NOTE: This journal exists in a slightly differing universe now. This allows me to have a bit more freedom with the story then before. However, it will still follow the mage Alexander's Journal as closely as possible to the main tale, it just allows for any inconsistences.

Alexander's Journal

Entry 17

Well, I finally arrived at Swordhaven. At the magical academy here I will finally be beginning all the lessons of magic. I'm thinking of specialising in Ice Magic right now, since I have an Ice Mage Staff already, but I guess I will go with whatever I show the most aptitude in. Well, except Fire Obviously.

There are currently two other mages under Braup's Tutage. Warlic's kinda a jerk, but I feel I can put up with him in the name of magic. And If we start to REALLY get on one another's nerves, I mean, we can just go our seperate ways after being taught right? It's just for a few years, that's no time at all to the best Archmages.

But I feel the other apperentice will make it all worth it. Ah, Jannia, I fell in love you the moment we met. I'm thinking of asking her out, but then, it might get in the way of our work if we ended up breaking up or something. I will really need to think about what to do here.

Anyway, gonna stop here. Got to work on these reagents I collected.

Alexander.

Yeah, we kinda got a little carried away...

Warlic butted in and introduced himself first after pushing me aside. I swear that man has a bigger ego then Slugwrath himself. So he butts in to everything I say and claimed that he had collected the reagets himself! I really don't like him. Worse, he likes Jannia too after all!

So Jannia goes off to read some books, as you do, and asks us to find some rare reffernces for her. So we start lifting some books out the air by levitation, and well, we kinda threw every book in the library on the floor. Brump was really MAD...

So now we are waiting outside, hoping we are not ordered to clean up the library. I just KNOW this cannot end well. Heck, we were competitve before Jannia even arrived. How is this going to affect us?

Alexander.

Entry 19

May The Elemental Lords damm Warlic to a palce where he's always in pain!

...Sorry, got a little angry at him. As you well know, I've been afraid of fire ever since...that incident. It's pretty much why I decided to become a Ice Mage in the first place. That way I can learn some kind of moderation, and probably even get rid of it completly.

So what does Warlic do? He makes a portal to a volcano. A VOLCANO! I mean seriously. A volcano. It's pretty much the sum of all my fears put into one. My fear of fire, my fear of being eating by monsters, my fear of fire mosters that eat me... it's the last place I would want to go. Ever. SO we go through it. Never mind the fact that WARLIC CAN MAKE PORTALS USING SOME KIND OF LATENT POWER AND JUST GET US OUT THERE IN A BLINK OF A EYE, Nooooooo, we have to fight through the cave because it's something to do! AND he makes some kind of Fire Imp thing to scare me even worse! I hope he DOES use too much power and explode, then we would be rid of him for good!

On the plus side though, Jannia seems to be ignoring him. I think she must think that that was a bit of a jerk move too. i wonder if she will ever speak up about it. I mean, I quite like her, but all she ever seems to do is think about study.

Alexander.

Also, Im buying a stronger Ice or Water Staff after this incident.

All I was doing was reading. I wasn't even near him or going after Jannia.

Suddenly there was Fire Monster everywhere. I have never been so scared in my life. They were everywhereandtheywereaftermeand- sorry, got a little carried away. I mean, to have your worst fear just appear out of nowhere in mass numbers - nothing could be worse.

But I fought them off in the end. I'm kinda proud of myself really.Or I would have been if I wasn't so damm angry. I know full well who did this and I'm not going to let Warlic get away with it, no matter how powerful he may be!

Entry 21:

Right, that's it. I'm going to get back at Warlic. I will let you know how this turns out.

Entry 22:

Man that was sweet. While looking for some items to prank him with, I found some soap, some Slug Juice and some Green Dye. Oh, the choices were limitless. I could have put soap in his tea, I could have put Green Dye on his Toothpaste. I could have put SLug Juice on all his clothes, I could have put more dye in his Shampoo. In the end, I was about to mess with his spellbook, when I thought "Wait a moment, why stop at ONE Prank?"

Oh, Warlic is going to have a HORRIBLE day tomorrow...

Entry 23:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, this was the best day ever! First of all, Warlic had a shower and dyed his hair bright green. Then the fool did not even bother to inspect his toothbrush. He must have thought I would stop at one. Then he put on all his smelly clothes, and tried to invite Jannia round for tea. Naturaly she did not turn up, so he decided to have some himself. Finally, during the exam he TURNED HIMSELF INTO A CHICKENCOW! Oh man, was this day great. I think I MAY have overdone it though. Well, serves him right. I mean, fire monsters in Swordhaven is FAR worse then all I've done today.

Alexander.

Entry 24:

I am VERY annoyed. I went to all the trouble of making the perfect gift for Jannia. You see, she was looking at these Elemental Roses made from the essennces of elementals, and I decided it would be the perfect for her. So I go get some (having to go up against some fire elementals I may add) Make it, and then go to give it to her... ONLY FOR THAT JERK WARLIC TO TRIP ME UP WITH ICE! And Then he has the guts to challenge me to a duel.

Well, if he wants a wizard duel then a duel he shall have. I remember seeing something that may help me on this matter. Oh, he is going to REGRET taking me on. YOU ARE GOING DOWN WARLIC !

Alexander.

Epilouge: The end of the tale.

(The last Diary entry is written in a different hand on new paper. The previous back of the book is burned beyond repair, but some repairwork has been done to it to add this in.)

I record the final part of this tale for the sake of completion and to show the world what happened after Alexander's last journal entry. People need to know what happened here, for it affects the people of Lore far more then they may suspect.

I found this journal in a burnt house in Swordhaven, the fires that destroyed it faded away long ago. I thought at one point I could feel anger and rage, age old coming out of the walls itself. Needless to say I took the journal and ran.

Having read the entries that were not burned I feared that the Blue mage had not been entirely truthfull when he told me about his actions in the past. I had no choice but to confront him on the matter. I went to his tent as he was eating his breakfast, threw down the book and said "I want the truth. Now."

To his credit, he told me everything he knew.

They met for their duel where none would see what occured. Alex and Warlic fought, with Warlic's superior magic skills wearing Alex down. in desperation he cast an Ice spell unfamilair to the Blue Mage, who deflected it with a spell of his own.

The result was devastating.

The spell backlashed and froze Jannia in crystal that the Blue Mage was unable to break due to not knowing the spell's parameters. Alex himself had been hit with the backlash from the combined Spells and was on fire and in great pain. Warlic, not knowing what to do, did the only thing he could and turned it into a healing fire in an attempt to save his life. Now he was in too much pain and could not die. Surrounded by the very thing he feared, and now the only thing keeping him alive, the person he loved taken from from him, and Warlic having apparently suffered nothing from the incident, Alex went insane and fled, becoming the threat we now know today as Xan.

It was clear Warlic had been affeted too, if not physicly, then mentaly. It was his arrogence that had frozen the woman he cared for and unleashed a horrific threat upon the world. However, he was not alone to blame in this. After all, Alex too rose to the bait. Of course, What would have happened if Warlic had won without incident and his arrogence had not been tempered by this event? Maybe even now we would be fighting the Blue mage, with Alex or Jannia alongside us as we tried to show him the error of his ways. In such a situation as this there are no winners.

Even so, I could not forgive him. He did not ask for such forgiveness either. he seemed to know that what occured was beyond redemption. I left with the book, and even now intend to show it to king Alteon so that he may decide the fate of those involved.

It is my hope that one day we can fix this tragedy. But should you encounter Xan in your travels, you must temper your mercy with Justice, for even if he is a victim here, he is also one of the greatist monsters our world has ever known, and will not show you any of either.

Codename K.
