I have read the rules about posting behavior and about how "Advertisements" are strictly forbidden but I'm wondering if that is only for signatures :?

Can a forum mod or AK please explain?

I have made several advertisement links in the past but one moderator says it is okay and the other says otherwise.

What it means to say is you can't include advertising for another site/game in your posts, I believe ;)
It also means that by posting an offsite link to advertise a game not of AE's, or a website not of AE's, you are breaking the rules. But, you should be fine if you don't do that :)

I appreciate your response but I'm asking if signature advertisements are acceptable.

Oh, I though you were asking about posting. Sorry! :)
If you advertise something on the forums, Clans/Clubs (Recruitment thread ONLY), a gallery in the CA, or if you advertise a post/suggestion you are fine. Your also fine if you advertise your in-game character. As long as it's related to AE, I believe it's acceptable - and maybe (I'm not very sure at all) other things not related to AE or the forum is allowed too.

If you want to be 100% sure if the advertising you have in your signature is good, try this thread :)

Chaos!

We define "advertisement" as anything in the likes of a "click me!" signature or a link that could be counted as inappropriate and that is not related to AE, though that is not limited only to signatures (as you can see the rule is also present in the "Posting Behavior" section, and not only on the Signatures one). Basically, if you're promoting a link without telling the user what it is, independent of the way you do so, it falls as "advertisement".

However, there are exceptions: A signature with your character name and a link to its character page is not advertisement as you're implying what the person will find upon clicking. Now, a signature that says "Click on me!" and a link to the character page is not allowed, as the person is not aware of what the links contains.

It's not just a matter of what the link in question leads to, but also of how you show it to other forumites, so whatever something is or not an advertisement is up to the interpretation of the staff.

This is incorrect. Advertising anything is not allowed, whether it's to a non-AE site or to a Suggestions thread. That doesn't mean you can never link to another AE forum thread; it does mean that you cannot go around telling others to visit a specific page. This is why recruiting or advertising a clan in a signature will get it deleted. You may state the name of the clan; you may not instruct others to join, or visit the page. The same goes with YouTube links. Including a link to a YouTube video is fine; telling members to watch the video is not.

Advertising anything is not allowed. But advertising is (most of the time) limited to telling other members what to do, or trying to get them to do things. If you keep that in mind, you should be fine.

Just wondering but is advertising for referral links acceptable? How about as long as I state what is the purpose? How about a Youtube video of it and maybe even a warning before clicking the link :?

Referrals or recruitment in any incarnation are not allowed. This is stated directly above no advertising in the Forum Rules on Posting Behavior. Linking to a video that refers elsewhere is also not allowed; we really prefer our forum members aren't bombarded with advertisements or pleadings to join a site or sign up for something so another member can get something. ;)

It might be different if you are friendly with the other member, though if he starts feeling harassed by you asking him to sign up for something, that would also fall under no referrals. However, if you're mentioning something with the intention that random forum members click a link/sign up for a site, etc., odds are it's against the rules.

Nightshade is pleased with the responses to his conundrum. The thread may be locked (;

Locked as requested,
