This is not my tut, i do not own full rights nor anything.

This is for photoshop but you can still learn From it like, render choice, colors, depth, and more...

 Very nice, but I suggest you use link form.
I think the colors part is most helpful, in my opinion at least. Colors always seemed an issue.

PS, but the color mix is awesome! What he tells under that paragraph, OMG! It's a big piece of style.

you can still learn from it thoe ;\
and from what im reading everything you can do in gimp :\
maybe not lighting effect filter
But yea Everything in that Tut can be converted to gimp
