I see a lot of forums with an iPoints system that allows them to buy stuff like custom ranks and stuff. (Those are Ipb though :l)

I was thinking it would be cool to have it like 1 point and 30,000 points can get you membership in a game

equation:

1pt = 1¢
3 months of AQW = $29.99
30,000 pt = $30.00

that could help families with financial problems who can't afford membership (I'm not one, I'm just caring :P)
Feedback appreciated

Edit: they can also buy stuff like a weapon, AC's, DC's, NG's, ZT's, etc

Sounds like the equivalent of BattleOn Games Points, except also functional on the forums.

@Captain

Oops, I thought I added that :P

each post is 1 point or so UNLESS it's spam. Some greedy people might say "How about 100 points?" but that would defeat the purpose, that's like a $1 3 month membership.

That's 1 of the cons,

pros:
It would bring more members
members may click the adds thus giving AE it's payment.
members awarded for consecutive visiting.

the best part is that you don't HAVE to work. I have this toolbar where I search and get points for prizes on a site. I have to work too remember to search there where as here it's like being payed to live, all you do is visit :)

this can easily be abused..... as far as the membership thing goes i would think that put of the question (AE will lose alot of money), but if you could use the points for other things ilke special wepons/arumors/classes/ect... that would be more possible i'd think

In general I think this Reward System is well thought out and really good idea except I only see one hiccup.
I think this would be the equation:

Key:
P = Post
p = Points
M = 3 Month Membership
D = Days

1p = 1c
1P = 1p
M = $29.99
Therefore:
M = 30,000 x p

30,000p / 100P
= 300D

The first part is the part you've already explained in your first post, the second part is basically saying, you would have to post 100 Times for 300 Days to get to that Reward, so what if 100 is just to big? Say you cut it to 50P per D.
That would be 600D of consectively posting 50 posts per day.
Even that may be considered hard by some, so what if you half it again? 25P per D.
As you can see the pattern would jump up to 1200D consecutively posting 25 posts per day.
1200D is roughly 3 and a half years. Not to be harsh, but I don't think I can see anyone who would be able to do that.

Other than that I love the idea. =)

P.S I assume the 1c is in $US?
A Suggestion I would make is that you don't include the pricing, you just list the iPoints that are needed. Would be insanely cool if there was a Forumite Armor though. =D

Love the idea.
Maybe there could be bonus points awarded to users who are extremely helpful or contribute to the forum.
Say +50p for making a worthwhile guide. A moderator would review it and then add the points to the User's account if they deem it worthy.
That would encourage people to help out more on the forums.

EDIT: Dudu Master: You may be right there, didn't really think of that :(

I don't think "iPoints" should buy Membership/DragonAmulet/StarCaptain/Guardian/WarpGuardian or any special currencies. Although, these could be used to buy in-game items or features, only accessible through this "iPoints" thing. That would keep the main idea of the system, which is attracting more members to the forum, and reward them for posting.

But I think there would be much more spam than there currently is, and that's why I do not support the idea. It's a great one, but spam can't be encouraged.

EDIT: Coldkick: Please forgive me, but I think that would also encourage title-seeking =(

I personally detest this idea. The Q&A forums would get completely overwhelmed. How does one differentiate between multiple good answers and spam? Questions may often be legitimate, but rewarding people for asking them (while not bad in theory) may lead to people randomly asking 'good' questions to boost their count.
Does a few word "Ya i agree, waterblobby r teh best!" post deserve the same amount of points as a well thought out argument in the debate club, or a lengthy narrative in the L&L section?

Also, who determines what is spam? The AKs are very busy as it is, and going through every post individually to determine whether or not to award a point or not seems rather inefficient, especially somewhere like AQW GD.
Removing points after the fact doesn't work, as someone could simply spam, purchase and be home-free.

This system may seem good at first, but the probable arguments over fairness, what is to be determined as "spam", and the inefficiency of the system make me vehemently oppose this.

@Dudu Master
In game items only available through this might work better, but then, you still run into the problems I list above

I see where you coming from, alright, so using the ideas.

1P = 1p
Max # of p = 25/D
Good Game guide = 10p
Spammy post = -5p and no more p's given for that D
30,000p = 3M
1000 AC = 500p
Weapon = 2000p
Armor = 5000p
Helm = 1000p
cape = 1000p
pet = 2000p

Those sound good?

(please notice that each spammy post is -5 points.) The only problem I see with that is people might be afraid to post. But I'm glad that so many people like this idea :)

The more I think about it, the more I agree with Verlyrus and Dudu Master. The idea and thought is good but the consequences that might occur on the forums because of this are not.
If we start having a huge influx of posts trying to gain points, many could be spam, and it would just take a lot longer to review threads to do moderation.

I see. Not sure if you read the above post or if you were posting at that moment. I'll leave this to the mods to decide. Just throwing it out there.

I don't like this either. It reminds me of the "rate your post" system that the forums gave up a while ago. I agree with the flying helikitteh and his grenades of wishdom that thish is a bad idea. :/

No, just no. I detest this idea. If staff deems that a user deserves to have some kind of a memento, they should be awarded directly, not in this manner. I don't even see how this is a good idea. Staff awards custom avatar privilege and titles to those who deserves it and in my opinion, this has been the best reward system on the forum by far. If you want something from the game, just put your effort and participate more on the contest run by AE.

no offense, but this had NOTHING to do with custom avatars, titles, or me wanting something from the game... please don't do that...

I think aNyThInG was talking about this:

Which as you said has nothing to do with the actual Suggestion I think Ice (If I may call you that) was just giving an example, not for those to be the actual rewards.

After seeing what others have posted, I do agree with them. Especially coming from a AQW Background the amount of Spam that this would mean would be a massive Clean Up job for AKs to do 24/7, even with the -5P punishment. All it would really do would encouraging a new type of Power-Gaining Motives called 'iPoint Seeking'. So even though it does reward those who are a positive force within the community, the Cons far outweigh the Pros.

Hm.. would something that the points would be awarded by a staff for something extremly helpful, or certain deserving actions? Not so it would automatically be givin, but so if a Moderator feels a certain user deserves something extra, they could add points to the user profile or such. Sorta like the titles that are givin to users due to their actions, moderators only allow a user that status if they deserve it, so could the point system be like that? It would not cause spam, as a moderator would decide if the user deserves a few extra points.

As for rewards, I got nuttin :( Hope the idea comes out great though, it's a good one!

@Valosity Some users may think that it is favoritism if Staff choose who gets points or not, and that wouldn't work out well.

@Coldkick:
What if the amount of points were seeable to only the user? Although, that may not be possible...
But, as I said, if their like titles. If a user does particularly good on something, then they can be awarded a few. But, there would be a public directory so users know why a user was awarded the points.

Chaos!

Making the points system invisible would still create complications, like a user claiming to other that he received X points to others for Y while he didn't. Even with an invisible point system, that would be unnecessary if we say why the user received the points and even so forumites would still seek to obtain points, which is something we really don't want to happen as Verlyrus pointed out.

In my eyes, this system is interesting, but as said multiple times in this thread, its very existence would turn the forums into a competition, which is the last thing any of us would want.
