sometimes, I write with a bit too much complexity. If something isn't clear in a Guide, then please post and ask! Unlike the Guides themselves, there also used to be the occasional utility thread back in the day when the RPA was originally a place of learning and refinement. Currently, the Bio Critique Central has been brought back for awhile, but it hasn't really been used thus far. I mention it in case it has been overlooked thanks to display settings, the old "falling out of view" issue. Other utility threads may be created based on seeing a need to be satisfied, but I am but a single man. I am open to requests for either utilities you think are needed, or future Guide topics as I get the chance to tackle them. That's all I wanted to update you all with for now. Welcome again to the revised RPA, and I hope you enjoy your visit!
