In case you haven't noticed while playing AQW, there is a large number of Spanish speaking players in-game and a few on the forums as well. Unfortunately the forums are geared towards English speaking players, so Spanish speakers can find it extremely difficult to find their way around unless they know a decent bit of english. No es justo. Especially considering there is no online help like the wiki for Spanish players, not having a place to ask questions can be extremely frustrating.

I'm suggesting we add one or two "Foreign Language" sections to AE's Forums so those who can't speak English can still have a place to trade thoughts on and ask questions about AE's wonderful games. Gracias por leer y BattleOn!

 One of the biggest problems that I see with a board where people don't have to use english is that moderating it would be tough. I don't know how many AKs and mods speak fluent spanish, but without enough people who can moderate a board where everyone is speaking spanish it can easily become filled with spam, flaming, and other kinds of rule violations. There would also likely be issues of fairness with users who speak other foreign languages besides spanish. If we have a spanish board, why not a french board or a german board or a chinese board?

Questions can be roughly translated into english using an online translator if a user needs to ask a question but doesn't know english. I don't know how much we can really offer on the forums in terms of support for non-english speaking users though.

Agreed. Simplest solution would be to find out how many AKs speak Spanish or other languages fluently, and if need be, find some.

Though this increases the issue with not enough AK's, I would fully support multiple language boards. On the other hand though, I'm fairly certain that there is a higher percentage of Spanish speakers then strictly German or French ones. It would be no more unfair to have a single Spanish board then it is to have the entire forum in English. It would simply be less unfair to what is probably the largest minority.

The reason I brought this up in the first place is because of someone attempting to do just that on the AQWGD. Trying to to use google translate for a question about if an armor dropped yielded something that was barely understandable. (the Spanish word for what you would call "a drop" got translated as "a loose") Luckily they posted their original Spanish question as well, which I understood and answered. It got locked and deleted by an AK 5 minutes later. If you aren't fluent in English then it would be nearly impossible to know to use the Q&A section as opposed to the general discussion, which is has a link available on the game page. You would look around, see no comprehensible directions on where you should be posting, and simply post in the first place you were taken to.

 Finding someone outside of the current AKs and mods who speaks fluent spanish would be nearly impossible because all communication on these forums is in english. Even if we do figure out that someone is fluent in spanish, they also have to be worthy of promotion to AK status in the first place.

This also raises the question of which boards do we want foreign language duplicates of. After all, there are foreign players of all of the games and not just AQW...so we'd need at least a GD and Q&A board for each of the five games we have meaning ten additional boards per language that have to be moderated and enough AKs who can fluently speak those languages to moderate them.

It would be awesome if we were capable of accommodating everyone who does not speak english on these forums, but it's really just not feasible.

 Even though making versions of the forum in other languages would be undoubtly of great help for a good percentage of players (although they would still have to face the problem of the games themselves being completely in English), it poses the question of where to make the cut. It is plausible that the second highest community in the games and on the boards is the Spanish-speaking one (considering that it is one of the languages more widely spoken, it is a fair assumption), but it would still leave the same problem for the non-English and non-Spanish speaking members and, at the same time, it could create a certain impression of being "left behind" in comparison to those who get a part of the boards in their mother tongue.

Of course, there is always the option of creating more subforums in other languages, but, as I mentioned before, there is the question of where to stop and which ones to choose (not to mention the trouble of finding appropiate AKs). Going for the most obvious choices (Chinese, French, German) may not work so well, since sometimes reality does not match expectations. For instance, on the forum I've noticed a surprisingly large numbers of very active Tagalog-speaking Filipino players, and also an good amount of Finnish people. And I've heard that there is a pretty large community of Brazilian players in AQW. All of them are languages you wouldn't generally think of when planning those sub-forums, but that in reality are largely represented.

(Sorry about the off-topicness, but what would be the Spanish word for "a drop"? The question is really bugging me, because I'm Spanish and I can't figure it out. It is the kind of gaming expression that I'm used to find in English -on games, boards, etc.- but that I don't think that I've ever used in a conversation, as most of my friends are not gamers. This is not the first time that something like this happens to me, and I feel really stupid everytime) :-p
