I would like to suggest a sub-forum in AQ where people can go to post their requests for a character rating instead of the Q&A. There are numerous people who ask for ratings and due to the nature of the Q&A forum quite a few threads get pushed down past page 2 and 3 without any responses because they get overshadowed by people asking questions. I understand the reason the rating centres were removed as they gave normal players power over others but adding a sub-forum to AQ for people to post a thread asking for ratings wouldn't be any different than what happens in the Q&A. By doing that it allows players a greater chance of their character rating thread being seen instead of posting twice or three times over before it gets noticed.

Exquisitely pathological

There indeed was a CR&A forum quite a while back that was merged into Q&A ('08 or '09, IIRC). The forum in the end suffered from lack of moderation (The Game and Scakk were really the only ones in there near the end) and active raters, and had to be merged into Q&A to allow more attention for CR&A threads.

I remember them but I was thinking it might better benefit the players to have a seperate section where they can post their requests so that it won't be overshadowed by the Q&A.

great idea, BlackAces! there are alot of unanswered posts in the second page and a Sub-forum would solve that problem.
couldn't agree more!

I just want to add in my two cents here. My forum name use to be The Game and I was the last CR&A AK before the forum merged with Q&A. With that being said, ideally, we wanted another AK around, but in terms of moderation, we were doing very well before I went on my hiatus, which left Scakk as the only moderator in CR&A. In that sense, moderation was an issue, but while I was there in the situation The Forgotten described, moderation was fine. We looked and evaluated every single thread. We might be a tad late to some due to timezones, but we got to all of the threads notwithstanding.

As for the suggestion, I am inclined to agree that it would be beneficial in streamlining the differing nature of requests. Given the nature of AQ Q&A in addition to those several floating topics that consume a few slots on the first page, requests are bound to go unnoticed.

On the other hand, when CR&A was still around, requests in the open forum went unanswered anyways, probably more so than they do now. I actually think that, when AQ Q&A is not pushing these requests down the pages due to various factors, AQ Q&A does a better job of answering said requests since Q&A was always a more mainstream forum in terms of traffic from helpers than CR&A was.

Those are just my observations on the matter. Feel free to take them with a grain of salt.

This is certainly something I've debated in the past. There are most definitely upsides and downsides to creating a sub-forum specifically for CR&A requests. Specialization is in most cases beneficial; a sub-forum would allow those wishing to help and advise others to do so with greater ease without a doubt.

However, as Syr mentioned, the problem of non-responsiveness to character advice threads goes beyond its current incarnation. By furthering the specialization and creating a sub-forum it is entirely possible this problem would only become larger. Added to this, it is much easier for the ArchKnights of the section to moderate one board rather than two. This is not the overriding consideration in my reluctance for a second board, but it does contribute to it. Thirdly, members see a Q&A section and (rightfully so) assume they can ask questions there. I am always reluctant to limit what can be asked in the Q&A section (without a very good reason) and I tend to think creating a sub-forum with the intention of fixing something that may instead be exacerbated by the new structure isn't enough of one.

Of course, I may miss things and the problem is greater than I believe it is. Or, since I am aware there are threads that do go unanswered, I'd love to see alternative suggestions. I'm just a bit skeptical a sub-forum is the way to go.

I see well that's fine I just thought I'd put it out there and see what others thought I can see introducing a sub-forum creating a bigger problem so I guess this can be locked then I'll see if I can come with with another alternative that might be better.

Thanks for the responses.

In all honesty I'd like to keep the thread open unless you're personally opposed to it; others may have their own input and I'd like to hear it. It would be appreciated if you'd be alright leaving the thread unlocked. :) ~Everest

Fair enough disregard the earlier comment :D.

Edit: Not sure if anyone will see this :P but I did come up with a somewhat grey solution, although I will admit it may also create more problems. In the Q&A section there are threads for FAQ's so why not have a CR&A FAQ where people go and ask for a rating although I do see this could create a lot of confusion when people post requests and others on top of them and then the responses and discussion between players could get iffy. But since the aforementioned idea would be way too complicated a sort of general CR&A FAQ could be helpful sort of like the guides but a real short version with some generic tips for each build and that way people may not need to ask for a rating and could find the info in there. Although that's what the guides are for and this probably impedes on their territory but I've noticed quite a few people don't read them so having a FAQ of sorts for this could help and directing them to the Guides could increase the amount of people reading them.

Upon further thought a CR&A FAQ could also be beneficial as people who ask questions in the Q&A such as "Would this item be good for me?" "What would be better for me X or Y?"(assuming they aren't after numbers). Questions along those lines and the like could go into that thread and produce less cluster in the Q&A.

Discussed in PM; locked. Another may remake this thread with alternative suggestions if he or she would like. :) ~Everest
