10 page locks, and not making a new thread till the old is locked. Expansion of the page limit.

Why is it that we lock threads at 10 pages? Then we also say don't make a new one till the old is locked.

But you KNOW it's going to be locked, so anything posted in the last one then has to be said once again in the new one to be continued on the point case.

Now not all topics run 10 pages but some do, and the biggest place I'm talking of example where this is would be the OOC.


We have game based threads that have spun in the past up to 100+ Versions of the thread as they like to keep track.

What is stopping us or the forums them selves from having a higher number of pages?, We see it in war threads where it's a 30 page lock.


Why not have threads that become a reoccurring matter be able to be looked at or something along the lines of inspected or what ever to see if the page number lock could be boosted up past 10, OR let them just have one universal thread that doesn't lock. Now the 2nd of the ideals i can get some issue with it due to rule breaking and so forth. But if it were a 30 page lock i don't see the harm in this.

 The reason most threads are locked at ten pages is to deter said thread from degenerating into off-topic chatter. If you press the restart button every ten pages, it makes it easier to refocus on the topic at hand. Tagged threads are locked at thirty pages and, since only select threads are tagged, monitoring them becomes easier than if every thread was allowed to reach thirty pages and thus required more monitoring. If we allowed threads to continue on without locking, joining the conversation becomes quite daunting which is the opposite kind of environment these forums set out to foster. In addition, locking threads at a set number of pages allows the thread to become inactive, thus allowing them to be deleted whenever specific forums are set to purge dead threads and effectively clear up forum space.

Exactly but I'm not saying all threads, which is why i said have someone to look over it per-say, such as in the OOC the current pokemon thread is number 98, and we've also had others in the past go past this.

This is the sort of thing i'm bring it up for basically threads that are continuing to go on and on much like a war, If we had More than 10 page locks say 20 it'd be half the amount.
Not all threads should be able to but certain cases might stand out in certain areas that could benefit from an extension of pages.

 The "extension of pages" system already exists as I said with tagged threads. If an AK or moderator deems a thread worthy of being tagged, it can go on for thirty pages until it is locked. Of course, if you feel a certain thread deserves to be tagged, you can always PM an AK for that forum and they will look into the matter.

So anything thing Can be? Because it seems as if we only allow like war threads or main posts about the games to be that long. None the less i'll use this as a refference and ask about a few threads then.

 That seems to be the case. The OOC room and its various subforums have a fair few threads tagged, and it seems to be much more likely to get an unusual thread tagged there than in the game discussion forums, though I can certainly recollect a couple off the top of my head, though both were instances in the past.
