What happens to Archknights after about a year of serving as one? I am curious because I see some former Archknights having just a "member" title (like me), having no "moderator" icon next to their name in any of the forums, and sometimes, they only have custom titles and nothing else.

 They problably did quit as Archknight, if you know they've been AK's before.
Then their title will get removed *the Archknight title I mean, not the costom title*, but will still have the costom avatar/title as a, let's say a reward :p

If they've been an AK for longer than a year, they might still be AKs. But in a few cases, if they are lucky get a higher position. Mod status as example.

 As far as I know, nothing special happens after 1 year. Due to RL issues or a loss of interest in AE, many AKs do end up quitting. In that case, they go back to being a normal member. Some may prefer to fade into history, and request that their titles and avatars be set to standard ones.

I love how you said that and your name is "The Forgotten! ;D
But Unfortunately as few players get the privilege too turn into AKs even fewer AKs wind up as mods in the end. Should an AK have done their job well (Extremley well!). After said year then they would be considered for promotional status.

AKs leave whenever they wish or whenever they need to, there's nothing special about a year having passed. Because the AKs are in forum groups (this is how "power" is assigned), their titles are automatically defaulted back to "Member" once they're removed from the group upon retiring. The same happens if someone is removed from the Debate Club or Role Players or any other forum group. Former AKs can ask a mod to set a new title for them and can upload custom avatars, but some leave the forums completely or just don't care about a new title/avatar. The same is true for mods, admins, etc.

 Why would a time span matter?
It's not like they get some AK bday or their AK-ship expires. :P
Like the previous people said, they probably couldn't keep on being an AK due to other, more pressing concerns.
