Can someone tell me what a signature is?

 A signature is an image that appears bellow your posts when you want it to see: Signature and Avatar Testing for information.
You can have your won signature as long as it goes with the rules of the forums =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules

A signature is an image or message that can be added to every post that you make by checking the radio box at the bottom of the Post/Fast Reply box that says "Add signature". For example, mine is currently "Magic used unnecessarily, even for a good cause, is evil." You may add a signature by going to the Edit Your Profile page and entering a signature in the "Signature" box. Pae's Detailed Sig Guide may help you with understanding signatures and the Signature and Art requests will allow you to request that an image signature be made for you.

Or you can make one yourself with Paint, or Photoshop or gimp!
