Well, I've almost gotten in trouble for using faulty stocks a few times, so I've decided to give some tips on how to tell if a stock is legal to use.

1.) Generally if a stock is an anime-styled drawing, and you've never seen this anime before, or its out of the original style, it was probably made by some dev-art artist, which would make it illegal to use without permission of said artist.

2.) If the stock is a photo, it can sometimes be hard to tell; if it is overly artsy, then it is most likely a dev-art photo. Cosplay photos are usually fine to use though, so those should be okay.

3.) If the stock is from a CD-cover it is absolutely okay to use it. A commonly used CD cover is the one from Linkin Park's Meteora.

4.) If it's a picture of a famous person, such as an actor or singer, then it is most likely fine for use. Be warned, though. Some images of actors and actresses may be overly edited, which makes it a separate piece, which means it is not okay to use.

5.) If it is a screenshot from a game, or a game cover, then it is fine to use.

6.) Anything made by big companies are always fine for use.

7.) If the image has some sort of signature or date on it, it is always copyrighted! They put signatures there for a reason - so people know who did it.

8.) Most images gotten of a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo are copyrighted. Links usually lead to fan-art sites or deviant art.

9.) Just because you received it in a stock-pack doesn't mean its okay to use. In fact, even mods have given out faulty stock-packs before.

Commonly used images and commonly ripped artists, that are not okay to use:
[link=wirestyle.deviantart.com]Wirestyle - Deviant Artist[/link] - Look through his gallery, and I'm sure you'll find some familiar stocks.

[link=garun.deviantart.com]Garun - Deviant Artist[/link] - I'm sure you'll find familiar anime stocks here. Especially this one.

If you can find anymore images, please tell me and I'll post them immediately!

I hope this tips helped anybody who was wondering about this, and if anybody has suggestions for this thread, feel free to drop a PM or post here. :D

Nice tips, Pie :)

I'm sure these will help people that might not be sure if their image is okay to use.

Good guide :)

Another thing to add is that practically 75% of all pictures on Google or Yahoo are copyrighted. And also any ones on deviant-art are probaly under a copy-right unless it states that it can be used.

I already covered devart to some extent, but I forgot to mention Google and Yahoo.

I'll add that signature thing, though, Trip. :D

Thanks, guys!

Not neccessarily. I once saw a banana peel with a very hard-to-read copyright in the bottom left hand corner.

Not really. Google searches the most popular sites and images. Wallpapers are very popular and very copyrighted if uploaded to deviant art or sheezy art. It also searches the most popular sites, one of them being Deviant art. If you Google a popular anime character right now (with the exception of Naruto, because that is the name of the show), I guarantee you that if, you will have deviant art listed at least once.

P.S. I added a few links, Zero Hex. :D
