Prologue

War was the inevitable, some would say. If you spoke to the right person about the case, they might give you a sliver of the truth. Why did the War happen, and why has it not come to an end? Many of the soldiers fighting on the frontline have only known a world of war. Their fathers have only known a world of war, and their fathers, and their fathers, and their fathers. It is often difficult to pinpoint how long ago the War took place because any documents predating the war have been either lost to time or destroyed. But one thing is for certain, every living being understands who the combatants are. On one side is the Kingdom of Greenguard, heralded by the impudent Dinkelheim Slugwrath. His dynasty is on the verge of collapse currently, but it does not mean that he is willing to lose it to the opposing side. Said opposing side is spearheaded by an ambitious group called the Reliquary. Its current leader, a once simple farm boy named Alden, has risen to the top to lead the final battle. The final pieces were coming together, and the lands were ready to be relinquished of being soaked in the blood of millions. After what seemed an eternity, the Reliquary advanced onto Swordhaven for the final battle. Although Dinkelheim held out as long as he could, the ambitious Alden pushed his soldiers through the siege and stormed Swordhaven. Alden and Dinkelheim battled fiercely, as the old king of Swordhaven wielded terrible powers of ancient ages past. It was not enough, and Alden slew the king and ushered in a new age into the world. All was at peace, and a new chapter could begin. The last remnants of the Slugwrath dynasty were either put to the sword or had escaped during the siege. Alden, now crowned King Alteon, decided that it was best to leave it be and begin ruling as he should.
It would come to haunt him many decades later, as that one decision threw the continent into another great war. This one, it seems, would be the one to determine the fate of all existence.
