PM and some other stuff have word limit. Is it possible to make the "Preview" to show how many words did you typed?

MS Word, Pages, TextEdit, et al wave. We have programs that can do word counting for a reason. :P

Well what we're talking about here is a simple javascript code that counts the amount of text inputted into the textbox. Such codes already exist for other forum software, ZetaBoards, InvisionFree, vBulletin etc. and editting them to fit this forum requires relatively little effort in comparison to other more extreme requests. Bear in mind not everyone has a document publishing program.

Unfortunatly I don't know how to use other program, especially on Win 7 where everything is so weird. I used to use Word 2000 (or what where near that).
Not to mentio, I have to copy them, open the program which on net book might take a while.
Also it kinda annoy me when I PM/post then realize that I had too much words and have to try to cut them off into different PM/post.
And I think it could be helpful for people to post from out side of computer maybe? (not likely at all though)

@James Lu: I'm under the impression that all systems come with Word or some other text editing software with the capacity to determine the length of a passage. Correct me if I'm wrong. This suggestion is certainly not unreasonable (I like it, for that matter), but it generates little net benefit ... as I will argue below.

@Katz and Suggestion: The length limit on posts and PMs is extremely large (couple of thousand for PMs and in the range of tens of thousands for posts). No normal post is going to come anywhere near that (I haven't written a PM that's reached that length yet, either). In the case of guides, indexes, compilations and other long posts, one is likely to write and maintain them in the form of a text document saved to your harddrive, where you'll be able to see its length and make necessary organizational changes, anyway.

I hit is like over 10 times (*cough* so many freaky projects) but yeah it's not like a huge suggestion. But if the script can be easily added it won't be wasted at all :) Just something forum coder might want to look at if it's easy to put in

@The Forgotten: True, however, a lot of new computers don't come with a document publisher, ie. Word, and Notepad lacks word counting. However, this accounts for probably 0.0001% of all people using computers. The suggestion is, I agree, a triviality.

For anyone who is struggling with the limit, there is always this site.

I wonder if it is possible to code a text warning into the PM screen about the limit and then linking to that website. It'd be easier to do that since coding a word/character counter is a bit strenuous.

The Forgotten: Incorrect. I don't have a decent word processer. I use Win Vista without Office Product key. My msWorks Word processor has issues pasting, keeps crashing repetetively.

Err ... how is my statement incorrect? Your anecdote invalidates nothing of my argument that the vast majority of computers possess word processor(s). Moreover, Word is perfectly sufficient as a word processor (and if you do run into problems with that, the Javascript word counter remedies this problem easily).
